The_Squid Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) Do you advocate for a gun registry? http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=21188entry814792 The bottom line has been my view all along. This post also shows DerekL's response to everything I say is "you're emotional". Its his way of saying he doesn't like what I post! Lol Edited December 16, 2012 by The_Squid Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 ..... I'm going to point out that Canada plays into our drug problem - and it's a fact that a lot of our gun deaths are drug related. 'Zactly....this incident didn't even happen in Canada, but it's another chance to advocate for changes to another nation's constitution from across the border. Amazing...... Guest Derek L Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 I haven't lost any of my shit! It's funny that you can tell that from typed words.... Over an Internet forum. Glorifying guns in a thread about dead children was in extremely poor taste DerekL. That's probably why you are on the end of so-called "personal attacks". Personally, I think anyone who would glorify the weapons used to kill children should be held to account. Where did I "glorify" it or the shooting? I've demonstrated how some current Canadian gun laws, made by people that don’t understand guns, are futile and do nothing to prevent actual gun crime, as such, repeating said model within the United States would also be as useless. Now, you a claimed gun owner, that loses his dignity over the internet, wishes to become some sort of internet Avenger? Quote

WWWTT Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 You're the one who brought it up when you claimed that your gun problem/gun death statistics are what they are because you border the U.S. If you're going to blame your gun statistics on the U.S., as you quote statistics for gun deaths in the U.S., I'm going to point out that Canada plays into our drug problem - and it's a fact that a lot of our gun deaths are drug related. And your the one that is trying to find evidence that the UK bans are not working and saving lives! Even though the facts do not fit your agenda! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! bush_cheney2004 Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 And your the one that is trying to find evidence that the UK bans are not working and saving lives! The USA is not the U.K. or Canada. Matter of fact, the Americans had to use guns to be rid of such places over 200 years ago, and that is why we have the 2nd Amendment. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Boges Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) I think the question a Gun ownership advocate has to ask themselves is why anyone, let alone a mother in New England, needs to legally own an assault rifle? An argument can be made for owning a handgun for protection (though, it's effectively banned in Canada) But it's hard to justify needing an M-16 clone rifle for hunting or protection. You would just own it cuz you can right? Edited December 16, 2012 by Boges Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 .... You would just own it cuz you can right? It was her constitutional right to do so. Her reasons were secondary. You would just own it cuz you can right? For true self defence purposes, a handgun’s smaller size garners a utility in terms of storage and transportability that it will allow a person defending themselves to get to a rifle, or better yet when indoors, a shotgun. Hence why soldiers carry rifles and not handguns, and police keep rifles and shotguns in their cars. Quote
Bryan Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 weakest PM in Canadian history Has the leader of any other political party in Canada ever increased his support in 5 consecutive elections? I'd say he's one of the strongest. Besides that, it's how much he's doing that lefties are opposed to that makes him so polarizing. Again, unliked perhaps, but a sign of strength in his leadership. What are the words lefties use to describe him? Authoritarian? Not characteristics of weakness, that's for sure. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 And your the one that is trying to find evidence that the UK bans are not working and saving lives! Nooo. Quite the opposite. I'm trying to get evidence of how much of a difference it's made. You made a claim, it's up to you to back it up. Even though the facts do not fit your agenda! What facts? I'm asking you for the facts. And since when is asking for information to back up a poster's claim an "agenda?" I'll never support a ban on guns, but I certainly support what the U.K. does in the U.K. - I'm not trying to change things in the U.K. - but I'm interested in how much of a difference it has made - which is why I'd appreciate answers to my questions. Again. You made the claim, so I'm assuming you based it on evidence - which I am asking for. I don't know how to make that any clearer. Quote
Boges Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 And until the weakest PM in Canadian history (Harper),there's a good chance it will. Chance what will? Killing sprees? Any evidence that Harper has done anything to make that more likely? Getting rid of a Long Gun Registry was a tool to eliminate a wasteful federal program. The guns in the Newtown shootings were legally owned so there's nothing to stop something like this happening in Canada. It happened in a College in Quebec years ago. Quote

If you use it for hunting, I'd call you a cheater. I watched a ESPN documentary last night about Bo Jackson. He does his hunting with a Bo and Arrow. Now that's Huntin'! Quote
The_Squid Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Guns do not work for self defense, on average. Mostly the guns kill people that they shouldn't, rather than an intruder. I'm not going to go and get the stats and links again.... The case is very clear. A gun under your pillow is more likely to kill your family/friends than the boogy-man. Quote
Smallc Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 A gun saved my dads life...from another gun, mind you, but still, without it, he would have been dead. Quote
The_Squid Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 A gun saved my dads life...from another gun, mind you, but still, without it, he would have been dead. Yes, anecdotes can be found for every case. I said "on average" and "more likely". Life isn't black/white. I'm glad your dad made it out of whatever harrowing situation he was in. Quote
Smallc Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 He was taken hostage, about 10 years ago. My uncle intervened long before the police showed up. Not a single shot had to be fired, thank goodness, and so no one but the hostage taker went to jail. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 What other rights do Canadians want to take away from Americans? How about that awful "Free Speech" thing that makes banning hate speech impossible in the U.S. ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
