You had also been caught up in something else about Quebec and language laws for dogs. Since you are not from the area, you may have taken it at face value even though it was reported in a credible news site.

Yeah, It WAS reported in a credible news site. It did run in the MSM. What was I supposed to do - call Montreal?

This was NOT reported in a credible news site.

The difference there is that this straight-to-gay program is not as detrimental to people as a war based on complete fabrications.

 The issue isn't how detrimental it is.

Another bit of unintentional satire was the pilots names for the Asiana crash in California. It was at least obvious to me that 'Ho Le Fuk' was not the pilots real name. But the station ran with it and without question.

The station did NOT run it without question. They called the National Transportation Safety Board for confirmation, and the intern who answered the phone confirmed the names.

So what, exactly, is the point you are trying to make?

Common sense would prevail that dogs or any animal at all does need language laws.

This was NOT reported in a credible news site.

Can you clear something up? Was it or was it NOT reported in a credible news source?

The station did NOT run it without question. They called the National Transportation Safety Board for confirmation, and the intern who answered the phone confirmed the names.

The intern was the cause of the blunder. Again common sense would tell someone that 'Ho Le Fuk' was not the correct name. If someone handed those names to me, I would have to question how things are validated.

The point I am trying to make is people are f'n stupid and will believe ANYTHING that is put in front of them. Satire or not. Swallow it all without question and without critical thought.

Critical thought and common sense would call out the language laws for dogs.

You actually believed there would be a language law period for animals?

Critical thought and common sense would call out the fake names of the Asiana pilots.

You mean you actually believed that those were the real names? Really?

So maybe this issue is common sense and critical thought.

It was reported in the MSM. Do you not get that? Here's a newsflash. Laws and "common sense" do not always go hand in hand.

Can you clear something up? Was it or was it NOT reported in a credible news source?

I don't know. You tell me. Is it possible to clear it up for you or not?

The intern was the cause of the blunder. Again common sense would tell someone that 'Ho Le Fuk' was not the correct name. If someone handed those names to me, I would have to question how things are validated.

That's because you have perfect hindsight 20/20 vision, eh? But here's the thing. You made a false statement. You said "the station ran with it and without question," and that's not true. They did question it. They in fact called the National Transportation Safety Board for confirmation .

The point I am trying to make is people are f'n stupid and will believe ANYTHING that is put in front of them. Satire or not. Swallow it all without question and without critical thought.

Some people, yes. Which was my point. Thanks for confirming. It doesn't have to be "believable" or "possible." Which has been my point all along - the fact that a bunch of people on the social media network believed this is not evidence that it's possible.

Critical thought and common sense would call out the language laws for dogs.

You actually believed there would be a language law period for animals?

I can point out several laws on the books that defy "common sense." Try to wrap your head around that. It was reported in the MSM. To try to sit in judgement and say it's ridiculous to believe something that was reported in the MSM because it "doesn't make sense" makes me wonder if you actually think all of the realities in the world "make sense."

Critical thought and common sense would call out the fake names of the Asiana pilots.

You mean you actually believed that those were the real names? Really?

I wasn't in the position to believe or not believe them. That's not the point. The point is that you made a false claim. The station didn't run the names "without question." They called for confirmation.

So maybe this issue is common sense and critical thought.

No. The issue is running with something, believing something, without making any attempt to confirm it. That's all that had to be done in this instance.

To pick and choose what to believe or not believe in the news "based on common sense" would be to disbelieve a lot of truths. You do get that, right? <_< It would also be a completely different issue from this one. Which is believing something without confirming it. And then running with it as if it's some sort of proof of reality.

That much is quite obvious. And it also shows that you are lacking in that department of 'common sense'. This is not an insult, this is your reality, unfortunately.

I don't know. You tell me. Is it possible to clear it up for you or not?

Your two statements conflict with each other. Hard to know what you are saying when you say YES and NO at the same time.

That's because you have perfect hindsight 20/20 vision, eh? But here's the thing. You made a false statement. You said "the station ran with it and without question," and that's not true. They did question it. They in fact called the National Transportation Safety Board for confirmation .

Oh come on. As soon as those names came on the screen, I knew someone was going to get in a lot of trouble for it. The person was an INTERN and should have done a better job.

Ho Le Fuk -- did not tip you off that the names might be fake?

Sum Ting Wong -- two out of two, wow they really can't have those names right, can they?

We To Lo -- well this HAS to be a joke, no wait, the INTERN said it was all good, right?

Bang Ting Ow -- so not a joke? Really? I'll still call bull on it.

Even the reporters when reading the names, their expressions clearly indicated that they did not believe that these were the names.

I wasn't in the position to believe or not believe them. That's not the point.

That is part of the point where common sense needs to kick in.

The point is that you made a false claim. The station didn't run the names "without question." They called for confirmation.

If this is how news agencies vet their information, we are really screwed. My claim stands as that the information was not vetted. An Intern? One would rely on an INTERN for this information?

No. The issue is running with something, believing something, without making any attempt to confirm it. That's all that had to be done in this instance.

The problem is that a lot of this information is simply not vetted. So the issue is how news organizations vet their information. Part of the reason I keep saying investigative journalism is DEAD. If stories like this can get on the air, then how much bullsh*t are we fed on a daily basis?

To pick and choose what to believe or not believe in the news "based on common sense" would be to disbelieve a lot of truths.

Yes, once common sense is used as much as it can be, you will see many many lies within the MSM. And you will also see how the 'vetted' information is bull. Someone is lying to you, but the way the articles are written allow ones mind to reconcile conflicting stances to make them the same stance.

I know nothing of the Arizona Republic or the two people in the video. They could be the opposite side of the Fox News coin for all I know.

The Arizona Republic is over 120 years old. It's the largest newspaper in Arizona, and the 16th largest newspaper in all of the United States. For somebody who considers the Wacky News desk at Yahoo.com to be "mainstream media", the Arizona Republic should meet your high standards.

Again. My point is, if things are as bad as everyone is saying they are in Arizona, he wouldn't have had to make anything up. I agree that most of the time satire is based on reality, but I don't see what the reality is here.

The reality is that Arizona's recent politics have been rife with right-wing extremism that makes an endorsement of "gay conversion therapy" seem like something they could do.

That's what made the Sarah Palin skits on Saturday Night Live so funny. It was based on real events; real quotes. It wouldn't have been nearly as funny if Palin hadn't actually said what Tina Fey was saying in the skits. There is nothing like this going on in the public schools in Arizona. The quotes weren't real. Again. If things are so bad, he should have been able to base it on reality.

Sarah Palin didn't actually say the things Tina Fey said in the skits. Sarah Palin demonstrated a level of ignorance so astounding that it made the things Tina Fey said in the skits amusingly close to the truth.

And Jan Brewer didn't say the things the hoax piece said she did, but Brewer's world view is such that it wouldn't really shock people if she had.

There is nothing like this going on in the public schools in Arizona. The quotes weren't real. Again. If things are so bad, he should have been able to base it on reality.

There's plenty going on in Arizona politics that makes this satire as plausible as Tina Fey's Sarah Palin.
