The Anti-Semitic group that was supposed to be banned from the group should have been banned.

What anti-semetic group? Surely not QUAIA, a group whose message the city concedes is not discriminatory.

The Pride Parade lied to city council's face last year and allowed them to march.

Showing up at a parade is NOT part of his work. Mayor Ford has accomplished more in six months than any other mayor has in their full term. He works extremely hard!

The political debate over the participation of the activist group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in the Pride festival will continue even though the group unexpectedly announced Friday morning that it will not march in this year's parade.

The chief executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, a prominent opponent of QuAIA, said after the QuAIA announcement that he considers the matter “closed.” But Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti said he will put forth a motion at council’s executive committee on Wednesday making Pride funding contingent on receiving a letter from the organization guaranteeing to the city that QuAIA will not participate.

The letter, Mammoliti said, must say that Pride will “enforce” QuAIA’s exclusion, not simply confirm that Pride has received notice of QuAIA’s intention to exclude itself.

“If they’re prepared to write that letter, then they’ll get their cheque, the way they get it every year. . . if not, then we can’t do it, because we’re not going to sit around and do this debate every year, wonder whether or not this group is going to participate,” Mammoliti said.

Pride’s co-chair, Francisco Alvarez, said the organization could not write such a letter. The decision about QuAIA’s participation, he said, will be made through Pride’s new dispute-resolution process, not by the board of directors.

Funding was never suspended.

Last year they promised not to allow the group attend. They were given the money and then they were allowed to attend anyway.

As far as I'm aware, Pride made no such promises last year. Please provide some proof to the contrary.

And regarding Ford's weight. You can say it's a choice to be that fat, fine. It looks sketchy. Ford is the first mayor in almost 20 years to bail on Pride. He ducked the official opening at City Hall because he was busy getting a tour of the ACC. It'd be simple enough for him to put in a token appearance somewhere along the way at an event that brings millions of dollars into Toronto's economy, but he continues to avoid it which certainly doesn't dispel any perceptions regarding his views on homosexuals.

Charges that Ford is being homophobic are absurd.

In the end, Ford did not try to rescind the $123,807-grant the city will give to the Pride festival this year, nor did he attempt to veto the $200,000 worth of “in kind” services the city provides for Pride such as policing, permitting and garbage clean-up.

This year’s grant is simply conditional on Pride and Queers Against Israeli Apartheid honouring their word QuAIA will not participate in Pride events, because of council’s legitimate concern QuAIA promotes hatred against Jews, which has no place at any city-funded event.

Last year, Pride organizers reneged on keeping QuAIA out of the parade shortly after they got their grant.

For that reason alone, Ford is wise to steer clear of the parade this year, until its organizers show they are capable of keeping their word, at which point they will get their money.

TORONTO - A new Toronto anti-Israeli group of queers vows to join the Dyke March Saturday, Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti warned Friday.

And he promised to film the event as evidence for city council, which will debate 2011 grants to Pride, whose organizers were warned to bar another anti-Israel group from its big wrap-up parade Sunday.

On its Facebook site, Dykes and Trans People for Palestine boasts it wants to show solidarity with Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QuAIA).

Participation by QuAIA, which promised not to join this year’s parade — after several councillors and the Jewish community objected — is unacceptable, Mammoliti told The Toronto Sun.

In late May, Mayor Rob Ford’s executive committee voted to receive city manager Joe Pennachetti’s report ruling the term “Israeli Apartheid” doesn’t violate city’s anti-discrimination policy.

But Pride Toronto co-chairman Francisco Alvarez promised volunteers would ask any non-registered group to leave if they gate-crash the July 3 parade.

Oleg one of my dog's is for sure a lesbian and most certaintly a dyke and not a lip stick lesbian. She is extremely muscular cuz she's a terrier.
