Mighty AC Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 What would be your dream 3 song set list by any band, dead or alive? I've had the chance to see many of my favourite bands, perform many of my favourite songs live so I'm going to go with a guy that was before my time. One of my top five, dream three song sets would be Bob Marley and the Wailers, in Jamaica playing "No Woman No Cry", "Redemption Song" and "Buffalo Soldier" Quote "Our lives begin to end the day we stay silent about the things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jr"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities" - Voltaire

One of my top five, dream three song sets would be Bob Marley and the Wailers, in Jamaica playing "No Woman No Cry", "Redemption Song" and "Buffalo Soldier" This is a tough question. I have seen many bands over the years so I'm going to suggest my 3 band list: Led Zepplin SuperTramp David Bowie (Annie Lennox opened for him!) It doesn't get any better than that. For Canadian musicians, I'll go with ( I added another): Bruce Cockburn (Hamilton Folk Festival) Blue Rodeo (London, Ontario, their living room set on stage, couches and lamps, very cool) Gordon Lightfoot (Massey Hall, of course!) Joni Mitchell (she opened for Bob Dylan in Toronto) Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
GostHacked Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Prince - Kiss, Sexy MF, and Automatic. I had seen him a couple years ago, after being a fan for most of my life. It was an incredible show. My other fave is Rush, and well, pick any three of their songs The band I really would like to see if they tour again would be Tears for Fears. The songs would be, Woman in Chains (Oleta Adams has one great voice), Elemental, Love is God's Mistake. After the two broke up, Orzibal continued with the band name and produced two albums, Elemental and Raoul And the Kings of Spain, both great and both are very different from past material. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Prince - Ahh, Prince, the artist formerly known as Prince! Yes, he would be incredible to see. I have not seen him live. Mighty AC Posted August 5, 2014 Author Report Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) This is a tough question. I have seen many bands over the years so I'm going to suggest my 3 band list: Led Zepplin Zeppelin was in the running for my fantasy set list choice too. What three songs would you pick? It's hard to narrow down the list to just 3 but this would be mine: Over the hills and far away, Kashmir, Immigrant song. I think it's worth noting that I had 6 different songs listed before deciding on these 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bD9t44JUD4 Many times I've wondered how much there is to know... My favourite is 'whole lotta love', then I think Kashmir and 'Heartbreaker'. However, the last two songs could change next week. But for sure, my all time fav is 'whole lotta love'. Mighty AC Posted August 5, 2014 Author Report Posted August 5, 2014 I have a good friend that sings the world's worst, but most entertaining karaoke version of "Whole Lotta Love". He has all the energy and passion of Plant, but is absolutely tone deaf. We cheer like he's a rock star and he keeps going up to make an ass of self...so it's a win for everyone involved. Well except for maybe my friend and the rest of the bar patrons. kimmy Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 What would be your dream 3 song set list by any band, dead or alive? It's hard to choose, but I have been on kind of a southern rock kick lately, so I think my choice might be original-vintage Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hard to narrow it down to 3 songs, but they would open up with something like Call Me The Breeze or Things Goin' On, and finish with Simple Man and Free Bird. Free Bird isn't even really one of my favorite Skynyrd songs, but to see the guitar jam performed live would be amazing. On a completely different note, Iron Maiden performing Powerslave, Number of the Beast, and Run To The Hills would probably cause my brain to melt from pure epicness. Then there's Pink Floyd... listening to the "live" disc of the Ummagumma record gives an idea how incredible it might have been to see them live in a small venue before they hit it big... -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

BubberMiley Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Since I would be happy if I never heard "Three Little BIrds" or "No Woman No Cry" ever again, if I had to choose a Bob Marley set list, it would be Simmer Down Don't Rock My Boart Mr. Brown But my ultimate set list would be the Duke Ellington orchestra performing Black and Tan Fantasy East St. Louis Toodle-oo Lazy Rhapsody Alternately, they could do The Blues I Love to Sing (with Adelaide Hall) Creole Love Call Rockin' in Rhythm Anything would be good though. If it were the Beatles, I would pick You're Gonna Lose that Girl I'm Only Sleeping Hey Bulldog and apologize to Paul for not liking his songs as much. The superior "Don't Rock My Boat" was the title of the original Wailers version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP0S2J4_Q94 And the 1960s Jamaican production values of Simmer Down are part of what make it great. You can't duplicate that sound with the fancy new technology. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

BubberMiley Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 That's the same lyrics as Satisfy my Soul. It's the same song, but the original version was called "Don't Rock My Boat" on the 1971 Soul Revolution album. But I've never heard any ska recorded in modern studios that has nearly the rough, gutbucket quality of original Jamaican ska. I don't see how they would say its a ripoff of American 50s music, in that it sounds more like calypso than rock and roll. Maybe they meant 1950s jazz, as a lot of ska players were former jazz musicians, but I don't know of any American music from that time that put the beat on the two and the four, which is what defines ska. Shady Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Alice In Chains: 1. Again. 2. Man In The Box. 3. It Ain't Like That. Or Guns N' Roses. 1. It's So Easy. 2. Sweet Child Of MIne. 3. Don't Cry. Quote
Mighty AC Posted August 6, 2014 Author Report Posted August 6, 2014 Well done Shady! I have seen both bands live...I think Welcome to the Jungle would have to be in my GnR three. It was the song that hooked me as a wee lad and I still love it. On a completely different note, Iron Maiden performing Powerslave, Number of the Beast, and Run To The Hills would probably cause my brain to melt from pure epicness. Maiden?! Outstanding choice. I'm listening to Run To The Hills right now because of that post.
