I know there are groups that have a vested interest in Canada having only one customer for our oil. Some are in the Middle East and some are South of the border.

The truth is that our oilsands have next to know impact on climate change. Despite Obama's blatant lie that our oil is extraordinarily dirty, California blends are the most carbon intensive in North American. Nigerian is the most carbon intensive in the world. The International Energy Agency has said that all new oilsands production amounts to about 23 hours of C02 emissions from China.

The oilsands are superior to OPEC oil by 4 measures of liberal values: Environmental responsibility, peace, treatment of workers and human rights.

The oilsands are becoming greener all the time with solar panels incorporated in in-situ methods, talingless ponds, a water recycling rate well over 90%. Pulp and paper mills in BC have a greater impact on local environments that oilsands do.

Keep polluting, just buy more credits......

Buy credits to offset oilsands, cabinet advised

The cabinet memorandum outlines the difficulty in tackling the oilsands emissions, providing an insight into why that sector was largely absent from Aglukkaq's announcement.

"The oilsands represent a unique emissions challenge," said the memorandum.

"Increasing production is expected to outpace improvements in emissions intensity and most technologies with the potential to reduce emissions have not been commercialized or technically proven."

"Emissions from oilsands are projected to increase by 102 MT [million tonnes] from 2005 to 2030."

The documents say that Canada should buy international emissions credits specifically to "counterbalance increasing emissions from the oilsands."

"Credits would be scalable and could be considered to offset the expected growth in oilsands emissions from 2020 to 2030."

This is a point I've been making here for a long time. This in no way addresses the pollution reduction targets if one can simply buy credits if they do not reach their goals.

Is the oil sands not a major oil spill? Caused by mother earth? And by processing the sands is the same as cleaning up a old gas station? There is land out there that was just oil sand and now is green, so really is this not bhelping and IMO they have come along way in having a cleaner process to get it out. And the river they keep bring up, my undersatanding is was poluted with oil even before the natives got there. Can we trust anything suzuki or may and redford tell us?

No, but its becoming a major one caused by man. And you seem to ignore what happens to that oil eventually.

It seems our emissions have drops from 2% to 1.6% since harper took over.

That's a really bad attempt to provide a cite.
