On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 You are dodging the question....do Canadians have more or less domestic based choices for broadcast and cable news channels ? No I think you misspoke the question, I think you meant to say "corporate controlled choices" and the answer would be no, because we tend not to like them. We have sun news, but it has been dubbed fox news north and has it's own following, but then so does Jerry Springer. Quote

We have sun news, but it has been dubbed fox news north and has it's own following, but then so does Jerry Springer. So the answer is clear...Canadians have less domestically produced broadcast and cable news choices. Fox News is part of that greater choice. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
WestCoastRunner Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 I don't get your angle bush. However, I cringe to try and understand it and I cringe to figure out why you are here on this board? Do you like canadians? Do you have a hidden agenda? I get that I am new but I don't see a positive benefit for you being here and if I am being outspoken, so be it. I will withdraw my membership Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 ...and when you are in Afghanistan at American bases eating American breakfast. The metaphor is perfect. Americans have more domestic cable and broadcast news choices than do Canadians, and Fox News Channel is part of that diverse menu. I don't see any metaphor there, unless you are saying because I was contracted by the USAF to help out their operation that I'm supposed to accept fox news? Quote

You said watching Fox wasn't your choice, but it was your choice to accept the contract. Did you think Americans would be watching CBC News in Afghanistan ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 So the answer is clear...Canadians have less domestically produced broadcast and cable news choices. Fox News is part of that greater choice. Well the answer should be obvious, we have around a tenth of the population so of course we have less. We just have better. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Well the answer should be obvious, we have around a tenth of the population so of course we have less. We just have better. I agree...you have better state financed and controlled news media, but far less domestically produced choice and diversity of opinion. Sad.... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 You said watching Fox wasn't your choice, but it was your choice to accept the contract. Did you think Americans would be watching CBC News in Afghanistan ? Well it wasn't available, but had they, they might not have been subjected to what was an obvious conflict of interest. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Well it wasn't available, but had they, they might not have been subjected to what was an obvious conflict of interest. And why wasn't it available ? Why doesn't the CBC have as large an international audience as Fox News ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Well it wasn't available, but had they, they might not have been subjected to what was an obvious conflict of interest. Once again. listen to CBC, you will see it is anything but state controlled. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 And why wasn't it available ? Why doesn't the CBC have as large an international audience as Fox News ? Because it doesn't have the corporate funding and control that biases the news and tries to sell you widgets ad nauseam every 5 minutes. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Because it doesn't have the corporate funding and control that biases the news and tries to sell you widgets ad nauseam every 5 minutes. So because of limited state financing, the CBC does not offer as much choice and diversity of opinion. Got it.....Fox News Channel is seen in many countries. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 But all I had to do was fire up my laptop, and there I was, unbiased news, no commercials, and no blatant nepotism. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) But all I had to do was fire up my laptop, and there I was, unbiased news, no commercials, and no blatant nepotism. Every CBC News stream I have watched online comes with a commercial. Busted. Edited February 12, 2014 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 So because of limited state financing, the CBC does not offer as much choice and diversity of opinion. Got it.....Fox News Channel is seen in many countries. No, because it is state financed it is forced to have diversity. Because Fox is in the pockets of shareholders, it has a narrow agenda, which is quite obvious to most listeners. Quote

Because Fox is in the pockets of shareholders, it has a narrow agenda, which is quite obvious to most listeners. But Americans have more choices beyond Fox News, already established above. Canadians have less Canadian choices. It is unclear to me how less choice for Americans would be better than more choice for Americans. Perhaps I am not thinking like a CBC indoctrinated Canadian ? On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Every CBC News stream I have watched online comes with a commercial. Busted. Not busted at all. I said previously cbc is partially funded by taxpayer, it also has commercials (on TV) I am more of a radio fan and CBC radio ! has absolutely no commercials. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 But Americans have more choices beyond Fox News, already established above. Canadians have less Canadian choices. bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Not sure why Fox news channel would be so welcoming in other countries? They are perhaps being led down the garden path. Markets say otherwise....ad revenue says otherwise....choice says otherwise. More choice is better than less choice, which is really the purpose of this long exercise in logic. That's why I am here. It is unclear to me how less choice for Americans would be better than more choice for Americans. Perhaps I am not thinking like a CBC indoctrinated Canadian ? No, you are talking like a commercial indoctrinated American. As I've already stated, we have all the choices you have, we just make better ones it seems. i.e. we appreciate diversity Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 No, you are talking like a commercial indoctrinated American. As I've already stated, we have all the choices you have, we just make better ones it seems. i.e. we appreciate diversity But that is not all domestically produced content....the choices you have are largely American and supported by advertisers. Americans have more choice for domestically produced content. Don't you guys make a big fuss about "Canadian content", CRTC rules, blah, blah blah ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 I agree...you have better state financed and controlled news media, but far less domestically produced choice and diversity of opinion. Sad.... Well what is sad, and definitely a detriment to this discussion is you keep on insisting cbc is government controlled. The very mandate the CBC was originally formed under prevents that.
