bush_cheney2004 Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I'm glad you enjoyed the joke! The joke was on you...thanks! But you missed the larger point....The United States has already had its civil war....so can the Iraqis if needed. Helps to resolve many open issues. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Sir Bandelot Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 The joke was on you...thanks! No it's not... it's a quote. You missed the cultural reference. Oh well Quote
sharkman Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Well, if multiple attacks on one day continue for the next, say, month, then we may have the beginnings of a new unrest. Civil war? Uh, how do you get civil war out of your story? Quote

Sir Bandelot Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Saddam is not coming back...because "Mission Accomplished". Saddam had not even been captured yet when that banner flew. But such premature utterances are typical of you militant lowbrows. Quote

Hey Einstein, Saddam didn't need to be captured for his regime and political party to be thoroughly toppled. Try to pay attention next time. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
sharkman Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 They have been, dude. I been holding off for a while... I read some news reports about Iraq and it seems that they are in the process of democracy, and the bad guys are igniting bombs in an attempt to sway the outcome. Hopefully the brave people of Iraq will grow through these growing pains of democracy. Quote

Try to pay attention next time. You invoked Saddam in your statement. Just playing the game the way you like to play, boobie. Quote

Hopefully the brave people of Iraq will grow through these growing pains of democracy. I hope so too, but hope is a disease that comes from faith. Facts on the othe rhand are facts and must be dealt with, regardless of hope. THings are not going as well as so prematurely exclaimed in the original post. If the mission was to bring democracy to Iraq, mission is not accomplished. Some might now argue, that was never the mission. Therefore the Americans should be able to walk away satisfied that the job is done. Well, maybe, maybe not. US reconsidering pace of troop pullout amid violence and instability in Iraq BAGHDAD (AP) — American commanders, worried about increased violence in the wake of Iraq's inconclusive elections, are now reconsidering the pace of a major troop pullout this summer, U.S. officials said Tuesday. More than two months after parliamentary elections, the Iraqis have still not formed a new government, and militants aiming to exploit the void have carried out attacks like Monday's bombings and shootings that killed at least 119 people Quote

Sir Bandelot Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Read the post immediately above, Johnny. "More than two months after parliamentary elections, the Iraqis have still not formed a new government". Democracy requires cooperation. Let's at least allow them to accomplish that before we say they've got a democracy. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Read the post immediately above, Johnny. Read the Globe & Mail...Einstein. How 'bout those Winter Olympics, eh?! Democracy requires cooperation. Let's at least allow them to accomplish that before we say they've got a democracy. Democracy is often quite messy and unstable. Don't hold Iraq to a standard that many other democracies cannot meet in your zeal to make sure they appear to have failed, and more importantly, to make sure that US/UK policy for Iraq is a failure. Democracy has to exist first, in some form. A democratic government has to exist, to call it one. We could say the exact same thing about your zeal to call it a "success". Problems in democracy are normal, yes. But democratic process does typically include car bombings. Quote

We could say the exact same thing about your zeal to call it a "success". The Iraqis have their fledgling democracy, just like any other nation emerging from authoritarian rule. You may not like it, but it is a democratic form of government. Problems in democracy are normal, yes. But democratic process does typically include car bombings. I'm glad you agree...bombs happen. BubberMiley Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 bombs happen. Amazing how nonchalant one can be when one has never been exposed to the real thing. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
