Also, how many people in Westeros know that Gendry's father was King Robert? What proof is there?

Also, based on the legal hoops that Ramsay had to go through to become Roose's heir, Gendry probably wouldn't have a legal claim to the throne even if people did accept that King Robert was his father.

Also, wasn't Gendry with the Brothers Without Banners last time we saw him? There's no reason to think Littlefinger has Gendry in his back pocket to use at a future date.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see him soon, in the Hound's storyline... but I would be astounded if Gendry ever ends up being king.

On a slight tangent... if Tommen gets whacked soon, how likely do you think it is that Margaery will announce that she's pregnant with the King's heir in her belly, and plans to serve as Queen Regent until her unborn son is old enough to take the throne?

Legal hoops? Ramsay? He established his right to be Rooses heir by killing everybody with any kind of claim. Including Roose.

Science too hard for you? Try religion!

They had to get an official letter straight from the King for Ramsay to be legitimized as Roose's heir.

Robert Baratheon didn't legitimize or even acknowledge Gendry. Since, Robert is dead another king would have to grant Gendry the Baratheon name; something I highly doubt Tommen would do.

Posted

Also the Baratheon name doesn't mean a whole lot right now. Tommen is only a Baratheon by name.

Yet it's enough for Tommen to sit on the iron throne. Seems pretty powerful.

And should a bastard of Robert appear attempting to claim the throne, who's going to rally behind him? The Starks?

The Reach due to marriage with Margery, not to mention all the people in Flea Bottom who had their booze taken away by the faith militant.

Plus the Vale + Riverlands + North due to Littlefinger.

Petyr Baelish, the Red Priestess, Davos, Olenna.

What proof is there?

He is black of hair and supposedly looks like his father.

Everyone knows that the queen ordered the killing of Robert's bastards.

The blacksmith can probably testify that people like Jon Arryn and Ned Stark came to visit.

Also, once Tommen dies, succession will become complicated. Someone claiming to be Robert's son with the backing of major houses will seem quite reasonable.

They had to get an official letter straight from the King for Ramsay to be legitimized as Roose's heir.

But there is the official will of Robert Baratheon, which has conveniently ambiguous wording.

That letter no longer exists and a bastard that has not been legitimized is not a rightful heir...which was the ambiguous wording.

Game of Thrones is not your standard tale of a commoner from a sleepy village finding out that they have king's blood and fulfilling their great destiny. Gendry won't be king of anything, and chances are he won't even show up on screen again.

How do you know? Cersei tore it up, but Petyr Baelish was close by. He might have the remains of the will.

The wording was "my heir does come of age.".

Cersei's children are not related to Robert, so can't be heirs.

Stannis was already of age, so the implication of the will is that Stannis was not the heir.

The will implies that Gendry was legitimized, thereby making him an heir who was not of age.

Then where is Gendry?

Why haven't they shown Gendry yet?

Perhaps if they show Gendry, it will be too big of a plot reveal.

Remember his last advice from Davos as he is fleeing Dragonstone?

Davos - Ever been in a boat before?

Gendry - No

Davos - Do you know how to swim?

Gendry - No

Davos - Don't fall out.

Maybe he fell out.

Or maybe he and that ripped physique of his are rowing across the narrow sea and will arrive in time to save Arya. With sails Yara managed to sail around most of the known world in no time at all, so I expect a ripped blacksmith could row across the Narrow Sea pretty quickly.

I posted a link referring to the Baratheon family tree a while ago which traced legitimate heirs. Since, Gendry was never legitimized and there is crossover between the Baratheons and Lannisters, the next legitimate living heir after Tommen is Cersei.

This is an interesting read about the rightful heir to the throne, in the HBO version, should Tommen soon wear a golden shroud as prophesied. He has no heirs and is legally considered a Baratheon. With Stannis, Shireen and Renly all dead and Gendry a bastard, who is next? Oddly enough the Baratheon family tree reveals that Tywin Lannister and Robert shared an ancestor. Tywin is dead, Jamie is a Kingsguard and Tyrion is a convicted murderer thus Cersei is the next in line to the throne. No, it's Jamie.

Now that he's no longer Kingsguard, yes it would be. Long before an un-legitimized bastard. Edited by Guest

Cleganebowl - cancelled, Lady Stoneheart appearance - not happening, Arya Fight Club - Fantasy. Fan theories are just that, unfounded theories. Oh well, awesome episode regardless.

"I am Arya Stark of Winterfell and I'm going home" YES!!!!!!

