Current Govt worse than ignorant

Recommended Posts

You must have bought real shitty lightbulbs because Iv been using mini flourescents for a few years now, and they dont take any time to heat up, and they last a hell of a lot longer that filament bulbs.

The real problem with mini flourescents is that in Canada you are heating for most of the year, and those incandescent bulbs are actually nice little 100% efficient electric heaters. So most of what you save in lighting with miniflourescents will be lost in increased heating costs.

That is an interesting dilemma. Save here, spend more there. With no net gain or loss.

When Harper did that, he misled a lot of people about their own system of governance and, by doing so, also undermined it, preemptively cutting down in the eyes of much of the public both parliament's and the Governor General's powers, implying that if either did anything they in truth could but contrary to the falsehoods Harper said, it would be undemocratic and illegitimate. That's pretty crass and irresponsible.

Hell, it could border on treason, as it may be construed as a deliberate attempt to undermine the powers of the Crown and encourage a revolt against it. Edited by cybercoma

And if the NDP are elected next time around with the same statistics, we know it'll be perfectly fine and democratic ;)

No. There is a problem with an electoral system that gives a clear majority to a party with less than 40% of the popular vote, regardless of who's in power. Contrary to what the Conservative partisan bandwagon here thinks, the problems with the electoral system is not a partisan issue.

You respond to nonsense with equally banal stupidity.

Which is then followed up by this beauty post!

Keep showing us your brilliance, professor. When you have nothing of value to contribute, we can always count on you painting the page yellow with a bunch of asinine emoticons.

2.Being an unabashed wannabe Yank,I'm suprised The Prof...erm....sorry...Shady has any interest in what's going on in this country at all???

By the way...Fletch/CPCFTW/Shady...When in doubt, give 'em a  and a  for added effect!!

Nope, I don't get upset at all about it. As long as it's a two-way street.

I tend to often suprise people, in a good way.

Well small net gain during monthes where you arent heating or you are air conditioning. Not to mention a kewler home in the summer.

But certainly not the kind of gain you would get somewhere hot. And they cost way more.

We've just got to start holding the people not in power to the same standards we're holding the people in power.

:)

Look--again--I agree with the ""The Liberals did it too," theme; it's obviously true. I agree with the "The NDP will doubtless act similarly, were they in power" theme.

But at some point--this one actually, the point we're currently at--such objections are explicitly diversions, made by tantrum-throwing Conservative partisans who don't want anyone to criticize the Government.

It's weak, man, weak, and an embarassment.

You clearly embarrass too easily.

I don't mind criticizing the Conservative government. There's plenty there to criticise. What gets me is when the self-righteous start yelping about the stuff they've been perfectly fine with for decades when it was done by their party, stuff they're perfectly fine with NOW when done by their party. But because the Tories do it quelle horreur! They're shocked and appalled! They've never seen such things!? Why, I bet those tories even employ spinmasters and media consultants, the cads!

The term I have seen used was 'not legitimate' , and that is an outirght lie.

Legitimate? Legitimate is a word open to all kinds of nuances and interpretations. No doubt that is why they used it.

So they didn't lie. They simply used a word which is open to multiple interpretations and let people use the one they wanted them to. Big shocker. Politicians try to get people to believe what they want them to believe. News at eleven!

Your continual (among others)denigration of a scholar of constitutional law would be funny if it weren't so embarassing and juvenile.

I respect scholars when they act like scholars and talk like scholars. When they talk like cranky old men I tend to lose that respect.

I wonder how the past employees of the asbestos industry feel that way now?

As a person who unknowingly worked next to a massive pipe replacement being done in a kevlar plant, the pipes of which were covered with an in & half of asbestos fibre, I am thankful fro each day I don't have Mesothelioma and would never again work near it.

I'd bet that the remaining (live) workers from that plant wouldn't again do the job they did with or without the protections now in place that were missing in the 70s, as wouldn't my Bro-in-law who is now and has been for many years, dead from Mesothelioma.

You'd be wrong. Take a look around the world at plants where it's well known people are getting sick from toxic air or dying from poor safety. People will go and take their chances because they need the job. And I'm not simply talking about third world countries. You can see such places in the US easily enough, particularly in "right to work" states.

It could I suppose... depending on your psychological health.

You expect deep intellectual insights in a post aimed at socialist? :o

Either that or ignore him. I'm as guilty of it as everyone else, so I shouldn't preach. But I actually respect your conservative-minded opinions when you're not being dragged down by the rampant stupidity that has been status quo lately.

Yea...it's just unsafe to shop at Canadian malls! ;)

What a remarkably disgusting comment and you add a winking emoticon to the post, as if anyone should take this as even remotely humourous. You should either apologize for this completely distasteful and disrespectful comment or you should be banned permanently. We don't need people like you on these forums that would make light of innocent people dying.

Oh...I am most certainly sorry then...I didn't realize that Katrina jokes don't fly in Canada. Making "light" of other innocent people dying is OK?
