No but the penalties were lessoned. You can still get a criminal record and a fine for less that 1/2 ounce.

The time frame Kimmy was writing about, I assume prior to 2002, the penalties could be higher...but most 1st time offenders ccaught with small amounts would not be given any panalty.

Please provide even ONE example of the penalties WRT pot offences being lessoned.

Try looking up the penalties when Marijuana possesion fell under the Opium and Narcotic Drug Act....then move along a bit till....

In 1996 the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act was passed. This law repealed the Narcotic Control Act and Parts III and IV of the Food and Drug Act (parts dealing with the advertisement of controlled substances). This Act classified drugs into eight schedules, I to VIII. Whilst the punishments for trafficking illicit drugs in Schedules I and II increased to a maximum of life imprisonment, the penalties for the possession of drugs in Schedule VIII (up to 30g of cannabis and 1g of hashish) decreased to a maximum six months imprisonment and/or a maximum fine of $1000.[6]

If we are going to gripe about illegal activity at publicly funded events, it seems to me Canada Day festivities should be high on the list.

High on the list. You did that on purpose didn't you!!! :D

And no it's still illegal here in Canada, but for the most part, if cops saw you walkin down the street smokin a joint, they really don't do or say anything. If you are not causing problems, you get ignored. That's been my experience with it. They got better things to take care of than a pot head.

I stand corrected. Imagine...life in prison for pot. I actually thought your were refering to more recent history, like when Cretien was considering decrim, but I can admit when I am wrong, and my statement was obviously incorrect. Thanks for the info Morris.

That's most gracious of you. I actually was thinking the '96 changes happened later on...forgetting completely the failed bills of this century.....mind you, memory ain't what it used to be....probably the side effects of smoking back in '73

That was never finished.

Interesting. So it's just decriminalized in some places, just like in the U.S., then.

Yes, this street urchin pal of mine explained it to me: the police only use it as a means to arrest someone they don't like, when they don't have anything else to charge them with.

Pretty much ya, though most of my friend are left alone and they only use it on the assholes who have done something but they don't have the neccessary evidence, they use it to get seach warrants. Though they occasionally do what you are talking about.

Funnily enough I've had friends tell me about times they've been caught smoking and all the cops have done is tell them to not do it in public.

Not even. Here's a scene that happened to me in about 2002.

I'm on the patio of the Cloak and Dagger with a kind-of-obnoxious arts hanger-on. He's got a loud voice, a loud Tahiti-style shirt and is talking loudly. I'm having a cigarette. We both have beers. As he talks I look past him to see two cops walking towards us. This is an usual sight, since Toronto cops walking the beat is something we haven't seen in many a decade.

Simultaneous to this, buddy takes out a large marijuana cigarette and goes to light it. Ahem, I say, and motion eastwards down College Street. He casually looks back over his shoulder to see the cops not ten feet away, walking straight for us and talking as they go. "It's ok", he says, "I'm a lawyer"... AND LIGHTS IT AS THEY PASS !

I take it that isn't a playground where kids hang out...? If ya dig..

Well this is anecdotal information, but a police officer friend of mine once told me that its common to train rookies on arrest procedures, by busting pot heads. She said that most pot heads are considered easy to arrest, as they don't fight much compared to drunks or the actual violent offenders. Of course there are exceptions. But generally considered an easy bust and makes you look good as a cop when youcan make more arrests, leads to things like career advancement, promotion.

My perception as a non-smoker is, the attitude towards pot was becoming more relaxed under Jean Chretien. It was almost to the brink of decrim, but now under the Stephen Harper government they have done almost a complete about-face. The proposed mandatory minimums for pot possession or cultivation are clear examples of this. So, I don't think you all know what you're talking about. Pot laws are not ignored in this country. If they are in your area, they won't be soon.

When I lived in Ottawa I attended Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill. As an underaged teen at the time, I was certainly surprised to say the least.

This was certainly a publicly funded event (I can't imagine all of those 3rd-rate Can-con singers were playing for free...) and there was certainly a heavy police presence, and there was an amazing tolerance for illegal activity, marijuana use. One could not move for more than 5 meters in any direction without bumping into either an RCMP officer or someone smoking marijuana. At other Canada Day firework I have attended since, I have noticed similar acceptance of marijuana use as well, to a lesser degree (as measured by joints per police officer per meter squared.)

If we are going to gripe about illegal activity at publicly funded events, it seems to me Canada Day festivities should be high on the list.

