So many of these Episodes end with Dany just doing something cool with dragon but not really doing anything at all. At the pace this show is moving, will Euron and his ships already be there waiting for Dany and Dario once they arrive back at Mereen?

Yara and Theon and pals just sailed off with the entire Ironborn fleet of mostly empty ships. Where are they headed? To pick up Dany and her expanded army of Dothraki, Unsullied and others?

So the theory I'm seeing on the Interwebs is that Dany is actually going to be a huge heel going forward.

Song of Ice and Fire. The White Walkers from the North and the Crazy Absolutist Blonde Lady with Dragons from the South.

It's possible.

I was thinking it would be very GoT-ish if things worked out to a happy ending in King's Landing-- a fair new King, a more just society, Mountain slain, Cersei banished or executed, and so on... just in time for all of it to be crushed under Dany's heel as she arrives to Bring Freedom ™ to Westeros.

Soooo... Margaery, is she brainwashed by the Sparrow, or is it an act? This might be a huge power move that makes Margaery the real power in King's Landing. It gives her a way to get Cersei, Jaime, and the other Lannisters out of Tommen's life. She knows she can wrap Tommen around her finger. It gives her powerful allies, provided she maintains a good relationship with the Sparrow. She might have just pulled off one of the best stratagems we've ever seen on this show.

I suspect you're right about it being an act. I think Margaery acknowledges the High Sparrow as a masterful politician and sees this situation as a way to end Ceresi's control of Tommen. After all, she is an expert at hitching her wagon to the winning horse. I loved the little smirk the Sparrow let slip when he outplayed Jaime on the steps of the Sept.

Two more episodes and then we'll finally have the "Battle of Bastards" in show 9! I'd really like to see the Jon and Sansa show move along.

The pace of the story is going on at an accelerated pace. Jon doesn't have a formidable army yet. Assuming the Knights of the Vale don't get called in, but I suspect they will get involved.

Jamie Lannister getting involved in the Tully v Frey Riverrun battle may put a wrench in the plans to use the Tully army. Brienne and Jamie are probably going to meet again before the end of the season and that'll be interesting for sure.

That is what I said in post 675. The story is not culminating with who gets the Iron Throne. The Big Battle for the whole enchilada is Everybody vs the White Walkers. This series started with 'Winter is Coming', and it will end with an apocalyptic battle.

Brienne and Jamie are probably going to meet again before the end of the season and that'll be interesting for sure.

Before that, Brienne and Tormund the Redhead Wildling leader are going to meet behind closed doors to exchange some bodily fluids. He was giving her a wink last episode......

Was listening to this Podcast on the last episode.

http://www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/game-of-thrones/255851/game-of-thrones-you-still-know-nothing-blood-of-my-blood-podcast

I think a more predictable option is that Song of Ice and Fire is The Starks vs The Targaryens again.

You could see a scenario, after the Starks have taken back the North with help from the Vale and the Riverlands and where Daenerys, who's aligned herself Yara Greyjoy and Women ruling Dorne fight for the 7 Kingdoms.

Wouldn't it be cool to see Bran steal a dragon by Warging into it?

So the real battle, the end game with the epic threat of the White Walkers, is another series?

Or a threat that can be dealt with by the North? How does the White Walker Army cross the wall? Can they be defeated using some power that Bran has?

The Podcast also speculates that the Wall has magic keeping White Walkers and Wights North? They clearly have no trouble travelling the north, they were at the Wirewood tree in a half hour after they knew where it was. Why haven't they tried to attack the wall yet? As they make themselves more apparently the chances are more likely that it'll be better defended when they do attack.

Whereas Dany has 3 large armies, a likely alliance with at least two other kingdoms and Dragons. She could be the bigger threat to peace as she's not terribly interested in ruling anymore.

I actually fear for Tyrion's fate now.

The Walkers have been gathering strength and increasing numbers for a few years of GOT, and are getting more prominent in the plot as time goes on.

I think it will take dragon fire and Bran- magic and all the combined Valerian steel in Westeros to off them.

I don't see them having trouble climbing the wall. They fell off cliffs, and scuttled like cockroaches in previous attacks.

Science too hard for you? Try religion!

But there must be a reason they aren't attacking. They've pretty much forced all the Wildlings to either leave or become Wights. There is no united front against them right now. Once Jon beats Ramsay for Winterfell, you'd think the North, Vale and Riverlands would be all fighting under the same banner, And that's when they choose to attack?

Posted

Like nearly everybody else in this serpentine plot, they are gathering strength.

I don't think the Walkers know or care about who wins or loses Winterfell. All of those warriors are future Walkers. They currently have an unbeatable lineup of agile zombies. Every enemy they kill joins them. Their own troops are nearly immortal.

And from Episode One, Winter Is Coming.

But there must be a reason they aren't attacking.

I suspect their first priority was the Children of the Forest and the Three Eyed Raven. Thanks to Bran they've made some progress there.

