WWWTT
Ok now heres a real odd bit of news. Apparently this Crosbie guy made a speach and said something controversial. I listened to it over several times and I can't make out what this guy is freekin saying! I remember when Stephen Dion was liberal leader the conservatives were attacking him over his ability to speak English. The conservatives even tried to start something with Nycole but I don't think that one went far. Well apparently with their new AG appointment, billingualism in both of Canadas official language doesn't mean much as long as its French you're not good in! OK now after trying to listen to what Crosbie was trying to say man good grief speak English man! Your the freekin LG of Newfoundland don't you think its important that anyone can understand anything that you may have to say? If you can't say it in English then try saying it in French! WWWTT
Thanks for the link Mike! Ya I tried listening to it over again and I give up. It could be an audio problem or maybe he is speaking in a heavy "newfie" accent or a combination of both.Since everybody in the audience is laughing. Either way I give up on trying to make anything from this tape. WWWTT

Shwa
That joke is hilarious! It was an innapropriate and hurtful attempt at humour and completely beneath the office that the man is standing for, especially in a country such as ours. But I did chuckle when I heard it. Wild Bill
Well, I've never had a problem understanding east-coaster accents. When I get drunk or too excited I tend to lose my Ontarioan accent, myself. Some folks just want to slam Crosbie because he's a Tory, nothing more. These folks tend to be politically correct, like most leftwingers. Crosbie grew up in a time when we all actually had a sense of humour! The lefties, not having one themselves, use political correctness as a tool to stamp humour out! Their substitute for humour is high-school level ad hominem crudities against anyone who is non-left. If they succeed, we will live in a very cheerless world. The lefties won't understand this, of course. They will simply be at a loss as to why people in general never smile anymore! After all, the social engineering was done for their own good! Perhaps they'll pass laws making laughing mandatory. Imagine Ned Flanders given absolute power over all his neighbours! Where no joke can be uttered that might offend Rod and Todd! If it ever came to pass, the suicide rate would skyrocket!

No, I think the thing that's most causing offence (though, the offence is still just a bit overblown) is the fact that Crosby cracked this joke in his official role as the Queen's representative, at an official constitutional ceremony, and very much in public. Let the man to his humour (I thought the joke was clever, somewhat funny, if not hilarious; maybe I have to hear it delivered, rather than just reading it, as I've done, so far), but he, at his age, should know when's the appropriate time to let it free and when to rein it in. Even Prince Philip knows not to make his politically incorrect wise-cracks at a podium. [sp] Edited November 4, 2011 by g_bambino

[sp] The man is 80 years old, and due to the time period he grew up in doesn't think of the joke in the same way many do. Stephen Harper knew Crosbie's personality when he appointed him to the job, if he didn't think he was suitable he should have never been appointed. The man is as ignorant as a pig and has been telling offensive jokes for 70 years, he's not going to suddenly stop because he was appointed Lieutenant Governor of a province with a sense of humour. As well Crosbie has been surprisingly well behaved since he was appointed.

I made no criticism of his sense of humour or comment about its consistency or the supposed offensiveness of his jokes, nor did I say he should stop. All I said was he should know when to let it out and when to show some restraint; that he's been observedly more well behaved since his appointment as lieutenant governor may well be a sign that he does know the difference. This is all a bit of a typical Canadian tempest in a teacup, though. I wonder if there's any wafer to go with that tea...

What I'm saying is he doesn't think of that joke as any less inappropriate then the joke he made about Americans getting caught sneaking over the US border into Mexico. PIK
I think it is great, make fun of these people ,laugh at these people, shame them into joining the 21st century. We need to show them how stupid they look in the world's eyes with thier non stop killing and 10th century thinking. Thank you Mr Crosby.
