This joke was in my inbox. Wasn't sure where to post it but if we look past the humour and examine the point perhaps we have something worth discussing.

ONTARIO:

Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario is jogging with his dog along a nature trail.

A coyote jumps out and attacks the Premier's dog, then bites the

Premier.

The Premier starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie "Bambi"

and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only doing

what is natural.

He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and

bills the province $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it.

The Premier goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for

diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged.

The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish and Game

conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is now free of

dangerous animals.

The Premier spends $50,000 in provincial funds implementing a

"coyote awareness program" for residents of the area.

The provincial legislature spends $2 million to study how to better

treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the

world.

The Premier's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack.

The province spends $150,000 to hire and train a new agent with

additional special training re: the nature of coyotes.

PETA protests the coyote's relocation and files a $5 million suit

against the province.

ALBERTA:

Premier Alison Redford is jogging with her dog along a nature

trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks the dog.

The Premier's security agent shoots the coyote and keeps

jogging.

The Premier has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point

cartridge.

The crows eat the dead coyote.

.......................

And that, my friends, is why Ontario is broke and Alberta is not.

The coyote was an endangered species, and tourism in Alberta drops to zero as a result of the shooting.

McGuinty's program results in a societal change in how we look at problems but in Ontario only.

Welfare drops to zero.

Ontario wins.

Why would Alberta's Tourism industry suffer for a dead Coyote?

That being said part of the reason Alberta isn't broke is the support of natural resources. I'd just get that out of the way before the Alberta haters get on board.

But the assessment of how idiotic McDalton is, is an apt one.

Because tourists become appalled with how the endangered species was treated.

Then why did your premier open up on a poor defenseless animal ?!? How did she support the coyote right there ?

He solved Ontario's welfare problem pretty easily - how is he an idiot ?

She's not my Premier and if she was being attacked the animal wasn't defenseless.

How so? and do you want the 700-page memo on reason's why Dalton is an idiot?

Today alone I can give you 40 million reasons.

If winning meant having a really shitty provincial government then yeah, I'd say we're winning.

Yep. Also, if winning meant high unemployment, higher taxes, record deficits, and a record debt. Then yes, we're beating everybody!

Yay us!

The reason Alberta is doing so well is oil and gas and Ontario was doing well until the manufacturing went south, east and west because certain government let the corporations make the rules. If the Auto Pact had stayed in, then Ontario would be doing a lot better auto sector wise and by have "if you want to sell it here, make it here" Ontario wouldn't have the problems of today.

Maybe, Topaz. Still, I can't help but think that McGuinty driving up the price of electricity so high didn't help to keep the corporations in Ontario.

That's just one of the dumb things he did. If he let the corporations make the rules then why have so many decided to leave?

Or just gone out of business. That must be it! They got their own way so they went out of business, just for the fun of it!

Somehow, I don't think we can hold McGuinty totally blameless for what has happened in Ontario.

Except that corporations aren't leaving Ontario. Ontario's economy is growing at the national average.

He's an idiot, but it isn't his fault.

What an idiotic joke. Last I read, Alberta spends more per capita than any other province except for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Great links. You'll get no argument from me about the unfairness of income redistribution.

Since that wasn't my point, and I don't disagree with equalization, you'll definitely get an argument from me. My point was that it's a stupid baseless joke.

You'll also notice that you have some have provinces (NL, SK, and AB) spending a great deal of money, and have not province (MB, NS, and ON) spending much less in relative terms.

Ontario's getting screwed, so that other provinces can spend much more per capita on their citizens.

Not really. Ontario has tax rates below the national average. Being part of a country is about more than simple greed. What provinces choose to do with their revenue (most of which doesn't come from equalization, no matter which province we're talking about) is their decision. How much revenue they choose to raise is their decision. Federal programs have little to do with it.

Not really. Some are, some aren't. Some are necessary in order to stay competetive. Perhaps other provinces should try something similar. You might cease to be a welfare recipient province.

Being part of a country is about more than simple greed.

Really. Tell that to the thousands of public servants being given pink slips. Is that greed?

You may be right about the points you've mentioned Smallc but I have personally talked to a few businesses that are moving to upper New York because of the dramatic rise in electricity costs since McGuinty came to power.

I know the OP is a joke but don't even think of killing or mistreating a coyote in calgary they keep our stray domestic cat population in check...

I would be very surprised if there many businesses moving to the US right now.
