Harper's Sins

Recommended Posts

Here is a handy summary of Harper's sins, adapted by C. Davis from a list apparently compiled by Frances Ricks, Ph.D.:

Mr. Harper....

- Breached his own fixed election laws

-Taxed income trusts despite a pre-election promise not to tax them

- Didn't answer the allegations he bribed Chuck Cadman to vote with the harper party

- Produced a guide to disrupting parliamentary committees

- Several of his ministers have misled parliament (Clements, MacKay and Oda)

- Prorogued parliament twice to avoid defeat in the House

- Found in contempt of parliament 3 times

- Muzzled his ministers and MPs

- Sacked or forced resignation of public servants who tried to do their jobs rather than kowtowing to him (e.g. Linda Keen for insisting on safety standards at Chalk River, Munir Sheikh of Stats Can, many others)

- Cancelled the long form census which provides vital data to businesses and others, spending more of our money to do so

- Leads the most secretive government in Canadian history

- After inheriting a surplus, created the largest deficit in our country`s history

- Continues to claim credit for "strong economy" whose strength actually comes from Liberal surplus and Liberal refusal to gut banking regulations (Harper supported deregulation)

- Insisted there was no economic crisis, took action only under intense pressure from opposition, media

- Spent $1.2 billion on G-8, including fake lake while his police brutally assaulted peaceful demonstrators and observers, including women and an aging civil servant

- Wants to spend $10 billion on prisons for unreported criminals, although crime rate continues its long decline

- Wants to spend $18 – 30 billion on planes that have yet to be built, and no case made for why we need them

- Spent $100 million advertising what a wonderful a leader he is, and thereby bought much support from the media

- Has ignored climate change and earned Canada more environmental "fossil" awards than any prior Prime Minister

- Has tarnished Canada's international reputation to the extent that we were denied a seat on the UN Security Council

- Persistently concealed information about the abuse of Afghan detainees

- By losing the rights to use Camp Mirage, endangered our troops and and cost $300 million

- Bribed two provinces to bring in the Harper Sales Tax against the wishes of the people

- Gave a standing ovation to a minister who misled parliament and forged a document

- Appointed two senators who had 67 forged invoices, falsely claiming tax rebates for election expenses.

- His staff is being investigated by police about 3 separate incidents

- Is a control freak who has constantly demonstrated his contempt for parliament and the 2/3 of Canadians who have voted against him. If he were to get a majority he would act to gut health care, the CBC and other quintessential Canadian institutions - as he already has the census.

Vote anybody but Harper

PhD in psychology...a retired child and youth care worker.

Not that it makes her opinion any less valid... but trumpeting her PhD as if it made her an expert on political matters is a little shady.

Fair enough...

But some of that is opinion...Alot of it is simply fact...

Killing the messenger does'nt change it...

The mention of her PhD struck me as a rather misguided attempt to portray her as an authority.

Much like how the Truthies turned James Fetzer into a "professor of theoretical physics" and Barbara Honegger into a "Pentagon Colonel".

Yeah, but it's all picayune stuff. If after five years in office the worst you can say about the guy is he's arrogant, well...

I agree, however, you're still trying to dismiss this through the messenger not being an "authority"...

And,admittedly,She does seem to line up on more than a few Leftist issues in this country....

That does'nt mean that on the serious issues that, quite frankly are'nt really ideologicaly based, she is not incorrect in her assessment...

That's not what I got...

Some of it is the typical NDPish bugaboo's...

Frankly, some of it is right on the money, and the arrogance factor was the least of those issues...

I don't dismiss any of it.

All of it is long standing leftie gripery that we've all discussed many times before. None of it is new.

So, thanks to Frances Ricks, PhD, for coming up with a list to remind us what the lefties have been complaining about, but really... so what?

By the way, my friend is making a list of reasons why Michael Ignatieff creeps her out, and you guys should probably listen to her, because she has a Masters degree (in chemistry.)

Kill the messenger on ideological grounds...Pay no attention...

Don't worry...SunTV will be here very shortly so won't have to deal with those pesky leftist ideologues...

How's this even a topic, Jack? What, aside from Ruth Grumley's PhD makes this any different from any of the dozens of other times the lefties have brought up this laundry list? Is there anything in this laundry list that is new or deserving of its own thread? Or is the fact that it was presented by "Ruth Grumley, PhD~~!" the reason this is a new thread?

Is there anything on this list that you'd actually like to have us discuss? Pick anything on the list, and I can direct you to an existing MLW thread on the topic. You want to talk about the substance of the complaints rather than Ruthie's PhD? Have at it!

Remember last summer when The Professor put up some meaningless thread about California and i said..

"Who cares!"...

And what was your response??

If I recall,It was something along the lines of...

"Some of us think it's important and if you don't like it maybe you should not bothering to answer!"...Or something like that???

Your response form last summer applies to this thread as it relates to your position...

We get it!!!

You're an ideological conservative and you feel that any discussion about the questionable things about Mr. Harper have already been discussed and there is no reason to discuss it further...

Furthermore, you seem to want to kill the message because the woman is not a PoliSci professor and that everything she says is some sort of leftist rant...

We get it...You're not interested!!!

Please move along...

Aww, does Jack not like the taste of his own medicine? You're the king of attacking the messenger and not the message!

Stop being a whiny baby about it.

It's good to see you actually have a position on anything relating to Canadian politics,Yankee Doodle Wannabe...

No kidding. Harper wins fossil awards because he doesn't support putting billions towards a kyoto plan that wouldn't do anything for the environment. He should get a "not a moron award" for that.

Most secretive government of all time? Is that a joke? The Chretien government will that along with the title of "the most corrupt government of all time."

Yes, there are few facts, some of them are not sins but good for Canada.

Mostly it is a collection of lies, gossips at best (you call them "opinions"). There is even repetion(s).

Ok, this is a great start. Do you have anything to actually say about them?

 Figured about as much.

Let's face it: this thread isn't an attempt to create a discussion, it's a chain-letter that's been cross-posted all over the internet. Normally this would be a clear violation of the forum rules, but in this case I think an exception should be made because it's sourced to Flo Goldberg, PhD~~!.

I think Jack's more interested in his own slogans, which he can repeat over and over, using emoticons and exclamation marks. It's his way of participating in discussions.