Posted (edited)

and they did already have a major battle, and have either killed and thereby recruited many Wildling warriors in that battle in the port when Jon Snow and Tormund effected a partial rescue.

It was a double win for the Walkers, they killed and kept a lot of Wildings, and those who escaped were largely women and children. That burdens the remaining warriors by impairing their fighting capacity.

They drove an old and tough enemy completely out.

Maybe they have to wait for winter before they march south?

OMG The Hound is back!!!!!

Why couldn't Ian McShae's Brother Ray become the Sparrow? What a pleasant humble born again Christian type. This show does parable's of modern religion very well. You have the friendly pacifists that are church building in the wilderness then you have a pope type that's spreading legalism in the capital. Then a few members of another religion coming by and killing the pacifists.

Of course the return of the Hound being a follower of the 7 leaves the idea of the Clegane Bowl pretty likely. The 7 will use Sandor as the opponent to Cersei's Frankenmountain in the Trial by Combat.

Arya? REALLY!!!!???? Dafuq were you thinking just looking out at a bridge without watching your back. You almost deserve to die for that kind of carelessness.

Stark doesn't carry as much sway as it used to eh? Sansa has to crawl back to Littlefinger for help.

Who do we cheer for? The Blackfish or Jamie and Bronn? We're kind of obligated to cheer for the Blackfish cuz he's loyal to the good guys. . . I think. But Jamie and Bronn are so cool right? And the Frey's suck.

Yara has good taste in women. Kind of mean to take Theon there though. I wonder if we'll see Yara and Dany together this season. Theon and Tyrion have met, that'll be interesting.

"OMG the Hound is back!!!" is the exact words Shady posted in his status update on the front page that I deleted, thereby inadvertently causing World War 3 in the Moderating the Moderators thread. I think the reveal was done beautifully, and if I didn't already know who it was I would have been on the edge of my seat saying "could it be... is it? is it? OMG, it could be! OMG! YES! YES!" Instead my reaction was considerably more subdued. But I am still glad to have the big lug back. I love that guy.

I really liked the scenes with Sandor and Ian McShane (didn't catch his character's name, if he even had one.) It seemed like he was really touched when the preacher talked about the terrible things he'd done and trying to spread a little goodness. I almost expected the big man to cry. I could feel his sense of purpose radiating from my TV when he picked up the axe at the end.

Yara has good taste in women. Kind of mean to take Theon there though. I wonder if we'll see Yara and Dany together this season. Theon and Tyrion have met, that'll be interesting.

Yara really likes to party!

I think like old Jaime would take the castle back without a second thought for the thousands of men he'd lose in the effort. I feel like maybe new Jaime, who's had his hand and his daughter ripped away from him, just doesn't have his heart in this. I have to think he will find a different way.

Those wounds Arya suffered look pretty fatal... the kind you would need supernatural help to recover from. I wonder how she'll get out of this?

The other big development was Margiaery and Olenna. For most of the scene I was convinced that yeah, wow, Margie really is brainwashed. Olenna's face when she opened the note was priceless, as was the verbal beatdown she gave Cersei.

I missed the funniest part of the episode.

Bron and Jamie are going up to Riverrun, neither are thrilled about it. They see how incompetent the Frey's are. Jamie promises wealth to Bron and stuff and he says.

"A Lannister always pay. . ."

Bron stops him and says "Don't Effin say it!" And rides off.

I don't know why I loved that so much, but it was awesome.

It's good to have Bron back; he is one of the most enjoyable characters.

The Battle Of The Bastards followed by the Clegane-Bowl, I can't wait! I wonder if Arya's apparent injuries are really some theatrics learned while spending a few days with the acting troop. It was also nice to see that Margaery and her grandmother are still in the game.

I thought the blood was a special effect initially and she had armour underneath to protect her. It's possible I suppose but they included her walking down the streets dripping blood in obvious pain.

I'm hearing theories that Gendry will show up to save her. The preview apparently has a frozen image that appears to be Gendry.

I don't think it's likely. There was no evidence that he became a follower of the 7, or that he is going to King's Landing, and with the preacher dead I don't see how he would be able to get there alive given that there is probably a ransom on him.

More likely, he is going to get revenge on the brotherhood without banners and go around the riverlands attacking bandits or something.

Probably, someone like Lancel will face the mountain in trial by combat, and then lose.

I think Loras will also demand trial by combat, and will likely win.

In the books Sandor comes back as "The Grave Digger". He's given sanctuary by The 7.

Similar to this story line. But no revenge angle. You think Brother Ray didn't tell anyone else that he was with Sandor Clegane? He knew who he was.

I'm sure he has sympathy for the religion and an avenue to fight his brother and get Cersei killed would be an appealing option.

If he does exact revenge against the Brotherhood, where would he turn? Obviously the people from the religion that saved him and who now control King's Landing.

Why would Loras fight for the 7? He's been imprisioned by them.

Lancel isn't a fighter. In previous seasons he was portrayed as a feckless figure.
