Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I provided, in the other thread, the DoD 2016 budget framework........no money for any Hornets or Growlers, hence, without new orders, the plant closes in 2017. Again, even with no sales, it doesn't close: http://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/boeings-super-hornet-facility-to-be-kept-open-because-of-upgrade-work-future-sales Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 There are companies that were prevented from bidding. There never should have been a sole source bid. If we'd held a competition, we'd probably be waiting for the F-35s we purchased by now. You realize sole sourced means one bidder right? Hence, no losers to unleash lawyers....... Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Again...depending on what another nation will/will not do. I thought this was a Canadian procurement / decision ? We're discussing likely outcomes. Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 You realize sole sourced means one bidder right? Hence, no losers to unleash lawyers....... Those prevented from bidding could do just that, and probably would have had we bought the F-35. Of course, Harper never planned to buy the thing, or he would have. Quote

There is not yet, however information from as late as this month says that an order is pending. The Navy in fact asked for money for 12 more F-18Fs this year, but was shot down by the Pentagon. Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 The plant doesn't close, the production line for the Super Hornet (and Eagle) will close with no new orders. And it can be re-opened, though certainly as a cost. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 We're discussing likely outcomes. Your position is based on campaign promises and non-existing procurement contracts for an aircraft that hasn't even been chosen yet. My position is based on facts concerning actual production of the aircraft you are considering. The USA and partners build the F-16, F-18, F-15, and F-35 for paying customers, not campaign promises. Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Sue on what grounds......if BC-2004 puts a lousy roof on my house, you can't sue him Government has rules for purchasing. Competition is the norm when there are competitors. Besides, no one is saying that LM can't bid. They have another aircraft to offer, after all. Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Not likely.... Could be very liekly as more and more f 35 orders dissolve. Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Not in a sole sourced contract. Sole source contracts are not normally allowed. Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Could be very liekly as more and more f 35 orders dissolve. According to Derek, everything is fine. The reality is, not even the US can afford the number of F-35s they were to originally order, and with every aircraft fewer the price goes up. All of this, of course, is irrelevant, as we aren't buying the F-35. Quote

Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Thank dawg for elections. I was fine buying the F-35. We're not. That's settled. There's no use dwelling on it. Quote
Smallc Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 And when they are, there are no losers, hence nobody to sue the Government. It was questionable that this contract should have been sole sourced, as there were available competitors. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 The U.S. is building far more F-35s than F-18s....production is ramping up regardless of how Canada decides or dithers: F-35 prime contractor Lockheed Martin is expanding the capacity of its one-mile, 25-foot long aircraft assembly line facility here so it is capable of producing roughly 200 jets per year by the end of 2019. The F-35 program will triple its aircraft production and fielding rate by 2019, producing over 120 planes per year. It will deliver about 43 planes next year. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Exactly, and is why the purchase will either be deferred or they will run a charade of a process and get sued by the losers. Quote
