I think whenever anybody uses that lamest and most unoriginal right-wing debating tactic "the derangement syndrome" as an argument, they would be embarrassed for themselves.

I think derangement sydrome is a perfect description of a thread about Rob Ford and a CBC "comedian" that's gone on for 4 months and 30+ pages!

I'm guessing I was correct on the latter. But you contributed more than anyone, trying to change the subject to McGuinty. I guess when that fails, you criticize the thread's very existence.

Oliver: Now why did you get two tickets to Chicago when you know that I wanted to spend my honeymoon in Saskatchewan?

Yet another 911 call to Ford's house...

And no...I had nothing to do with it.

“This is all about who you represent,” Mr. Dewar (NDP) said. “We’re (NDP) talking about representing the interests of working people and everyday Canadians and they [the Conservatives] are about representing the fund managers who come in and fleece our companies and our country.

So what costs more money for the city? Rob Ford having a security detail or police to keep having to come to his house.

Police have lots of dealings with the Fords. His sister, my classmate, has had enough encounters in her first 30 yrs to last the whole city, including murder.

The point is, when a family has this many dealings w the cops, it is pretty safe to say that it isnt one rogue family member a la Billy Carter

Now....why does Ford have security? Does anyone really think he could be hurt? His largesse serves him well in keeping him free from harm, although I suppose someone could hit him on the head , except that would pose no danger to Mayor Ford.

False alarm...

Turns out it was just another one of the Ford clan who'd lost his composure..

The boyfriend of mayor Rob Ford’s sister has been arrested and charged with two counts of threatening death and forcible entry in connection to an incident at the mayor’s home this morning.

Scott MacIntyre, 45, was arrested this afternoon. He was also charged with possession of cocaine and heroin.

Nice house though... never knew he lived on Edenbridge Drive.. :)

Good job spending of that federal money CBC. Go harass a guy at his home in front of his kid.

You know they do that in the private sector in the US a lot more effectively. It's called TMZ.

As an American I have watched footage of CBC's repeated humiliation of my countrymen.

I would just love to be accosted by some CBC cameraman and asked some dumb question about "President Jean Poutine".

I'm sure many on this Board could imagine the verbal torture I'd inflict, given the number of Canadians who don't know who their Premier is, or who Canada's first PM was. Or what the King/Byng affair was.

I'm also sure the CBC would never air it.

I've said the same thing myself - Rick Mercer could find just as many ignorant Canadians on the issues as he does Americans, while of course Americans who know the answers never make the show. Where would the fun be? The whole point of the segment is to make fun of how stupid Americans are.

I would love the opportunity to make a fool of Mercer and have that aired.

just so long as he doesn't ask you about our flag, hey... that didn't work out quite so well for you recently. In any case, you don't need to rail against Mercer; your Jay Leno quite regularly showcases homegrown American intellectual prowess during his 'Jaywalking' on-the-street interviews.

Its entertainment. Relax. Well, except for those shots of Politicians getting caught up in the foolery.

Only 10% as many, dont forget, the 10% rule applies.

Its one thing to poke fun, poor taste or not , but outright lying about where some terrorists came from to fool the public.....well, just saying .

Truth is , any canuck or yank with half a brain knows there are morons abounding all around us. ****

Where's your asterix about Leno's "Jay Walking" segments?

I've never watched Jay Leno. He has a segment presenting Canadians as stupid?

No, Jaywalking just makes fun of anyone. For example he'll show people a picture of, say Winston Churchill or Osama bin Laden and sees if the person can identify them. Or ask them history questions like "When was the war of 1812".

They usually go to touristy areas so they get a wide cross section of people.

I think the difference here is that Canadians seem to be shocked that most Americans have little regard for us and don't know much about anything outside their borders. Of course people in border towns are different, I doubt Rick Mercer spends much time in border towns for the skit though.

Canadians have the luxury of getting much of their media from the US so we know stuff a lot about both cultures.

Why should Americans care about Canada? I'm surprised there are Americans that post on this board actually.

Asking Americans questions about Canadians is sort of like asking Canadians about Sweden, or the UK or Mexico. Why should the average Canadian care about those countries?

I think sometimes people choke when they're approached like that and come across as more stupid than they actually are. We've all said dumb things at times that we can't believe we said.

I think the difference here is that Canadians seem to be shocked that most Americans have little regard for us and don't know much about anything outside their borders.

I think Americans have a lot of regard for Canadians. Just because they don't know a lot about your politics doesn't mean they don't have a lot of regard for you. I'm sure Americans are very appreiciative of having a neighbor like you. I think Americans do know a fair amount about things outside our border - at least as much as anyone from any other nation does. I think Canadians are the exception in their knowledge about the U.S., but it's because it's been presented to you in the media, like you said. It's not because Canadians have gone on a great quest for knowledge about the U.S.

Of course people in border towns are different, I doubt Rick Mercer spends much time in border towns for the skit though.

This is a good point, and it brings to mind the fact that 80% of Canadians live within the U.S.-Canada border. Not so Americans.

Canadians have the luxury of getting much of their media from the US so we know stuff a lot about both cultures.

I agree, as stated above. The thing is, though, there are plenty of Canadians who are lacking in knowledge of Canada, too. I don't think there's much difference between our nations - we both have our share of the intelligent and the downright stupid - with most people somewhere in between.

Why should Americans care about Canada? I'm surprised there are Americans that post on this board actually.

I started posting on a Canadian board after 9-11. I had great appreciation for Canada, for Canadians - and your help and support meant a lot to me at a difficult time. I've since spent a lot of time in Canada, and have always said that if I had to live somewhere outside the U.S., I would choose Canada.

Asking Americans questions about Canadians is sort of like asking Canadians about Sweden, or the UK or Mexico. Why should the average Canadian care about those countries?

I've said more or less the same thing - whenever I ask Canadians why they care about the U.S. so much the response is that it affects them. So really, they are only interested in it from their personal viewpoint; it's not an interest in the United States per se. As I pointed out above, it's not a deep desire to learn more about the U.S., but more to do with themselves - and as you pointed out, I'm sure Canadians knowledge about Sweden and the UK etc. doesn't compare to the knowledge about the U.S. Furthermore, if we had Canadian programs and political ads playing on our tvs all the time, I'm sure a lot more Americans would be a lot more knowledgeable about Canada. It doesn't take a lot of effort to gain knowledge that way.

The OPP Commissioner says that a statement made by Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair over a controversial 9-1-1 call by Mayor Rob Ford, is accurate.

In October, Ford called 9-1-1 after he was ambushed by CBC 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes,' personality Mary Walsh in her character known as 'Marg Delahunty.'

The CBC caught wind of the 9-1-1 call, from a source who claims that Mayor Ford swore several times, acted belligerently, and called the dispatchers, 'bitches.'

The mayor responded to the CBC story, admitting he swore, but did not call the dispatchers, 'bitches,' and was not derogatory, or belligerent in his language.

Shortly after, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair backed up the mayors story, saying he had listened to the tape, and said the mayor swore once, and never used the term 'bitches.'

In December, the CBC Ombudsman, Kirk LaPointe, investigated the story, after several complaints to the national broadcaster. In his report, he suggested the CBC followed their own standards and practices, and that there was no way to prove the story was false.

So either two high ranking police heads are lying to back up Rob Ford or the CBC went to press with unsubstantiated claims about the 911 call.

...or, the CBC's informant still adamantly swears that Ford swore at them.
