while you're in another of your distraction modes, I realize accuracy is not your thing... that ~80% ratio you keep barking over associates to gun death suicides in the home. The overall suicide rate per U.S. gun deaths is between 50-55%. In any case, I acknowledge your ready reach to find some kind of distracting delineation in overall gun deaths... I expect you to shortly offer up an efficiency measure in touting the "success outcomes" that guns bring to suicide attempts.

Although most gun owners reportedly keep a firearm in their home for "protection" or "self defense," 83 percent of gun-related deaths in these homes are the result of a suicide, often by someone other than the gun owner.

Firearms are used in more suicides than homicides.

Death by firearms is the fastest growing method of suicide.

Firearms account for 50 percent of all suicides.

Figures from the National Center for Health Statistics for the year 2009.

what? More... continued distraction? Look buddy, if you're going to quote something that actually proves my point... and trounces your puffery... at least have the wherewithal to acknowledge same - hey?

about that 'suicide by gun' efficiency rating I anticipate you'll play upon next?

Proves that you can't read:

No, said member's retort was to point out another gun death.........With the 30-35k gun deaths a year in the United States (Of which, like us, ~80% are suicides) one could figure a daily average of somewhere between 75-100 deaths a day………Now what percentage are crimes committed against another by a legal gun owner?

proves your reading comprehension is flawed... I've corrected your distracting nonsense above - red bold highlighted, italicized and underlined. Oh, wait now - perhaps you're claiming those 35,000 U.S. gun deaths a year all occur in U.S. homes!

now, c'mon... about that 'suicide by gun' efficiency rating you're just waiting to trot out!

It's your, rather weak distraction.........Care to offer up anything to counter? Or are you just going to continue to post those fancy indented quotes....

 I accept your unconditional surrender, vis-a-vis your nonsense concerning suicide gun death rates per overall/per home.

Bullets sure as hell help.

Yeah but if we look at every homicide through history, the one thing that stands as common between them is not the gun or the bullet but the human being. If I wanted to kill a bunch of people, I would not need a gun or bullets to do so, if I wanted to do damage I could find dozens of ways to do so with materials that I have available to me legally. Removing the mode of the murder does not remove the desire or motivation for the action.

Guns don't fire themselves so thinking that eliminating the gun will eliminate the violence is naive at best.

Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst

He just smacked down your entire argument and you don't even see it.

Virginia Tech, Aurora, and the Sikh Temple were all shootings that took place outside of homes. That's the inherent problem with the numbers you're using.

At any rate, an awful tragedy.

Does anyone know if the rumours that the shooter was a White Supremacist have been confirmed?

Edit: it seems indeed to be the case.

Regardless (as you two obviously won‘t provide sources), of the 250+ million, legal, private firearms within the United States, what percentage of said guns were used to kill a person yesterday, what percent will kill people today and tomorrow?

How many zeros after the decimal?

One thing that strikes me about this thread -

One white guy full of hate kills 6 Sikhs, and America is full of hate. One guy out of 312 million. But when 19 Muslims killed almost 2000 Americans, without one gun I might add, it wasn't a reflection on Islam. Oh, no. The Muslims who want to do away with us are just a small minority, and anyone who doesn't recognize that is full of hate. As one guy with a gun out of 312 million Americans is proof of a huge problem in the U.S. Of course the fact that the Oklahoma City bomber also managed to kill a few people without a gun seems to be forgotten, too. Just ban guns - and get Americans to hold hands and sing Kumbya - and problem solved. The world will be full of peace and harmony.

Exactly.........Meanwhile, over 250 million private firearms didn’t kill anybody today ;)

I'm not sure of the equivalence you're drawing between "America" and "Islam."

And for that matter, who is saying that there is no serious issue with Islam?

With whom are you arguing?

I think I posted this quote in the other gun thread: "After a shooting spree, they always want to take guns away from the people who didn't do it."

You bet. Notice the mention of Skinheads and CCW laws within the media……..Totally irrelevant, yet scary stuff…….I’m waiting for a connecting reference to the Turner Diaries and gun owners……

Definitely, about the only “positive aspect” was the heroic actions of the police lieutenant that got shot well rendering First Aid.

I don't think it's so positive that he got shot "well." ;)
