Since the Ontario Tories came out and said they would reduce the price of beer the Liberals have come out with their offerings of relax drinking law at special events. I'm not sure this could be a good idea because there are people out there that can't handle their drinking. The last time our area had a tent with drinking was many years ago and it was stopped because some guy got into an arguement with another guy and he pulled a knife on him and stabbed him. There's also the problem of under age drinking unless the events hires many security to check on who is drinking. There's also the event would be held libel if someone got into a accident driving drunk. Lastly, has our provincial politics hit bottom when the leaders are using drinking laws to win elections? http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110223/OTT_Ont_Liquor_110223/

I for one hope that this isn't the defining issue of the election. Costs are rising everywhere and the Ontario government seems to be addressing that problem with more user fees and taxes.

Now we can stagger about with beers...It's not a bad thing - might even be cheery...but one thing has to be done - only cans and cups allowed - nothing worse than some 19 or 91 year old falling on a broken glass bottle...what the heck...people need a drink to connect - we are so up tight and shy in Canada...and besides - they girls and guys might start getting lucky again ...wonder if the beer googles will come in the six pack?

I can't see it taking over, it's pretty small potatoes stuff. It's good news if they follow througj. I was pretty surprised to learn just how backwards Ontario's liquor laws were when I moved here (though they are 1000X better than Vancouver's bevy of anti-fun policies).

This is long overdue. Penning adults like sheep in order to have a beer is insulting. I like how as soon as alcohol is involved in public people automatically start saying that people will drive drunk and start fights, etc.

Anyone who's been to a tailgate in the US knows that this just isn't the case. Personal responsibility should rule the day. People who drink and drive will do so no matter what, letting people walk around a fair with a beer won't change that.

Ontario’s Parent-in-Chief has done it again. Premier Dalton McGuinty, when announcing a measure to make Ontarians more “free”, was somehow able to sound more paternalistic than ever. After his government unveiled a series of minor tweaks to alcohol laws in Ontario, meaning it might soon be legal to carry an alcoholic beverage outside a tent at a festival, McGuinty said,“We’re just kind of growing up a little bit as Ontarians, and we bring a more progressive and enlightened approach with respect to the use of alcohol.” Well, shucks, dad, thanks. Glad to know you feel that Ontario’s 13 million people, many of whom will be retiring soon, are finally growing up. The grandkids will be impressed.

Backing up the Premier, Attorney General Chris Bentley, who has been mentioned as a possible future Premier Dad, said: “We’ve heard from Ontarians and they are ready for more freedom. Hearing from the public is essential. We’ll have a website, an email address and we’ll travel to different parts of the province for these.” That’s right, people of Ontario. The McGuinty government is such a firm believer in the freedom of individual citizens — now that we’re ready for it — that they’ve set up an email address that we can use. What is it, [email protected]?

---

Government Freedom Division: “Drink responsibly. If you get pulled over and have a blood alcohol reading of more than .05%, we’ll impound your car.”

Citizen: “But, wait. I thought the legal limit was .08%?”

Government Freedom Division: “That’s the legal limit, yes. But we punish you before that by fining you, suspending your licence and making sure your insurance company finds out about it so that your rates go up.”

Citizen: “Wow, OK. I’ll be sure not to ever have a glass of wine four hours before driving, then.”

Government Freedom Division: “Good. Also make sure that you’re not talking on a handheld cellphone or texting. We banned that recently, too. It’s a $155 fine.”

Citizen: “Oh, I’d never do that, I often have my kids in the back.”

Government Freedom Division: “If you smoke in your car while the kids are in the back, we’ll know about it. And we’ll find you.”

Citizen: “I’d never do that. I’ve been trying to quit for a while.”

Government Freedom Division: “We know. That’s why we ordered convenience store owners to cover up the cigarette displays in their stores. To help you quit.”

Citizen: “Actually, I think it’s more the addiction to nicotine than the brightly coloured boxes.”

---

Government Freedom Division: “Tim Hudak is a Mike Harris clone.”

Citizen: “Pardon?”

Government: “Rocco Rossi used to be a Liberal. Premier McGuinty has a family. Remember Walkerton.”

Citizen: *logoff*

FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!...coming soon to Ontario.

Also interesting is how when Hudak mentioned making beer more affordable Premier Dalton said that it wasn't an important issue. A week later he makes his own beer promise speech...lol. I guess it was important indeed.

They need to discuss allowing the sale of beer and wine in corner stores and farmers markets.
