like stated, Harper missed a 'gift horse'... he could have done it while pounding on the keys and shouting out his "Hey Jude" best!

Yeah cuz you guys who are obsessed with a $90,000 payoff by his chief-of-staff would change your mind about him if he poured ice water on his head.

cuz you guys are obsessed with the payoff figure instead of seeing the bigger picture. In any case, just trying to offer image consultation for someone so "villified" over his robotic-ways.

I'm sure Harpo revels in his Robotic ways. Except when he's playing a mean piano.

I love it! In a thread about a extraordinarily successful charity you guys can't help but trash Harper. Slow Clap!

And of course if he did do it, they would be trashing him for wasting time that could be spent on more important things.

As someone that cares about the environment, democracy and social issues, scandals or not, I'm probably not voting CPC any time soon. However, I can still comment on the PM and his image. Similarly, I will probably never become a Belieber, but I can still comment on his actions, hair and stupid looking pants.

Winning!

That one was great. I'm sure most celebs also donated to the cause, but I like the fact that Sheen emphasized the donation aspect early on.

I thought it was interesting on how he called out the Two and a Half Men group. Do you think he's still a little jaded from that?

Yeah, I think so.

Leonardo Dicaprio is in northern Alberta filming an environmental documentary. He accepted the ice bucket challenge with one of the chiefs. He also challenged Harper. Hmmm, wonder if Harper will accept.

Hey if Harper goes for it I'll happily donate, especially if I can be the guy with the bucket.

II can hardly wait for Leonardos expert scientific commentary on our environment and economy.

I believe his private jet delivering special organic food just flew over my house on an emergency flight to Fort McMurray.

Fortunately, the science is settled on this and Leo just has to read it and spread the word.

When I last checked, the CEO of ALS was up around a $400,000 annual salary!

Lots of money going to the vague description of education and helping people.

Meanwhile less than 30% on actual "research"

I wonder how much the CEO will rack in next year?

I'm sure he's grateful for all the "VOLUNTEERS" to pitch in and help solidify his annual salary in the name of helping the disadvantaged.

But I guess that's not really taking advantage of people who are suffering if you don't recognize it.

Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

per the publicly disclosed 2013 tax return: Jane H. Gilbert – President and CEO – $339,475.00 ... quite reasonable in comparative terms. In total, 7% of the budget goes to administration/salary. What you disparagingly call 'vague' is available in detail... if you were actually inclined to do some real/legitimate review. The ALS Association is favourably reviewed by the assortment of outlets that monitor non-profits - check it out, hey! But good on ya for moving your a-hole status update into prime time!

Let's compare the 27% spent on ALS research to what is spent on cancer;

Here’s How the American Cancer Society Spent the Donation Money

Overall, 72% of the American Cancer Society resources go to cancer research, patient support, prevention information and education, and detection and treatment. The remaining 28% of resources are spent on management compensation and general infrastructure, and fundraising expenses.

Resources allocated to Program Services include:

• $160 million spent on cancer research

• $304 million spent on patient support

• $153 million spent on prevention information/education

• $97 million spent on detection and treatment

Resources allocated to Supporting Services include:

• $59 million spent on Management and General Expenses

• $218 million spent on Fundraising Expenses

If we do the math, 16% is spent on cancer research compared to 27% for ALS.

Leonardo knows more about the environment than probably all of us combined on this board, although that would not be hard to achieve!

Here are some recent philanthropic efforts from his foundation:

Protecting Tigers from Extinction: a conservation effort in Nepal to protect critical tiger habitat led by World Wildlife Fund in collaboration with local communities, and the Nepali government

Protecting Our Oceans: an international funders collaborative called “Oceans 5” dedicated to stopping overfishing and establishing marine reserves, the two highest ecological priorities identified by scientists

Saving Sharks: a successful effort of six organizations from five different countries to secure international trade restrictions for five species of threatened sharks at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)

Protecting Antarctica: a grant for the Antarctic Ocean Alliance, a coalition of over a dozen organizations working on five continents to secure the largest network of marine reserves on the planet

Providing Access to Clean Water: a grant to Concern Worldwide, providing 430,000 people in Tanzania, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Darfur with sustainable access to clean water

Fortunately, the science is settled on this and Leo just has to read it and spread the word.

Yes, I am sure the emphasis will be on the truth, the whole truth and Professor Leo will provide balanced commentary.

And now he undertakes a project to protect us from resource revenues in our own country.

I'll send his foundation a bill for future medical procedures.

And I am sure you are nervous about what Leo will have to say about our beautiful northern Alberta province. Personally, I am looking forward to it.

If you'd like an interesting take on the cancer fundraising industry check out the NFB documentary Pink Ribbons Inc. It is not gentle on the industry executives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Ribbons,_Inc.
