WWWTT Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 As promised after this convention here's my take on it. First off Sid Ryan made several passionate speeches about the liberals going too far on corporate tax cuts and that we should lobby the government to reverse them to help pay for necessary programs.I agree! We said farewell to outgoing provincial NDP president Sarah Clifford. She came over from the OFL and maintained the traditional labour voice in the NDP. Congradulations to Neethan Shan for winning the parties presidency! It was a tight one with Andrew MacKenzie. There was many other positions up for election aswell. This weekend all the MPP's were showcased and Horwath won a strong confidence vote. Since the NDP is the most democratic party we spent a great deal of time voting on motions, referalls, etc, etc. The convention was topped off with a speech from Mulcair! As always I was frantic all weekend working the floor making new contacts.Chalk another one up for WWWTT! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

Newfoundlander Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 The only think the Ontario NDP should be concerned with is defeating the Liberal government's budget next week. They should also be concerned that after their best election result since Bob Rae's time as leader 25% of the party don't want Andrea Horwath to continue as leader. Quote

Possibly? We'll see after the next provincial election. The liberals don't want to go to the polls yet but perhaps 2013??? WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! madmax Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) The only think the Ontario NDP should be concerned with is defeating the Liberal government's budget next week. Not gonna happen. If the budget fails.. the Liberals will defeat themselves in order to go to the polls. Edited April 16, 2012 by madmax Quote

I don't think either are worried with those kinda numbers.. However.. look at people with great approval numbers like Campbell who had 80% and was turfed by his own party a few months after the convention.. I can think of a few others.. Partisans in political parties are fickle. However, the NDP seems to hold onto their leaders one election cycle longer then the other parties.. for better or for worse. Quote

You make an excellent point, Campbell got 80% and was turfed from the party. I can't remember what leader it was but I saw a tweet saying that a leader resigned because they only got a 76% approval. When you consider that Hudak's expectations compared to Horwath's was much bigger the fact she did worse then him in a leadership review is significant in my opinion. Quote
Newfoundlander Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 The Ontario Liberals are supposedly the most ready to go the polls so I don't know why the NDP or PCs would want to defeat them yet, it could lead to the Ignatieff-effect. Quote

He didn't resign he handed Mulroney the leadership by winning a leadership review but going to a leadership race where he ran anyway. I am pretty sure this is what happened. I think it was closer to 65% supporting him and 35% against. Edited April 17, 2012 by punked Quote

Boges Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 When I was at the convention I met many of the winners for the NDP WWWTT I meant to form a government. Howard Hampton was never realistically expected to win so he could do a few elections. While John Tory was turfed after one election and many think Tim Hudak shouldn't get a second chance. Then next Federal election will be the fourth in a row the Liberals will take part in with a different leader because they feel they need a winner. Quote

If Howard Hampton was never "Realistically" expected to win, then its realistic to expect him to achieve some other goal. John Tory has poor political judgement. Seems like a really good guy.. just not cut out for politics. Hudak... I think he is the best the PCs have to offer. Quote
