Raising the US debt ceiling

Do tax cuts truly stimulate?

If 10 years of tax cuts are supposed to stimulate the economy and create jobs, where is that economy and where are those jobs?

A.Bruce Bartlett :

The Bush tax cuts were economically worthless.

I'll tell you what that last jobs report Shady likes to reference. ALL THE JOB LOSSES were in the public sector due to spending cuts. Shady likes to have his cake and eat it to but in the end the Republican congress got swept in on JOBS JOBS JOBS and now they yelling cuts cuts cuts. When you cut people get fired so don't start yell me about jobs reports because those reports were growing jobs until the Republicans were swept in.

FORTY MILLION AMERICANS ARE UNEMPLOYED. FIVE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS COMPETE PER JOB. MANY AMERICANS ARE UNDEREMPLOYED RELATIVE TO THEIR QUALIFICATIONS.

I know Americans who choose to be underemployed relative to their qualifications because it's a better fit with their lifestyle - with raising a family. Statistics alone don't always tell the whole story.

What the statistics clearly show is that there are growing inequities in American society and the middle class and the poor are bearing the brunt of the excesses of the neoliberal model currently in place.

American society has always had "inequities"...always will. We don't pretend otherwise. So why would you in Canada?

You don't know your American history very well when you suggest American society has always had inequities.

Much of the financial resources of the rich go offshore where the wealthy can avoid paying taxes.

Sorry, but America wouldn't even exist without such economic and social dynamics. If you think Canada is an egalitarian utopia, you would also be mistaken.

Yes...we call that investment, like the billions in American capital that went to Canadian petroleum and tar sands development!

You are an apologist for the wealthy and I have noticed your tendency to deflect and obfuscate.

Good....it's our choice either way, no? Would you fancy me telling you how to run your fiscal affairs?

Or are you worried that permanent mediocrity in Manitoba would be impacted by the US economy...hmmmmmm?

My fiscal affairs are none of your business.

No...I am just toying with you. Watch the show all you want...but you don't have any say in the matter. Look at the bright side...at least it's not winter in Winnipeg! ;)

Winnipeg has warm and sunny summers and this year is no different.

Do tax cuts truly stimulate?

Of course low taxes is good for economic growth.

If 10 years of tax cuts are supposed to stimulate the economy and create jobs, where is that economy and where are those jobs?

The recession and job losses had nothing to do with tax rates. They had to do with socialist government policy that led to banks and lenders giving money to people for homes that couldn't pay it back, and in some cases didn't even have a job. All under the guise of "fairness."

The housing crisis led to the recession, and is still causing economic problems. That and Obama's anti-business policies.

Yah still doesn't explain why over 8 years Bush's tax cuts created 10% of the jobs Clintons tax hikes created does it? Clinton increased taxes and he created 23 MILLION jobs while Bush cut them and left with only 2.5 Million more jobs. Not to mention if he was in power for another 5 months he would have left with a record of creating 0 jobs.