The gay pride parade condones open sex with multiple partners and the gay community as a whole condones homosexual relation with young people. It's no wonder why a great percentage of homosexuals are paedophiles.

It's estimated that 1-3% of the population is homosexual. However over one third of all sexual abuses against children are done by homosexuals. Did you read that properly? Hetrosexuals outnumber homosexuals by at least 20 to 1 yet homosexuals account for one third of all sexual abuse cases against children.

In May 1995,

Rosalie Abella of the Ontario Court of Appeals low-

ered the a ge of consent for anal sex to 14 because she

concluded that the Ontario sodomy law denied men

under 18 a “basic form of sexual expression.”17

Here is an example of Gerald Hannon's writings. He is a former Ryerson Professor who was teaching our young children. he is a homosexual and admitted boy lover and long time supporter of NAMBLA. Gerald Hannon is an activist for the gay community in Toronto.

In January 1994, Hannon wrote an article

for Xtra, a homosexual biweekly, comparing child sex

rings to hockey teams for children. “I could never

understand before how children’s hockey differed from

an organized child-sex ring,” wrote Hannon. “Both

involved children and adults. … Both involve pleasure.

Yet we approve of children’s hockey but deplore child-

sex rings.”

We're beginning to see some disturbing trends in our schools as well. Students were handed these pamphlets aa few years ago.

...there is an ongo-

ing campaign in Canada to gain social acceptance for

adult/child “love.” For example, a sex education pam-

phlet being distributed in Toronto schools showed a

boy having sex with a man. The caption beneath the

picture read, “Having sex with men can be as scary as

coming out. But just like being gay, having sex with

men is natural.”

Source for all above quotes...page 7

Some intersting facts a study uncovered about homosexuality in general.

One study reports that the average homosexual has between 20 and 106 partners per year (6). The average heterosexual has 8 partners in a lifetime.

Many homosexual sexual encounters occur while drunk, high on drugs, or in an orgy setting (7).

78% of homosexuals are affected by STDs (20).

Homosexuals were responsible for spreading AIDS in the United States, and then raised up violent groups like Act Up and Ground Zero to complain about it. Even today, homosexuals account for well over 50% of the AIDS cases in the United States, which is quite a large number considering that they account for only 1-2% of the population.

Homosexuals commit more than 33% of all reported child molestations in the United States, which, assuming homosexuals make up 2% of the population, means that 1 in 20 homosexuals is a child molestor, while 1 in 490 heterosexuals is a child molestor (19).

73% of all homosexuals have had sex with boys under 19 years of age (9).

Source of quote.

Priede week in general is a tool for which to desensitize the public the homosexual lifestyle which includes public sex and a general attitude of promiscuity. This is basis for my need to capture the people involving themselves in public sex.

They're not.

No,they don't. This has been a common misperception...and in fact, it is a misperception based on a sympathetic impulse towards pedophiles; because it is assumed that pedophilia is directly related to adult sexuality in ways which it actually is not.

Most men who molest boys do not have sexual attractions to adult males; but DO have sexual attractions to adult females.

In other words, even most men who commit "homosexual" child molestation are in fact heterosexual males, albeit in a rather complicated way.

As for those pedophiles who are only attracted to children, and never to adults, they don't fall within the normal categories of heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual.

Also another thing which is disturbing is the high number of anti Semitic incidents at the Toronto Pride Parade. I thought this was about gay pride? Why are many marching in the parade but are protesting against Israel and calling for its destruction.

That's right people marching in the gay pride parade in Toronto last year were calling Israel and aprthied state and calling for its destruction.

This blatent anti Semitism has no place in the gay pride parade.

Equating Israel to Aparthied South Africa and Nazi Germany is Anti Semitic no matter which way you look at it. This is the position of many on the left in Canada.

So I'll be filming two things at the pride parade now. Public sex acts going on and blatant Anti-Semitism.

So I'll have the support of the average Canadian and of the Jews. This is a win/win situation. Who knows maybe I can get some funding for this.

This is twice in a row you cannot defeat my argument so you switch to ad hominem instead.

Correction. That's twice in a row that I am pointing out your hypocrisy. You cannot have it both ways, denouncing people for saying actually less than what you have said yourself, and expect that noone will mention it.

As for your so-called :argument". It is not an argument, but berely an expression of your knee-jerk hatred for "The Left".

You don't like it? Too bad... for you.
