cybercoma Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 A Dutch newspaper is claiming that Mitt Romney has avoided paying $100 Million in taxes via the Netherlands. It continues to come to light that the man who wants to be president, whose father insisted on candidates releasing their tax records, who has been hiding his tax returns, has not been paying his fair share. His tax evasion only contributes to the deficit that he claims to be fighting against. Tsk tsk, Mr. Romney. Quote

I don't believe that fairness should be as much a discussion in economics as "what works" - but many disagree with me and they will take a dim view of Romney's game. I think that’s the disconnect though, in that one portion of the US population care what Romney did/does with his own money, well the other portion cares what Obama will do with their money……….What portion is greater, well I suppose we’ll know in about 36 hours……..Perhaps 48 hours if the election polling is accurate in predicting a close race. I’m not so sure about that…………I’ll double down on my earlier predictions from a month or two ago and say: The Congress will stay much the same +/- a few GOP seats. The Senate will shake out in the Democrats favour something like 51/52 versus 49/48 Romney will win the popular vote by one or two percentage points And Romney will win the electoral collage somewhere between 270-300 points. Canuckistani Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Infer what you will - I'm just helping out with some basic math for those who can't do it themselves. Pretty hard to infer what you're on about. On the one hand you're concerned about how that money could support thousands of families, on the other you seem to be saying meh, that's what works. Or something like that. What exactly was your point? If you're all about what works, why not just throw in your lot with the right wingers, since you seem convinced that's what works. Or that there's no point fighting it, which comes to the same thing. Trying to read the translated Dutch, I think Romney/Bain avoided paying tax on 100 million in dividends, not avoided paying 100 million in taxes. Quote

Canuckistani Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Well, obviously you're free to post what you want. But that's not much of a post is it? You're a moderator, I would expect post with more meat on them from you. Many people don't like licorice. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 But that's not much of a post is it? It generated 4 posts of response, so far. The question of "What works" economically is actually pretty good grist for the mill around here. You may notice that posters will oscillate between what works and what`s fair according to how comfortable it feels on their political frame.
