eyeball Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 Variola is one of the few viruses that has only a human host/vector. It spreads incredibly easily via face to face contact. Stories of it being spread by blankets or horses or pigs or anything else is pure fantasy. It was the attempt based on the belief that it did that matters. What I find particularly disturbing was the hope of some Jesuits that the suffering they caused would make natives more amenable to their ministrations. Diddling with people's bodies was one thing but fucking with their heads was just downright mean. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
