Smallc Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Check the OP...as in topic. Maybe start a new thread to discuss another nation's defense spending and aircraft procurements. I started the topic, so I'm pretty sure I'm aware of its content. It's also worth noting that Derek, not I, brought up the US. I have no interest in engaging you unless you're going to bring serious points to the discussion. Good day. Quote
Smallc Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Indeed, the member is getting quite defensive over the new Liberal Government the he/she supported, namely in regards to the defense file Not at all. I have no way to yet gauge whether or not they're going to kee their word. Neither do you. I also have a thing against hypocrisy. Quote

Don't be distracted by the nation to your south that is building so many aircraft for itself and other nations. What is the Canadian process, and when will it be implemented ? bush_cheney2004 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 So basically, we don't know any more about the CF-18 replacement process than when this topic was started. But at least we know all about what is happening in the United States all the way down to Blue Angels. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Smallc Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 So basically, we don't know any more about the CF-18 replacement process than when this topic was started. That would be correct. The process is at near the zero mark and will not progress much for at least the next few months. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 That would be correct. The process is at near the zero mark and will not progress much for at least the next few months. Two different ideas....what the actual process is....and where it is at. Does anybody know the former ? Defining what it is not by quoting chapter and verse of American appropriations probably won't work this time. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
waldo Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Is your role now to run interference on defence issues? clearly that role is to perpetually snipe about how Canada can't match the procurement of the most militaristic nation ever... the nation that spends more than the next 7 countries combined... the nation with a population base more than ~10 times that of Canada! Apparently, as those posts are all allowed to stand by the moderator, they are not adding clutter... they are adding topical discussion point/interest! Quote

waldo Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 I have no idea, and if I did know I wouldn't likely be able to tell you.............none the less, the crux of the recent stories is to suggest that hackers could hack the F-35 in flight which is laughable. As addressed years ago, and discussed in previous threads, hackers can't send commands upstream a downlink used by the F-35's ALIS......not going to happen. The concern, as demonstrated several years ago by alleged Chinese state sponsored hackers, is obtaining information transferred through commercial networks, downstream from insecure civilian suppliers. Of course this no different then any system, used by any Government, that exchanges data through the "internets"...........and is one of the main limiting factors with the use of UAV's, which due to bandwidth constraints within military networks, did require the use of commercial systems, and likely resulted in operational UAV's in Iraq (in ~2007) having their live video feeds (not control of up/downlinks) hacked/eavesdropped. no - what is laughable is that you don't know what you're talking about and, surprise, you trundled forward so, so, certain of what you state! This cyber-security testing, not done as directed by the JSF office/LockMart, is focused on the computer/networking within the development/testing infrastructure. As I said, apparently that required/scheduled testing is too "real-world"! Certainly can't have that, right? . Quote

Of the F-35's ALIS network........as it was the subject of the previous cyber-security concerns several years ago, and yet again in relation to the recent security testing Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 What is the CF-18 replacement process, and when will it be implemented ? Anybody ? One must assume your query has to do with Canada as always. Well now that we have got rid of the Harper conservatives, we will move on to a proper competition, which should be done when spending taxpayer money, and we shall see ho emerges I have serious doubts it will be the bomb truck though. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Looks like I will have to do this myself...as usual. Future Fighter Capability Project (natch, since it wouldn't be in the past or present): The Future Fighter Capability project will provide the mandated Government of Canada aerospace and force employment capabilities necessary to apply airpower in multi-role operations, both nationally and internationally. This includes precision Air-to-Air (A/A), Air-to-Ground (A/G) and Air-to-Surface (ASu) capabilities, and non-traditional Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) in the defence of Canada, North America and expeditionary operations. So what do we know ? Three staffers led by a new Fisheries minister is running the show. Sounds encouraging ! What are they doing now? We don't know. When will we know? We don't know. Why are F-35 photos still being used ? Because they couldn't find photos of the other "competing" aircraft. Stay tuned.... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Derek 2.0 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Why are F-35 photos still being used ? Why hasn't Canada left the F-35 program and is still investing development dollars in said program? Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Why hasn't Canada left the F-35 program and is still investing development dollars in said program? Said program is done unless it can win an open competition. Either way we will still be building bomb truck parts. Quote
waldo Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Of the F-35's ALIS network........as it was the subject of the previous cyber-security concerns several years ago, and yet again in relation to the recent security testing ah yes! I'll always relish anyone putting forward a link to confirm exactly what I said... you summarily dispatched the need for the tests, that everything had been taken care of "years ago"! As I said, the testing was aimed at the broader "computer/networking infrastructure"... the all-inclusive nature of puters/networks! According to Lockheed Martin’s website, ALIS “integrates a broad range of capabilities including operations, maintenance, prognostics and health management, supply chain, customer support, training and technical data.” yup... although put forward initially as a part of the required/scheduled testing requirements, apparently... these tests were too "real-world" for the JSF office/LockMart, hey! . waldo Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Why hasn't Canada left the F-35 program and is still investing development dollars in said program? you can keep asking... we'll keep replying the same! Minimal investment to stay eligible for contract bidding! As you know, there is no requirement to actually buy any to be able to bid/secure on contracts - yes? Quote
waldo Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 So what do we know ? What are they doing now? We don't know. When will we know? We don't know. keep vigilant! If you're not aware, the new Canadian government has only had a single week in Parliamentary session... stay tuned for the coming session in the new year. Good to read you including yourself... in the "we"! . Quote
waldo Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 What of them? Has India or Qatar actually ordered the Rafale yet? yes - Qatar... 24 as of yesterday... (sort of) yes - India... 36 - contract to be signed in January ... any word on that India/Russia 'collaboration' and India's purchase of 154 of the derivative Indian version of the Russian PAK FA T-50 5th gen fighter jet... wasn't that supposed to happen by year-end? . WestCanMan Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Justin Trudeau is still determined to withdraw our fighter planes from the fight against Isil despite the fact that they were required to protect our ground troops yesterday. How long is it going to be before his stupidity costs the lives of Canadians? Edited December 19, 2015 by Charles Anthony corrected spelling of Trudeau's name Quote If CNN gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed. If you missed something on the Cultist Narrative Network, don't worry, the dolt horde here will make sure everyone hears it. "If it didn't come from CNN, it's heresy!" - leftist "intellectuals"
Derek 2.0 Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 yes - Qatar... 24 as of yesterday... Considering their last two frontline fighters were Dassault products, not too surprised. Not sure on the status of the T-50 program, but then its an unrelated program, as the Rafale will be the replacement for the Indian's older Migs and Jaguars, in the (nuclear) strike role........again, not a surprising move, as the Indians have longstanding ties with both the Russians and French. As you know, there is no requirement to actually buy any to be able to bid/secure on contracts - yes? How much money is Canada investing in similar Boeing, Dassault, Saab etc programs? In the spirit of "fairness" shouldn't we spread the pork investments around? Quote
