Shwa Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 What is hilarious, really, is that there was this little spoof on Rick Mercer last night; the 'president' of 'Alarm Choice' would help us figure out the Liberal Party Update Centreand then another about Iggy and the Spiders from Harvard 2011 Tour. Yet for the Liberal Party to get any traction, they have to eek out some quotes from the 'Arabian Business' website from Chretien. What's wrong with this picture? Michael Ignatieff is what's wrong. Where's the leadership? Quote

guyser Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Jean Chrétien — Prime Minister of Canada at the time the Sponsorship Program was established and operated. The Gomery Commission, First Phase Report which assigned blame for the Sponsorship scandal cast most of the indemnity for misspent public funds, fraud on Chrétien and his Prime Minister's Office staff, though it cleared Chrétien himself of direct wrongdoing I suppose some people just arent smart enough to know he was cleared. So It seems listening to chretien ,I am right,he would have sold us out the UAE. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Chretien+criticizes+Harper+handling+relations/4164918/story.html I read an article on McGuinty's statements also today. It seems that the UAE makes billions of dollars for Ontario and Canada, and is a gateway to the rest of the middle east. So having that door and the upwards of a billion dollars jepordized over the governments inability to resolve the problems, you know not make an enemy of a former ally, is what all these politicians are in part concerned with. Not just landing rights but the fallout for Ontarians and Canadians from bad blood with the UAE. I would be upset if my people were loosing more than 1 Billion dollars over perhaps a few million. - Edited January 26, 2011 by Esq Quote
Esq Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 On a more personal basis, for me feeling unsafe while traveling in the middle east - on a much higher level, is something that isn't very welcome, and UAE just isn't some back water Arabian blip - it is a major political unit of the whole Arab World one that stretches from the African Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. The man should be in jail. Naaa, Chretian had nothing to do with it, the "inquiry" told us that... Besides, the bottom line is we're still one country with Quebec in it, so no harm no foul... BUT, if you want to put a former PM in jail for a real crime I put Brian Morony up for that, for a lot of things/reasons, including treason for selling Canadians out to the US with the "free trade" agreement including, but hardly limited to, an agreement that lets the US dictate what Canadians pay for their own Gasoline at the pumps and prevents Canada from having a "domestic" vs OPEC dictated price for gas like every other oil exporting nation in the world has... Try again Cleared? He was "cleared" bwah-ha-ha-ha!!! http://www.thewesternstar.com/News/Justice/2008-02-04/article-1473234/Gomery,-Chretien-head-for-another-legal-showdown/1Chretien takes particular umbrage with Gomery's conclusion that he was politically, if not personally, responsible for the millions skimmed by Liberal-friendly ad agencies. He charges that Gomery "confuses his concern for national unity with the (sponsorship) Program." By way of a response, Gomery rehashes many of his most damning findings, including that Chretien was repeatedly cautioned by the Clerk of the Privy Council about the lack of oversight of sponsorship funds. "Several warnings were given by Ms. (Jocelyne) Bourgon who kept on pointing to the absence of rules for the Program...but these warning were left u snanswered," reads Gomery's memorandum of fact and law. The inquiry ultimately found that some of the millions that went missing were funnelled back into the federal Liberal Party by way of under-the-table donations. He may not have been found criminally responsiblee.... but he was certainly partly resonsible for turning a blind eye to the fact that millions of our tax money was stolen by his friends and party-faithful. Willful blindness? Was he paid off in little brown bags that we haven't learned about yet? It seems he probably knew about it, but did nothing to stop it. That is not "cleared". And yes... Mulroney should be in prison. Which has absolutely nothing to do with Chretien's responsibility in this cover-up. Quote
The_Squid Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Where did mulroney rip off the tax payer, he ripped off a stupid german arms dealer. Holy crap.... the partisan hacks for the Cons and Libs are all here in one cozy thread.... hypocrites the lot of you! What was the money for??? "Uhhh... I don't remember" is the answer. Mulroney doesn't remember why someone trying to get contracts from the gov't would have given him bags of cash... Wow... senility hit him hard and fast eh? Never mind the fact that he didn't claim this on his income tax. Guess he forgot about that too eh? Quote
