If the LCBO is to much of a trip for me I just go across the street and buy a jug of white wine -which I hate...but it has alcohol in it..it is not the LCBO and might as well be a corner store...If they were honest they would have life saving gin on the shelves as well as all that horrific Canadian wine. I like my grapes fresh not rotten in stuck in a bottle....anyone that says wine or hard alcohol tastes good are nuts - It all taste bad and we all drink the toxin for it's effect and the rest is malarky...Nothing more phoney than someone sipping on wine and saying how wonderful it is - To drink it while having a meal spoils the meal...You are either drinking or eathing - Not both.

For instance if a primative were walking along and found a bottle of wine and a bottle of grape juice - and sampled from both containers...He would spit the wine out in an instance and go with the juice.

We must except the reality that alcohol is a toxin that intoxicates..it is a drug - The question here is do we make drugs more excessable and more convenient...I think if corner stores sell booze - you should be able to pick up a few dexadrine tablets or a ten valiums - and some pot..what the heck - might as well be honest - we are a culture that likes to alter our perception and we live in a constant state of stress.

I figured the subject matter offered the dope heads a "window of opportunity" to blither blather about legalization of weed...

I was right...

It's as much about criminalizing alcohol. Of course you rarely if ever see people like yourself using these windows of opportunity to wax ethically about consistent social and criminal policies towards substance use.

So I'm curious, do you think Canadians that are injured by the actions of drinkers receive equal protection from the law? Apparently this is the intent behind the prohibition of drugs and presumably they're working. So why should booze get such a free pass? What kind of message does that send?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Absolute bullshit. Sure alcohol relaxes you just like tobacco does and if taken in excess you get an altered sense of being.

But if alcohol was no more than a drug and people didn't enjoy the taste then the LCBO would be out of business because people would be drinking Purell.

I was actually skeptical about the quality of different types of whiskey. Until my wife bought be a bottle of single malt rye for by birthday. If you try that then pour a some Crown, Crown tastes like water.

Like everything it's an acquired taste though.

The solution to this article: Make your own alcohol, legally :)

Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Sip Jim Beam White Lable and then splurge for some Woodford Reserve...

I like Beam as an everyday pour but Woodford blows it out of the water!!!

That is simply not true..even a trace of alcohol alters you - it's a case of degree..I can have half a glass of wine and I sense that the toxins has changed something. Purell has other substances in it that would taste bad Jack. .....yah I was pulling your leg - as a kid I loved a good whiskey - Crown for a Canaidan distilate is still a fine whiskey.. Canadian Rye is renouned throught the world - Your wife seems to know your weaknesses and loves...nothing better than someone giving you either cash or fine booze for your birthday.

Back to wine - never really enjoyed it much..because you have to ingest a whole lot of swill to get to the alcohol...It is a pleasure to drink good hard liquior - the taste is good - and the buzz is quick - I find that drinking good hard liquior leaves you in a better state the next day - probably because the other stuff contains other toxins other than alcohol. When I had a steady and disposable income...Having a drink in my chair at my last address - on the porch over looking a wide and perfect lawn - with hundred year old black wallnut trees surrounding the property - I was in heaven and swore that I could talk to God...but...then again talking to God is a good thing - He never interupts or talks back.

Yeha Wine sneaks up on you though. You can drink an entire bottle and not think about it until perhaps it's too late. It's not like a shot of some hard stuff.
