Boges Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Right now they're only really making news because they're squatting in a public park they're not saying anything we haven't heard by many people already. The weather is about to turn colder - it's expected to drop to -1 C Thursday night, and that could mean Occupy Toronto protestors may soon pack up and go home. At least one city councillor reportedly thinks it's time for the hundreds who are illegally living in St. James park to leave. Deputy mayor Doug Hollyday said the group is occupying the park without a permit, which basically makes them squatters. Hollyday told The Toronto Sun they won't be allowed to stay forever. Meanwhile, there are still a couple hundred tents in the park and there's no sign of the protesters leaving. "(I'll stay) days, weeks, months, however long it takes until we see some progress - material progress that's constructive," Cory, a protester from Oshawa said. The protesters have been in the park for two weeks. Quote

Wow that's an awesome opinion. Harass people at their homes because they don't approve of public squatting. That'll get the public on your side. Quote

Rick Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Yes but people who are ambivalent or even mildly supportive will see those actions and turn against you. The flip side to your assumption of course is that if Hollyday and the right wing get their way and occupiers are forcibly removed, people who are still sitting on the fence will see those actions and join us.Which is what happened in Oakland. If they don't...then they never were going to support the cause. Is this the type of things Occupiers talk about while chilling in that park all day? scribblet Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 IMo it`s time they were given the boot. BubberMiley Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) IMo it`s time they were given the boot. IMO, you would never, ever say that if it were a tea party protest. And if someone on "the Left" said that about a tea party protest, you would wail about the hypocrisy and the attempts to stifle freedom of speech. Shwa Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Public shouldn't be allowed to occupy a PUBLIC space. This is great. Kick the public out of public spaces! It's not 'kick the public out of public spaces" it's more like, kick the 'wrong type' of the public out of public spaces. Recall: these aren't peaceful, law abiding citizens enjoying their rights as citizens of Canada, the are "illegal squatters" on "public land" with unsanitary living conditions. The right kind of public live across the street in the half million dollar condos. Quote

Boges Posted November 4, 2011 Author Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) How about the Mohawk Warriors starting a huge bondfire in the middle of this park. Is that cool? The city of Toronto is so litigious about requiring permits for everything but not requiring one for this. I also like how no one cares about those 99%er businesses around the area, that are no doubt losing business because no one in their right mind would go to this park for a nice leisurely walk. I think it's funny. Linda posted on 11/02/2011 10:55 AMI have decided to start a new social protest movement in light of the success Occupy Toronto. Sign up today for "Occupy A Job"! Our founders believe it's terrible how many people have to live off welfare. Our radical platform calls for people who are unhappy with the treatment they are receiving from social assistance to take back the power and occupy an employed position instead. Join this movement and you will be able to take back money from some of those greedy corporations! Oh sure, they may call it "a salary" or "wages", but those are just words to try and spin the fact that you will be taking money directly from their fat cat corporate bank accounts and using it for whatever you want. And the best part? The police are far less likely to arrest you or bash your skull in because they aren't wise to this radical and subversive movement yet. Oh, that and you get to use an indoor toilet a lot more. Sign up today for "Occupy A Job", and make your contribution! Get your voice heard through YOUR actions! Don't know where to start?
