Nixon "shock" happened in 1971...West Germany and Switzerland didn't seem to be bound to the agreement either. The United States acted in its own interest, just like any other nation.

You are conflating two seperate events.

Great post. His mindset is the usual mindset of a statist. He has no clue about how business and economies work and are expanded. He doesn't understand that government jobs are paid for by the private sector. So he thinks that's actually real job creation and economic growth. It's a huge failure of our education system for not teaching proper economics.

That school system you are referring to seems to have failed you.

Complete nonsense. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Perhaps you can soon post in this forum without feeling the need to directly insult people. :)

I don't consider my statement as an insult. It is more an observation than an insult.

Well, you might want to address issues, instead of constantly repeating said observation over and over. Just a bit of advice. :)

Shall we go through your post history?

My issue is your lack of understanding of the fundamentals of economics.

We have already been over this...Nixon's actions were in direct response to European moves that unilaterally abandoned Bretton Woods. Nixon owed the "world" nothing.

Then what is the point of this game? Did Nixon owe you some gold from Fort Knox?

Those actions were a response to a run on gold. What the US "owed" the world was conversion from US paper to gold (within 5%). It had gotten itself into a position where that was not possible.

Then what is the point of this game?

There is no game. Just you not knowing the meanings of words.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

Nope..there was a broader context and dollar devaluation in play. The US no longer "owed" anything once the decision was made to abandon the gold standard. Redeeming gold was still possible, but not desired.

Hahahahaha Republicans came out today to say the debt limit isn't their problem. Why would anyone vote for these dummies they don't even want to have a part in negotiation and now just want the president to come up with a solution unilaterally. Wow just says it all.

Treasury is part of the Executive branch...not Congress. Treasury Sec'y is responsible for managing the public debt.

Don't worry looks like the Republicans are caving. McConnell just said they could raise the debt ceiling with out revenue increases or program cuts because Republicans are really just grand standing. Shady you better fall in line because it will be sucky if they blink for you after spending this whole thread talking about how spending MUST HAPPEN.

It is Obama's problem. He's know what the debt limit is for the last 3 years, but he decided to blow right through the ceiling. It's almost as bad as the Democrats in congress refusing to release a budget last year. The first time that's happened in like 30+ years.

You are far behind the times Shady the Republicans are caving and saying they just might raise it because they are grand standing anyway. Better get up to date on your talking points Shady you are looking silly again.

Fortunatle, McConnell isn't speaker or whip in the house. He has no say.

Yah he isn't a part of the Republican leadership Shady. He doesn't speak for them like you do right? He is just the second most powerful Republican in the country. Jesus you make me laugh.

BTW when the media runs with the message that the Top Senate republicans basically says they are just grandstanding where do you think public opinion goes?

You're hilarious! Once again, McConnell has zero legislative power in the house according to the constitution. He can speak on behalf of himself, and like-minded Republicans in the SENATE.

I get it even top Republicans think the house is just Grandstanding. Message is clear Shady you better fall in line or else you will look silly when it happens.

They must have seen the poll numbers going south, thought they won enough political points and now want to move on. Sounds like a true blue Republican to me.

Details on the deal are coming out and they are the silliest thing I have ever seen. Basically the Republicans want to make it so the President can raise the debt ceiling unless a huge amount of votes go again it. This means all the Republicans can vote against it leave it to the Dems to raise it so they can then blame in the next election.

What they are saying is they want to be the minority so they don't get the blame for tough decisions so they will make it so a minority vote (of Dems) can raise the debt ceiling in the house and Senate. Talk about passing the buck and looking stupid.

It gets so silly discussing anything with you. It just turns into a juvenile back and forth. Pelosi said Democrats won't accept any spending cuts, but who cares? She has as much power in the house as McConnell does.
