Great Movie Villains

I recall a comment by kimmy a year or two ago in which she described the Spanish captain in Pan's Labyrinth as one of the scariest movie villains she had ever seen, a characterization that has stuck with me. At one point, he smashes in a man's face with the bottom edge of a bottle of booze in front of the guy's father. It was bloody and very disturbing...

I think characters like the Mayan king and the high priest in Apocalypto chillingly capture the sort of very real self-serving villainy that most human beings are likely to feel and be directly affected by.

Yeah, power as having deranging properties...until power itself becomes a derangement.

After reading Bertrand Russell's thoughts on Power, I think there is a lot of truth to this.
