Shwa Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 do you mean like in the last 12 hours? OK. Last night they had their oxymoronic "Best of The Current" feature on CBC AM. Whatshername the hostess was interviewing a gent who was making some very serious, potentially libelous allegations about everybody surrounding CIDA management, Bev Oda, Harper and the Cabinet. His main point was that CIDA bureaucrats provided Minister Oda with professional advice, which she ultimately ignored. His role, his main job? He is head of the union that represents many of the policy analysts at CIDA and elsewhere. By turning down the $7 million grant money, Oda would probably cause a little flicjker in the twp or three staffers(and union members) assigned to the Kairos projects. The interviewer threw softball questions at him, he spewed selfserving rubbish with no real attempt at all for any obhjectivity from either. His mere presence in that chair was a f***ing joke, a joke for which you and I pay $1 billion per year. Misinformation, cloaked in serious journalism and utterly pathetic if were not so expensive. And no doubt eaten whole by some. To parapharse, asking a union exec about business matters that affect his membership is like asking a chicken to vote for Colonel Sanders. So what was the "misinformation" part? Quote
myata Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I'm really fed up.. but .. is there an alternative? Any alternative? Looks like the answer is NO. We're screwed either way i.e choice (of the two meaningless ones, democratically available to us.. sigh.. why couldn't they figure it out there in Egypt?! Mubarak on one poll, some sort of "Kubarak" on the other.. between the two all bases are covered keeping everybody happy). Time to go back to sleep. Quote If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant
Shakeyhands Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 So what was the "misinformation" part? There was none. Allow him his faux outrage. Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
fellowtraveller Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 The misinformation was presenting his extraordinarily biased and selfserving opinion about who makes political policy decisions as some sort of factual information. His abiding concern was not that Oda had lied to the Commons, it was that she had the temerity to not do what she was told to do by CIDA apparatchiks. All this baloney went unchallenged by The Current 'journalist'. His very presence was a lie, and so was hers as it turned out. Typical CBC News conduct, in short. Quote The government should do something.
Scotty Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 The GST was Biggest CONSERVATIVE tax Increase in Canadian History!!! Mulroney had a Decade of Properity and ran the Highest Deficit in Canadian history, UNTIL NOW! The GST was not a tax increase, as such. It replaced the manufacturers tax, which was hidden. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
eyeball Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 I'm really fed up.. but .. is there an alternative? Any alternative? I wonder how long it would take to sue a country for a divorce so a person could become a citizen of Earth? I realize I'm inviting the suggestion I should get out if I don't like it here but I'd probably be apt to counter that by saying no you should get your stupid country off my planet. Well, let's take a look at what you are saying: The misinformation was presenting his extraordinarily biased and selfserving opinion about who makes political policy decisions as some sort of factual information. So were you misinformed that his opinion was fact? It doesn't appear to be that way. Are you aware of others - some sort of poor innocent majority - that had mistaken his opinion for fact? Or was it just opinion, presented as opinion, and nothing more. Methinks you doth protest too much. Quote
kimmy Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Speaking of "Harperites", has anyone noticed that the Tory talking heads have begun consistently referring to 'The Harper government', not the Conservative government, the government of Canada, the federal government, the 'new Conservative government' or any of the thousand other more likely permutations? Funny... seems to me that the lefties were calling them "the Harper government" way back when the Conservatives were still calling themselves "Canada's new government". I recall the Rabblers referring to the Conservatives as "the Harpocons" long before he even became Prime Minister, in fact. (they also called Conservative supporters "Harper Harpies", back then.) Why? My guess is that they felt the best way to fight the Conservatives was to remind them about the horrible, horrible man at the helm. Effective strategy that turned out to be. If the Conservatives have decided that focusing attention on their leader is a winning strategy for them, it's probably because they're entirely comfortable pitting Harper's popularity against Michael Ignatieff, Jack Layton, and whats-her-name and the separatiste. The media have been referring to "the Harper government" ever since he was elected, and as Bambino points out, that's not anything new either. When the New Democrats plaster Action Jack's face all over their website, advertising, and posters, is that an attempt to create some sort of cult of personality around him? Or is it just the realization that (sad as it is) Layton's personal popularity is the only thing their party has going for it? When the Liberals went to the polls with slogans like Paul Martin Time and Team Martin was that an attempt to create a "dear leader" mentality, or was that an attempt to cash in on what they believed was a popular leader (or at least persuade people that Chretien and his buddies were no longer in charge)? (The last time the Liberals went to the polls, instead of putting Mr Dion front and center they opted to focus on, as he called it, "de Green Shit". The decision to focus on the Green Shift rather than Dion was partly because they knew that lots of Canadians liked the idea of environmentally friendly policies, and partly because they knew that the prospect of Stephane Dion being Prime Minister would inspire a range of emotions ranging from faint nausea to sheer panic.) -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
kimmy Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 (edited) ? My apologies. It appears that "Paul Martin Time" was a parody of the Liberals' "Paul Martin Times" campaign news site. Point stands, however. -k Edited February 20, 2011 by kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Jack Weber Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Do I also have to pay $1 billion per year for the privilege of being misinformed, like by the CBC, or is that free too?
