Smallc Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 And this time they won't get held up in the senate. I wouldn't be so sure of that. I would still expect that Senators will do their jobs (for example, the legislation on product recalls that had some nasty little parts in it). If legislation just sails through the Senate without any analysis or necessary changes, then we could have a real problem. Quote
bloodyminded Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Or at least not support the Taliban like so many of you on the Left do. If you can find a single post where I express support for the Taliban, I'll eat one of those medieval bastards alive. Better yet, I'll share his delicious corpse with the theocratic, women-hating, ideologically-identical Warlords--our close and warm allies--whom, so you will tell me, have determined to help free the people of Afghanistan...from...well, themselves, evidently. Keepitsimple Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Did people notice that the latest Nanos poll has the Conservatives back up to 39.5%? See the polls thread. Link: http://www.nanosresearch.com/library/polls/POLNAT-W09-T408E.pdf Quote Back to Basics
Battletoads Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 So lets see Harper is trying to weasel his way out of his governement's responsibilities under the guise of taking a paid vaction to go see the olympics... Not sure which part of that makes me sicker. Quote "You can lead a Conservative to knowledge, but you can't make him think."

Oleg Bach Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 In my almost 60 years of having my feet firmly planted on Canadian soil I never heard the word PROROUGE! Surely most other Canadians have not heard of the word untill recently. I suspect someone simply made it up or at least dug the term out of some old law book that the first British Parlimentarians must have had hidden for the king to use when he wants to over ride the government. What does the word mean? Does it mean you are pro-rouge - that you have gone rogue...I suppose when Harper and the boys see people like former VP Cheney attempting to over ride the system - that Harper as per usual is taking his lead from head office down in Huston or New York or where ever the big rouges hang out. Quote
Oleg Bach Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 looks like there are too many about who are pro-rouge. Quote
Oleg Bach Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Harper is not the King - he is simply a favorite prince (minion). Dich Cheney is the King...and Conrad Black is his seniour advisor...wish I could be the fly on the wall when those two talk..of course they talk - Conrad has all the info and Cheney is a need to know sort of guy - but no one is telling Obama anything because he is black - it's a simple black and white thing. Topaz Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 It looks like by all accounts, Harper is asking to prorogue Parliament again but the decision is up to the GG. If this goes forward ALL bills die and the NDP's EI bills dies too. I wonder what those people who needed longer on EI will do when the election comes?? http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/284726 Quote

Smallc Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I'm pretty sure that was already passed this fall. Quote
willy Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I'm pretty sure that was already passed this fall. It did and is likely to be renewed in the next budget. The prorogue of parliament was used four times under Chretien. Not a big deal. This is a card the government gets to play. A new speech from the throne and a new budget with the majority in the senate. The prize for being government for the past four years. The EI plan can be brought back in with the new budget so no need to get the nickers in a knot just yet. Been a while, Willy Quote

Bryan Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 The prorogue of parliament was used four times under Chretien. Not a big deal. +1 The rationale for the current prorogation aside, I often wonder why it is that Liberals and Liberal supporters constantly cry foul when the current government does things that that they themselves had no problems with when they were in power. Smallc Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Well, I can sometimes understand why some (including me) criticize the Conservatives for things that the Liberals would have done. It's because the Conservatives promised to be different, and really, they aren't. If you look at how they've governed thus far, they're kind of like big blue liberals, and that's why I can support them. Quote

Smallc Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 How could she not agree to it this time? There's no reason for her not to. Last time, there was arguments to be made in both directions, but this time, there is absolutely no reason for her to not follow the advice of her Prime Minister. Quote

Smallc Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Proof is usually required when you make an accusation. Oh, and last I checked, we in Canada don't make distinctions between citizens, no matter their place of birth. Edited December 31, 2009 by Smallc Quote
