Topaz Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 It's business as usually on the Hill, and Harper will have to turn over ALL the documents that the committees have asked for on the detainee issue or risk being in contempt of Parliament. So will he or won't give up ALL documents? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/02/28/canada-harper-parliament.html Quote

The committee was zeroing in on Mackay. It's Mackay that will be held in contempt. Quote
Alta4ever Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Political Games who will win the gold? I don't know but I can tell you who will lose, Canadians. capricorn Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 It's Mackay that will be held in contempt. Looks like Canadians are in for another lesson on how our Parliamentary system operates. We have just worked through the meaning of prorogation, now it will be "what the hell is contempt of Parliament?". Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Alta4ever Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 What will we lose, exactly? The more apt question is what won't we. I have kind of enjoyed not having the mouth breathers on the news whipping up false bravado over this or that. Not having the constant non scandal scandals. Its been a real treat, not having to listen to talking heads yapping about nothing. Now that parliament is in session again we lose by having to listen and pay attention to all of this again. Smallc Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 So in other words, we don't lose anything, and we may gain an understanding of how things work in parliament. Quote

Jerry J. Fortin Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I find the exact opposite. I hope you are kidding. The more you look into this crap the more you find questionable! Nonsense is wht the government really undertakes on a regular basis. Quote
Smallc Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 It looks like nonsense when you forget that there are 34M other people living in the country with you. The more I learn about our system of government, the more comfortable I am with it. Quote
Shady Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I think Jack Layton has already won the gold of political gamesmanship. His unique and sudden appearance at Wayne Gretzky's bar in Toronto for the gold medal game was priceless. However, he locked up the political gold medal when he pushed down a woman's arm that was in front of him, so that he could remain in view of the television camera. So let's all raise our glasses and toast, to Jack Layton! The gold medalist for pathetic policial posturing! Quote

I don't know the PM had some pretty good policial posturing of his own taking his son and his photographer to the games with him just too get that perfect moment for the next election. Maybe Jack gets the silver on this one. http://buckdogpolitics.blogspot.com/2010/03/stephen-harper-brought-his-own-official.html Quote

Maybe Jack gets the silver on this one. http://buckdogpolitics.blogspot.com/2010/03/stephen-harper-brought-his-own-official.html Nope, Jack Layton still wins hands down. Heads of state always have photographers. How many times have we seen pictures taken of Presidents or Prime Ministers in their office, on the phone in some important foreign policy discussion? Plus, the only place I've seen that photo of Harper is on your leftwing blog. If he did intend to have that picture circulate, he's done a lousy job of it. Pulling a woman's arm down so that you don't get blocked out from the television camera is a gold medal winning move, any time, any day, any month, and any year! Quote
Smallc Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Heads of state always have photographers. It helps to keep track of which country you're arguing about. Stephen Harper isn't anything of state. Quote
Argus Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) It's business as usually on the Hill, and Harper will have to turn over ALL the documents that the committees have asked for on the detainee issue or risk being in contempt of Parliament. So will he or won't give up ALL documents? A better qeustion is; will the Liberals come up with a real issue Canadians care about? Will they come up with any policy ideas or will they spend the entirey term whinging about inconsequential things of little value or importance to Canadians. So far, I'm betting this term will be much like the last, with them searchign for something they can blow up into a scandal, ro simply opposing whatever the government is doing - be it spending too much or spending too little or spending in the wrong place. The prisoner issue is a prime example. It's supremely unimportant to Canada and Canadians compared to things like the economy, unemployment, taxes, health care, etc., but it's liable to take the lions share of Opposition attention regardless. fellowtraveller Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 It is hard to blame anybody for expressing contempt for Parliament, given what happens and does not happen there. I often feel contempt for them. Hilarious response to what Layton did , comparing it to Harper taking his kid to a game...... Quote The government should do something.
fellowtraveller Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Agree with Argus above, they Libs and NDP won't gain a single vote by beating on Harper about the 'issues'- detainees and prorogation. The undecided out there don't give a shit about either. Always, it is the economy - and the indicators that we are recovering (under the wise and benevolent hand of Stevie)are unmistakable. if the Libs and Dippers and Block are going to make their move, they had better do it soon as their news will not be getting better. Quote The government should do something.
