The "Open Conspiracy" theory says that because the populous has been deliberately dumbed down(in a whole host of areas),the things that seemed to be done behind the proverbial curtains,is being done out in the open and no one seems to bat an eyelash...

I don't think that anybody has dumbed down the populace.

They just dumbed themselves down? How on earth could the mashing together of entertainment and news media NOT dumb down the populace?

Capitalism usually means media produce what consumers want to consume. People like to watch their Daily Show and think they're informed. Cracking open a newspaper, or god forbid a book *gasp* (non-fiction that is), is too much work.

Staying informed is indeed a lot of work, which really sucks for those (usually at the top) that benefit.

Thats the problem. If there was a good source of unbiased news media that stuck to the facts and ran stories based on their journalistic value, as opposed to their marketing value... then almost nobody would watch it.

Imagine if kids at school just read whatever they wanted, instead of materials deemed by educators to have education value? They would read comic books, and adult magazines, and theyd learn almost nothing. And thats exactly how voters are educated.

Maybe this is more an example of the people getting what they wanted all along...

Theres definately some truth to that, but that doesnt tell the whole story. Clearly a lot of people that tune into infotainment networks really do think they are watching "the news". I dont think most people realize the extent to which its driven by marketing and various private adgendas, and I dont think they quite grasp the conflicts of interest involved.

You would have to disclose all that information to see if thats what people "really want".

There is no time delay from the person in the CNN studios in the USA to the reporter in Saudi Arabia. All this new technology does not get rid of that fact. In that video, there is NO time delay. So either CNN has a studio in Saudi Arabia, or the reporter was closer to the studio in the USA. Conclusion? Fake.

So, I looked at all 4 videos again. I don't see anything that rates interest, much less concern.

Can you point out what I missed ?

Ok. Are people who don't know what "the news" is made dumber by the programs they watch ? Or did they arrive on the scene pre-dumbed ?

The 2nd video is some kind of CNN gag reel... I could only stand about 3 minutes, which I will never get back by the way.

Probably a combination of both. But there should be some standards, that are determined by journalists, who have now completely lost control of the news to corporate/marketing folks, obsessed with ratings and "giving people what they want".

Most industries have ways to deal with this, news media should as well. If I ask an electrician to install an outlet in my shower hell tell me to go pound sand, because he has to do his job properly or he will lose his license.

If you go and get educated as a journalist, Im pretty sure that "telling people what they want to hear", is not going to be a very big part of the curriculum. They get trained on how to select which stories have journalistic value, how to be objective and not betray a personal opinion unless their segment is clearly marked as editorial.

There are standards: return on investment, stock price...

These are the real numbers, in the end, for all businesses. It is why the Toronto Maple Leafs have actually been NHL champions for decades now, but no one has noticed.

Then after school, they learn how the real world works - just as we all do.

Like I said... In most industries you arent allowed to operate that way.

Not for a lawyer that loses his license to practice because he broke the rules. Its not gonna matter how popular he was, because hes out of business. They can do whatever they want to try to be popular (get ratings), but they have to practice their trade properly, and in many cases claiming that "the employer made them do it" is not an excuse either.

We're talking about the 2nd video in this thread ?

The first one or two is the 'live' cnn broadcasts.

The second video shows the studio where they shot the 'reporting live from Saudi Arabia' ... obviously something is not right here.

I didn't see any evidence of delays/non-delays in that one. It's just a stream of broadcast from the remote location so you can't tell if there's delay or not.

Well, it's a gag reel so that's the first thing that's not right. It's out-takes and jokes from the crew. What else is 'not right' ?

The second one shows what happens behind the scenes. Also shows the blue/green screen used to show 'Saudi Arabia'. If he was on location on Saudi Arabia, why would you need a studio and a green screen?

A gag reel? Even if it's a gag reel, it shows how the 'live' part was done. It was all done in studio and that reporter most likely never left the USA.

I'm not sure. Maybe somebody with a technical background could answer that.

You don't have proof of that. It sounds to me like they're in Saudi and not happy with being there from the dialogue that's going on. What would be the point of not sending the crew to SA ? Saving money ? They doubtlessly could afford to do it, and they had clearance from the SA government to do so, so...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_key

Chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a special effects / postproduction technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together, used heavily in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video - particularly the newscasting, motion picture and videogame industries. A color range in the top layer is made transparent, revealing another image behind. The chroma keying technique is commonly used in video production and post-production.

It does not have to be post production, this can be done on the fly. You might not see it quite well, but all those shots from Saudi Arabia were done in a studio. The green screen was used to show outdoor shots behind the reporter as they were inside the studio.

Why would they need to do that?

Proof of what ? And again what is the motive for doing this ? If you're postulating that this was done in order to fake information about the war itself, why wouldn't they go to Saudi Arabia to do that ? To save money ?

Which is the reason why hardly anybody knows who Joseph Kony is, and the media barely reported this and its resulting 4+ million deaths and counting.

News organizations are suposed to give us unbiased real news. Instead we get a vew the advertisers want you to see.

They ARE doing their jobs properly. They're getting ratings.

If ratings is all they are after (market share) then they stop being a source of real news. Advertisers spend a lot of money on ads, to the point it can dictate what goes on the air to a certain extent. Money can make things go away. You stop doing news and you also lose your integrity and others no longer respect you and think you are a valid news source.

IF the news organization is only after ratings, then the truth will not all come out.

Then after school, they learn how the real world works - just as we all do.

So why do news organizations use studios with green screens to show 'live' shots? What is the purpose of that? Scrutinize it, think about it. Again, it's called propaganda for a reason.

Also wonder why something like the AP can send out one article and CNN FOX, CBC< BBC RT ect ect ect all use the same article without doing their own work?

This Kony 2012 is a hilarious campaign. Just a reason to put more troops in Africa to push back the Chinese.

Oddly enough, most of the countries and groups involved in the 2nd Ongoing Congo War are equiped with Russian and Chinese weapons. A huge freighter full of Russian weapons must have washed up on the beach. Perhaps two...

Your assessment makes sense.

You stop doing news and you also lose your integrity and others no longer respect you and think you are a valid news source.

It's death by 1000 cuts though... hardly noticeable year to year.

IF the news organization is only after ratings, then the truth will not all come out.

Again, makes sense.

So why do news organizations use studios with green screens to show 'live' shots? What is the purpose of that? Scrutinize it, think about it. Again, it's called propaganda for a reason.

The only thing I could see is that it saves money. If you have a suggestion then give it here.

Also, the example you gave may or may not have used a blue screen in the background (the CNN example) but I do think they were in SA, so they could truthfully say they were live from SA.

Also wonder why something like the AP can send out one article and CNN FOX, CBC< BBC RT ect ect ect all use the same article without doing their own work?

Look up the history of how/why the newswires were set up to share information. It makes good business sense.

My take on this is that there's no bottom line to making bad news: it doesn't cost anybody money, and indeed it makes people money. So unless you get 'concerned citizens' stepping in to get people upset about the situation, nobody will do anything until the final effects are felt...

Because they're afraid of Russian made weapons? Didn't stop 'em in the past. Russia and China just like to hand them out. There are over 175 million (MILLION) Russian made AK-47s alone somewhere on this planet. Then there's the Chinese copies.
