oh snap! Another of my sock-puppets has been revealed!

"We define "trolling" as a message that serves no constructive purpose and is likely to cause offence or arguments".

But then moderate people who take offence or argue, instead of moderating the trolling.

quit your whining and accept your suspension lumps with some modicum of humility! Whether you agree with facilitator MLW member, Michael Hardner, or not, he at least... in my case, will typically write an accompanying PM to describe his actions.

That has no been my experience, but then your politics are closer to his.

MLW member waldo and Mike hardner work together. They present an illusion, but waldo whines and complains and mike reacts to waldo's wishes. It's caused this forum to decline.

Thankful to have become a free thinker.

I'm pretty sure MH has suspended waldo more times than he's suspended you.

Oh, so you're also a member of the echo chamber brigade.

Thankful to have become a free thinker.

Because I can count? Is that what it takes to be a member?

How do you know how often waldo has been suspended?

Somebody doesn't know what prolific means.

So you are saying there are many waldos?

Uh, no. A prolific writer is one that is very productive. Just so you know.

Followed up with prolific silence when banned. I guess some are just not that observant.

The only attraction of this site is the postings, and deletions diminish the number of postings. By how much isn't known since they won't tell us how often they suspend people. Often, apparently, since they can't even spare the time to explain to those they suspend why they're being suspended.

The moderators need to lose their fixation on suspensions as a lazy means of moderation. If a post is improper, delete it.

Oh, but they say they have no time for that. But they can't recruit more moderators because none of the rest of us are up to their magisterial wisdom.

I don't think I agree. If someone is repeatedly making improper posts, then deleting the posts is not sufficient.

Why would someone repeatedly make improper posts if they kept getting deleted? How many people do you think post material that they know at the time will get them suspended? I know that nothing I've ever posted which got me suspended was done with the thought it was against the rules. Granted, the rules keep shifting back and forth, but when, for example I insulted the native council of a reserve or, or Quebec, or a previous RCMP commissioner, I didn't think those words would get me suspended. I still don't know what words got me suspended the last time because they won't say.

Too busy, I guess.

Maybe, but now we have a moderator who has made any direct or indirect reference to how the forum is being moderated as a "thread drift" offense worthy of suspension, even as the moderator does the same. Responding to another member is now actionable if the moderator feels his "authoratay" is being challenged, regardless of the post's content.

Thread drift posts should just be deleted, including any by a moderator.

yes - agreed! Would you accept that forms of purposeful thread drift/derail can also be interpreted as trolling? Perhaps the report and ignore trolling directive should be re-purposed with a subset that agrees with your suggestion that those (trolling) drift/derail posts simply be deleted: Report Drift/Derail / Delete Drift/Derail... yes?

Having some people on the same side as me makes me want to reconsider my position and thank the moderators for their efforts...

If I was participating on a voluntary public access bulletin board which did not satisfy my criteria for participation then I would stop participating and find a board which satisfies my needs and wants. I have and continue to do so. I certainly would not try to make changes.

If you do not like the rules then find another game. There are thousands out there but not too many with the longevity of this site - perhaps it is the rules and the application of such that have resulted in the longevity.

The Indispensable Man

(by Saxon White Kessinger)

Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego 's in bloom;
Sometime when you take it for granted,
You're the best qualified in the room:

Sometime when you feel that your going,
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions,
And see how they humble your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining,
Is a measure of how much you'll be missed.

You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop, and you'll find that in no time,
It looks quite the same as before.

The moral of this quaint example,
Is to do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

I advocate for a ban if the poster violates or gets suspended X amount of times. I've been advocating for outright bans for some time. Which would create less work for the moderators.
