Topaz Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) A recent poll says most Canadians feel we are in a recession or close to one. I think it depends were you live and how much unemployment your area has. I just think the most of the country in in a unemployment mess. People who have lost their jobs and can't find one, people who are standing in line waiting to be okayed for EI, some waiting for EI in the mail. The provinces in the worst of it are the ones EAST of Manitoba. I'm not sure the unemployment rate is for that province but the rest is high. The only leadership we see coming from Ottawa is EI and for the manufacturing provinces they NEED leadership on both the province and the feds and before some of you say that the feds are helping, the lower corp. taxes don't seem to help workers get jobs when those businesses are NOT hiring in the provinces that have high unemployment. http://www.thestar.com/business/article/1110818--many-canadians-believe-we-re-already-in-recession-survey?bn=1 Edited January 6, 2012 by Topaz Quote

Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Conservatives will deny we are but that's only because they still want to mislead Canadians that they are somehow good stewards when it comes to being fiscally responsible. Working class Canadians however know the truth because they've seen it all too well. The jobs keep being lost and wages are stagnant or being slashed.. Except for the 1% and the rich ceo's... We are most definitely in a recession. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2012/01/06/canada-jobs.html Quote “This is all about who you represent,” Mr. Dewar (NDP) said. “We’re (NDP) talking about representing the interests of working people and everyday Canadians and they [the Conservatives] are about representing the fund managers who come in and fleece our companies and our country. Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) Canada has now recorded six months without significant job gains. And where is Canada's Dear Leader... why he's driving the train... doing nothing except for policies which drive this country straight down south. Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) Good news..... the Chinese will be developing some of Canada's oil sands, employing 84,000 people... Oops wait, nevermind. Thanks to the Harper government's policies..they will be employing 84,000 Chinese and "temp foreign workers" instead.....sorry my bad. Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Which policies drive jobs away? Like not sticking up for Canadian jobs when companies like CAT take the money and run..At least Danny Williams had a set of balls to take a stand against this sort of thing unlike Harper who's lips are sealed, on American ass. Have any of you seen the movie - Inside Job?? I highly recommend it because it illustrates the degree of corruption going on in the US, and how Wall Street basically calls the shots in government. Rocky Road Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Also please see this video on the possibility of a deepening recession. Quote
Shady Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Like not sticking up for Canadian jobs when companies like CAT take the money and run.. And how would one so-called stick up for Canadian jobs in this instance? What would you like to see done? Under which law or authority? Quote
Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 And how would one so-called stick up for Canadian jobs in this instance? What would you like to see done? Under which law or authority? If CAT bails...Seizing of assets would be a good start. And ban them from exporting their products into this country. Time to start protecting our own asses for once. Shady Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 If CAT bails...Seizing of assets would be a good start. Under what authority or law? That's banana republic type talk. Time to start protecting our own asses for once. Once again, it's not "our ass", it's private property. Do you understand the meaning of private property? If you don't understand the concept, or don't agree with it, then perhaps Canada isn't the country for you. Again, perhaps Cuba or Venezuela. They're more in line with your way of thinking. Free trade is was and always will be a failure. This has nothing to do with free trade. I'm beginning to think you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Quote
Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Typical right wing rhetoric... Do nothing but sit idly by and allow the country to be raped. It's like the Mulroney era all over again... Shady Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) Typical right wing rhetoric... Do nothing but sit idly by and allow the country to be raped. It's like the Mulroney era all over again... Good policy there.... Again, please tell me under what law or authority you want the government to seize the assets of this company? Or are you advocating the PM have the power to ignore the law, and ignore the constitution? Enough of the name calling, and the hyperbole. Edited January 6, 2012 by Shady Quote
Rick Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 You do remember Danny Williams right? You equate doing it as a banana republic... I prefer to think of it as 'homeland security'.... bush_cheney2004 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 If CAT bails...Seizing of assets would be a good start. And ban them from exporting their products into this country. This is laughable....where the hell do you think EMD came from ? More than 50% of Canadian heavy industry is owned by foreign corporations. Canada has had to solicit foreign investment and capital for decades. But it has a great banking system! : Time to start protecting our own asses for once. Free trade is was and always will be a failure. Then abrogate NAFTA and close the border...try to sell 75% of exports to....ummm....Greenland instead. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
bush_cheney2004 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Again, please tell me under what law or authority you want the government to seize the assets of this company? Or are you advocating the PM have the power to ignore the law, and ignore the constitution? Uh oh...if that were to happen, other nations would have to reciprocate in kind. Now let's see...what big Canadian based corps could be seized in the US or Mexico....I know I will find one in a minute or two....still googling....one will show up any minute...still looking.... Please state what the definition of a recession is so you can see your error. BTW, Harper has repeatedly warned that 2012 will be a challenging year economically. My advice? If you need a job, go to Regina or Saskatoon, they are at full employment and needing still more workers. I know a woman who worked there for 6 months and then decided to move her family out. Making around 10 grand a month. Quote
