And for the possible winner and representative of Miss Universe to have been born a male, defeats the whole purpose of the contest for Miss Universe. You know, the whole Miss part. Like I said, it fundamentally changes the premise and purpose of said pageant. That being said, I really couldn't care less about these types of competitions. Quote

But wouldn't that conclude that there is no "bigotry" towards transgenders since they aren't the only ones facing unfair discrimination? It's not a matter of bigotry, but rather a very specific type of person that they are looking for. So not all discrimination = bigotry. There are some events where contestants must meet very specific qualifications. My point is, I have no problem with a transgender competing, but do I find that discrimination any more troublesome than the other discriminatory qualifications? I honestly don't know. But then, I have no use for such pageants myself as I acknowledge that there are a lot of things other people like/participate in/enjoy that I personally have no use for. My main argument with your view is that you claim everyone who doesn't think transgenders should be able to compete in this pageant is a "bigot," and I just don't see it that way. I may not agree with their opinion, but then I'm not a "target member" of the audience such an event is appealing to, either. As a side point, there is a Miss Black USA, but can you imagine if there were a "Miss White USA?" Yet there are no public objections to "Miss Black USA" that I'm aware of, and I doubt if the people running the pageant are bigots. Quote

Allowing transgender people would undermine that desirability because of the 'yuck' factor that the transgender process induces in the hetrosexual males that are an audiance for such things. You could argue that the the audiance is being unreasonable but we are talking about entertainment here: why should anyone expect anyone else to leave their comfort zone when they are looking for entertainment? Anyways, it's true that women can have cosmetic surgery, but that surgery is based on the same female born composition. They reinforce a constructed beauty ideal, which doesn't include the black body. The objections to the transgendered woman is that she meets the beauty ideal, but if anyone found out it would hurt their tender sensibilities that she's able to meet that ideal although born male. If they say it does not include transgender and black people then that is their choice.In any case, do you think a woman who works in porno flicks would be allowed to compete? I am sure there are many other questions related to a woman's background that make her ineligible. I don't see why asking if someone was born a women would an unreasonable requirement given the many other arbitrary requirements that only exist to promote the contest to the minority of people that are interested in such things.