With the teleportation system we've seen, I wouldn't be shocked to see Arya show up in Winterfell by the end of the season. Even next episode which may be a 100% Snow-Bowl episode, similar to Blackwater or Watchers on the Wall.

Beric and Thoros returning was fun. Not sure what was funnier, them re-uniting with the Hound or Tyrion enabling Grey Work and Missandei's future alcoholism. "That was the worst joke ever".

The whole Riverrun thing had me very anxious as the Lannister army entered the castle to score of Rains of Castamere. Was just waiting for the order given to slaughter every Tully soldier in the castle after Edmure and Jamie made a pact to sell out the Blackfish.

Tommen is the worst! At least Joffery was fun when being evil. Now Tommen has denied us the Mountain pwning some fool in a Trial by combat.

Internet theories have the plan that Qyburn has for the High Sparrow involving Wildfire burning down their High Sparrow Sept.

Where is Varys going? I suspect it's Dorn. NOT DORN!!!???? Wouldn't it have been cool if Yara came by to save Mereen during that Naval siege? Dany looked pissed off!!! In a hot way.

So do we think next week will predictably go down as the Stark army is about to be defeated and saved in the last minute by the Knights of the Vale, Lord of the Rings style. It'll be awesome regardless, but I'd like to see something different.

Posted

The Cleganebowl could still be in the works, eventually.

I expect Yara and company will arrive in Meereen in time to sink some ships and pledge her support to Danaerys.

You're right, Tommen is the worst. He has to go. Fortunately, most don't warm the Iron Throne for too long. At least Cersei and the Mountain are becoming interesting.

The best lines this week: "I choose violence" and "You're shit at dyin'"

I just knew the Sparrow would have an angle to make sure Cersei couldn't use the trial-by-combat to weasel out of her predicament.

I wasn't sure what to expect when the Lannister forces entered Riverrun either, but whatever Jaime said to Edmure must have been extremely compelling. I am personally expecting that Jumping Fish banners will arrive at Winterfell to boost the Stark army considerably.

I liked the scene with Brienne and Jaime... earlier in the series, she was our window into Jaime, the way in which we discovered that he isn't just a douchenozzle but also a guy with some genuine nobility and decency. Everybody else on the show thinks he's a lowlife, but she thinks the world of him. I was hoping she'd kiss him. I also enjoyed Podrick and Bronn reuiniting. It's nice that the writers remembered that they'd spent a whole season hanging around together as Tyrion's companions.

You called it right, Boges, the scene with Arya and the candle proved to be prophetic. I object to the amount of sprinting and leaping she did with her abdominal muscles cut to ribbons. But, whatever. It's not a documentary. Seeing the waif's smug, punchable face on the wall next to all the other faces was satisfying.

Will Yara's fleet sail into the harbor behind the Masters' navy and kill 'em all? How do they even do naval combat in a world without cannons? Whatever the case, we've heard that the Ironborn are unbeatable in naval combat. I expect a bunch of black sails show up in the harbor, Yara says "arrrr!!! They be attackin' our meal-ticket!" and smack the crap out of the Masters in short order. Then, Yara and Theon land in Mereen. Dany will be like "You have defeated our foes, and I owe you many thanks." And Yara is like "arrr! A fiesty pirate wench I be, and I am-- Helloooooo! M'lady... I be here for ye booty, m'lady!" and meanwhile Theon, Grey Worm, and Varys get together and talk about things other than women.

King's Landing to assassinate Kevan Lannister and Pycelle.

What debts does he have to Edmur? I'm actually pretty sure Edmur resents his Tully kin and the Starks for setting him up for this wedding that led to his imprisonment.

I doubt Varys wants to go back to King's Landing. He's probably wanted for his involvement in letting Tyrion escape and the murder of Tywin Lannister. Also his "little birds" have been co-opted by Qyburn.

He said he was looking for friends in Westeros. He probably has heard of the new leaders of Dorne and wants to try and make an alliance with them.

An internet theory (which we know how good those are after last week) is that they found a stockpile of Wildfire. Cersei becomes the Mad Queen.

So, regarding the Mad King, and shouting "Burn them all!" ... I've been thinking, and I'm sure others have been thinking the same, that perhaps didn't go mad, but rather got Hodor'ed. As in, perhaps the command "Burn them all! Burn them all!" is coming from a battle against White Walkers in the future through Bran.

Does this seem possible, or am I mental?

It's a theory I've heard. But why would Bran do that? And what about being haunted would make you want to kill everyone in the city? He was also desperate because he had just lost the war and faced imminent death.
