What's with the obsession with Canada?

This is the Federal Politics area (for Canada, not the U.S.). So what's your obsession with what the U.S. wants to deal with when it comes to Federal Politics in Canada?

The new regime in Syria is going to be Al Qaeda supporting Islamists. The US is not going to want to deal with them. Unless you mean "deal with them".

The U.S. has been "dealing with" Islamists since before Canada was a sovereign state (see Barbary Pirates).

I never know (or care, really) where I am. I just answer a post if I feel like it. (Anarchist!)

It could have been in the arts and entertainment section for all I knew.

As for the "dealing with". Good. I like to see Islamists "dealt with".

Good, then you will be happy to know that there are more mosques in New York City than in all of Canada. Just one of the many ways that the U.S. "deals with" Islamists.

Assad has already lost. The rebels are in control of most of the country already. There will be no invasion unless it's just a quick in and out to secure dangerous weapons stockpiles.

Right...

I think I know where you can pick up a barely used Mission Accomplished banner pretty cheap.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Of course, the tipping point was Assad's fear of a Canadian invasion.

In fantasyland.

The U.S. has been dealing with Islamists for years its true. Its where they get their arms and support. Those world records in arms sales don't sell themselves. There has to be a demand for the supply and Islamists have proved an unending market for US arms. If the plan is to turn Syria into the next Afghanistan and Iraq that can be arranged as long as the strategy of divide and conquer and making away like bandits with oil profits and weapons sales continues.

Its sad there are certain elements in Canada that want to go down that road. I advise doing a little research into colonial history and the war crimes associated with it. I loathe the day that Canada becomes just another nation built on war crimes, and plundering. Its capable of so much more, but there are certain Canadians who are too greedy and narrow minded for that.

It's always got me how we hear about "radical Islam" on a regular basis since 9/11, but no one asks why the U.S. Government is keeping the primary sponsor of Wahabbism - Saudi Arabia's royal family - in power! Without U.S. guns and ammo, the regime would have collapsed years ago.

If the plan is to turn Syria into the next Afghanistan and Iraq that can be arranged as long as the strategy of divide and conquer and making away like bandits with oil profits and weapons sales continues.

There are too many issues going on in the world, for me to have an indepth knowledge of what's going on in Syria; but I can figure out that we are not being told the whole story....just as we weren't told the whole story about Libya's regime change. We could figure out that the Assad Family isn't very popular outside of their core supporters...since they have absconded with a good portion of the nation's wealth....like many dictators in the region. But, just as the Qadaffi Regime in Libya was supported by the U.S. and western powers, right up until they turned on him and decided to pick a new favourite, the same thing has happened in Syria -- remember the Maher Arar Case! What was most significant to me about that story, was that the U.S. was sending prisoners to places like Libya and Syria, and now they are trying to overthrow the Government by bringing in a bunch of Qataris, Sunni Iraqi militias, and Saudis...and maybe a few others have been payed to go there as part of something called "the Free Syrian Army."

Just going by who the U.S. is supporting and who they're trying to overthrow, it looks like they have clearly taken sides with Sunni-dominated regimes against Shiites and other minorities in the Middle East. After all, there is no talk about regime change or ending the dictatorship in Bahrain -- a 75% Shia nation, ruled by a Sunni royal family, who has even gone as far as going into hospitals to arrest doctors and nurses so they can't treat injured demonstrators.....yet Obama and Hilllary, have nothing to say about Bahrain's war crimes! I've heard that there is even circumstantial evidence that the spike in bombings and terrorist attacks in Iraq are being instigated by the U.S. and Turkey against the Malaki Government, which is considered too friendly to Iran and Russia.

A personal story came my way back in early November, when a friend from work told me about a surprise visit from his younger brother - who is a pilot in the Forces Air Command. According to 2nd hand information, he and other pilots were told that all leaves during Christmas were cancelled, and same goes for into 2013 until further notice. And that was why they were giving them the opportunity to go on early holiday visits. From what I was told, his brother says he wasn't given detailed information, and the rest of what they have been told to expect is classified, but it seems to have something to do with the Middle East situation. And that has left us wondering what does the U.S. and their new sidekicks - Canada, and likely England too, have planned for this year?

Sorry...I should have directly pointed out the dripping sarcasm.

Well, if it makes any difference, Canada buys plenty of U.S. arms too. Aircraft, GPS guided artillery shells, other munitions, laser guided bombs, JDAMs, torpedoes...you know...stuff to kill people in far away places like Iraq, Balkans, Serbia, Libya, Afghanistan, and Haiti.

Its sad there are certain elements in Canada that want to go down that road. I advise doing a little research into colonial history and the war crimes associated with it. Yeah....First Nations are so glad that Canada never went down that road.

True....President Reagan supported him by bombing his residence in 1986, while PM Martin supported him by begging for Canadian oil services contracts in a tent. The Canadian contractors had to run for their lives once the romance fizzled.

Yesterday's news that Obama has recognized the Syrian opposition as the legitimate government Syria means that by the end of this year Assad will have been overthrown. Then we will have yet another country governed by the muslim-brotherhood and we will be surprised why they hate the west even though the west brought them democracy. A real de ja vu.

Assad is still the legitimate president or whatever, would Canada or the US liked it if someone helped rebels in these countries overthrow our governments ?? Because with the US and such completely undermining the government of another nation and recognizing the rebels who are made up of many known terrorists and terrorist groups is bringing them democracy.... or so I am told. And yet people wonder why there is resentment collectively from Muslim and Arab populations? Maybe if we stop messing up their crap maybe we can start looking towards some kind of agreement.

Good. When you mobilize chemical weapons and threaten to use them, you need to be met with swift resistance from the international community.

So what if the rebels end up using it? Do we stop supporting the rebels that make this newly recognized government or do we condemn Assad for it either way and kill more people in the process?

You go in at the first sign of a nation having weapons they should not have or you don't go at all. At this point the barn door is already wide open and we are waiting for the horse to get out in order to close the door and secure the horse that is not there anymore. If Assad or the rebels want to kill more Syrians then who are we to stop them? They have been slaughtering each other for almost 2 years now, and suddenly we start carrying because of the method of the killing rather then the killing itself.

Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst

The saddest plebiscent on the Nation's intelligence in its entire history. If I was American and supported Bush/Cheney in 2004 I'd be ashamed.

That works out just right...because you are not American. Lots of Canadians wanted to vote in our election ( I guess yours are really really boring in comparison, and nobody else cares who wins).

Is there a point behind where the server network is located for MLW? Did I miss something in this side debate over nothing?

Typical distraction techniques from the usual suspects. They cannot, or simply won't deal with the subject matter in any kind of mature decorum.

Also what the hell does one expect from a poster using Bush_Cheney 2004 .............

Yes...the point is not subtle. MLW is hosted in the United States. The forum engine is American. It is a fun micrososm of the relationship between Canada and the evil U.S.

But in the end irrelevant to the discussion.
