IF this was at my place, I'd be charged with contributing to a minor. And if the girl dies, them murder charges or something similar. Harper and family are not above the law, and they are representatives of our country while Harper is PM. This should be investigated. Harper is a public employee living in a residence paid for by taxpayers.

Private matter? I'd like to be able to claim that if something like this was to happen to me.

Bang on GH!

Damn straight you'd be charged! I believe the fine is up to $200 000! ( but not sure because I only heard on facebook)

Either way, it's against the law!

What we are witnessing is called conservative entitlement!

The conservatives feel that they are entitled to break the law whenever they choose. And if they do, it's none of our business?!?!?!?!?

I predict that we aren't going to be hearing much anymore about Harper's perfect little "white picket fence" family anymore.

If Harper tries to parade around his family, like he often done in conservative adds, people are going to be reminded that an ambulance has to be called to their tax payer funded house to rush a teenager to hospital after the people in that house let her drink underage and way to much to the point that she could have died!

Its not against the law for minors to drink in your house.

It is if the Harpers provided it , and since Conservatives are law and order folks, or at least they portray themselves as such, well......where did the booze come from ?

As an aside, the Harpers could well be sued for the girls illness

Ya I think a link to the actual law would be helpful in clarifying what the exact rules are.

I think you are right, but I am not sure as to the amount being consumed. After all, this teen was rushed to the hospital or she could have died. And I think the law is only meant to sneak around family traditions and religious purposes. Not to allow under age people to come close to the brink of death!

I agree with a possible lawsuit.

Not to put too fine a point on it but.....was there a link I missed when someone posted...

No I don't think anyone here has posted a link, unless I missed it to?

But I still think minors can drink in a residence but as you stated there are rules governing this.

Here's a comment from one of the links:

The Prime Minister’s Office refused to say whether Stephen or Laureen Harper was present during the party. There was nothing in Mr. Harper’s official itinerary that showed him to be out of town over the weekend.

Now I'd like to know is Steven or Laureen Harper were actually present.

As far as I'm concerned, unless they come out and so no, then I will assume that they were at their son's birthday party!

I too think they were at the party and thank goodness for that! Who do you think made the call that the gal had to go to the hospital. If these kids had of gone out to a bar or somewhere else, they most likely would have been too intoxicated to get her the help she needed. This is precisely why Harper opted to have the party at their place. I think he chose the lesser of two evils.

Either way it's irresponsible of Harper to hold a drinking party for people under 19. That is a jail-able offense. As PM he should know better (if this is the case).

Who was the girl? How did she get there? Who vetted her? Not just anyone can show up, and Harper's son would not be able to invite just anyone without being screened before hand.

Notice how this story quickly got buried in the media.

I think it's safe to say that if it makes the front page, it's in no way "buried". If it didn't stay there, it's because there's nothing more to be said and the opposition parties do not want to exploit an embarrassing personal - but irrelevant - situation.

If the Liberals and NDP were to pursue it then it would be back on the front page.

What? Opposition parties do not want to exploit this personal embarrassing situation? I'll call bull on that.

Let's go with Jack Layton and a so called happy ending. Which was beat to death.

Pretty pathetic rush to judgement here given no one actually knows if the girl got drunk at the party or arrived in that condition. Pre-drinking appears to be a growing trend among the younger set, and it's unlikely there was a lot of hard liquor being openly served given Ben is only 18 and the mindset of his parents. Not to mention even if the parents weren't there it's not like there wouldn't be servants and cops around. Not the sort of place a bunch of kids would be throwing a wild, drunken party at, in other words.

How does a drunk girl get access to the PMs grounds? And the media is not reporting on this matter anymore.

She gets invited.... What, you think the mounties have orders to give everyone a breath test before letting them through?

Well, I haven't seen any statements from them on this. Have you ?

No I have not. And that is kind of an issue. No one is really taking this to task.

How does a drunk girl show up on the grounds of the PM's residence? Why was she there? It's not a personal matter when the residence he lives in is paid for by us taxpayers. I still think something is fishy here.

They would have gotten a pat down at the least. You just don't let anyone on to the grounds. And if the guards thought she was drunk, did they let her in or were they the ones who called the medics in?

Why would you not let anyone onto the grounds if you thought they were drunk? I don't think their job is to keep away invited drunks. This is, despite being an official residence, the home of the PM's family. There has to be a recognition of that. They might well have informed some adult in charge (the PM or maybe his butler or whatever) that one of the persons they passed through was really drunk, though, and left it for them to decide what to do about it.

My initial thinking was that there is somewhere between nothing and almost-nothing to this story. I see I'm not alone.

It's "normal" to be rushed to the hospital via EMS for alcohol poisoning??????

It's normal for the EMS to be called to 24 Sussex to save a teen from alcohol poisoning?????

It's normal for a teen to be served alcohol to the point where her life is in danger at the Prime Ministers house?????

I don't think you understand what happened!

I can clearly see why Rob Ford is still so popular!

Man you must had lived a very protected life as a kid. A kid got drunk and got sick ,who cares. If you are really concerned, what happens if trudeau wins, then there will be a cloud of smoke over top 24 sussex. I was drinking in quebec bars at a younger age then that, and I puked also.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Why was a drunk 18 year old girl at the residence of the PM? And why did she require medical attention? How did she get there? Was she invited?

Serious red flags going up here.
