Sigh. I have been hesitant to share my thoughts on this discussion because they only get worse and worse. This last one takes the cake.

Forgive me but I am a bit of a black sheep here on this topic. I think all of these ideas are dumb but I suppose they could conceivably be fun.

Voting shouldn't be a problem. It holds no weight, so whats the worry. But if you're going to stage a live debate, there has to be some attraction for people to bother listening in. "Voting" for who won a debate just gives people a chance to interact a bit, to feel like they can participate too. and it's just a bit of fun. We need more fun around here.

Actually can't think of another forum that does something like this, so it would be innovative.

Not particularly.

I think we should focus on perfecting what we got right now. From my end of the responsibility spectrum, it means trying my best to moderate the discussions properly and timely. That is not easy. I am finding that the nature of the nitpicking that is going on is more challenging to moderate than it was before. I am not sure whether my attitude is changing or what but that is how I am perceiving things.

I say we should be bold and invite a politician or some important character to join our discussions as is.

I see no intelligent nor responsible reason why there should be a special section for them with only verified identities.

Seriously though... I dont think that anything like whats been mentioned so far is required.

I DO think that the rule against blatantly derailing threads should be enforced better... And I think we should have new dedicated topics for the topics that seem to spill into all the other threads and ask people to confine those topics to there (globam warming, the palestinian conflict are two common ones).
