Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 ...Harper has decided not to extend Jean's term and is actively seeking her replacement, the Star has learned."The Prime Minister believes it should be an end-of-career posting," said one source, so that a governor general would not go on to an "awkward post vice-regal career." "One thing is for sure, it definitely won't be a CBC broadcaster," the source says, referring not only to Jean but her predecessor Adrienne Clarkson. It will be a right wing nut, to replace a left wing loon. I wish the PM, whoever it may be would stop the patronage! Why not have a job competition and take the best person willing to work for the people? Quote

Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 This a great opportunity for Harper remove Helena Guergis from cabinet. Hehe. The new GG swill most likely be someone older who will retire after serving as GG. I'm trying to think of who it could be. It will also most likely be someone who isn't in politics. Muddy Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Is Harper on talking bases with Manning and Mulroney? Who would he go for the Reformer or the Progressive Conservative? I don`t think Manning would take the job ,but I may be wrong. Good choice though. He is articulate and inteligent. Sandra Manning is not only gorgeous but she is class. Besides these guys could not possibly spend the taxpayers money frivulously. Yes, I see your point now. Is Harper on talking bases with Manning and Mulroney? Who would he go for the Reformer or the Progressive Conservative? Harper doesn't believe that the GG should be someone in politics for the most part. He's appointed 9 or 10 Lt. Govenors and only 1 was a politician, John Crosbie Lt. Gov for NL and Lab. So if that's anything to go on it most likely will not be someone involved in politics. Besides Manning is too busy with his conservative think tank in Ottawa. I just read that it's rumored that John de Chastelain is on PM Harpers short list. Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 How 'bout if Harper chose a sane person like Myron Thompson??? He left public office not long ago I don't see it happening but I'm sure people would be going crazy over this if it happened. It would drive the socialists crazy. I certainly hope not. ToadBrother Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Is Harper on talking bases with Manning and Mulroney? Who would he go for the Reformer or the Progressive Conservative? He and Manning loathe each other and appointing Mulroney would be political suicide. Quote

Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Myron Thompson as GG would drive sane people crazy... Anything the Tories do drives the non Tories crazy and vice versa. I don't really see the GG as being that important anymore or necessary these days. I don't think that that particular office matters all that much. Argus Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Rick Hansen seems to be in the news as a candidate... Too young. They appear to be looking for someone with gray hair. Given his supposed opposition to appointing ex-politicians (or, one assumes, media celebs) I can't, for the life of me, think of anyone other than military people who are older, well-known and distinguished. Does Paul Desmarais want to be GG? How about Marc Garneau? Wilber Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Lewis MacKenzie. A brilliant soldier and a very honest man who does not suffer fools lightly. Whoops! Disqualified. Exactly, the ability to suffer fools gracefully is a definate plus in that kind of job. All things considered I think Jean has done a good job but since the sixties the normal term seems to be 5 years, so there is nothing unusual here. bush_cheney2004 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Is the "hunt" always this much fun? If it can be anybody, then why not that prominent First Nations writer passed over for "promotion" to GG years ago? Or maybe "Captain Kirk" (William Shatner)? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
