The real difference can be explained in simply stating that Canada and Canadians are still interested in socially responsible government. That is, capitalism with a healthy mix of socialism when it's obviously required to make a socially responsible form of capitalism.

Whereas the US and Americans in general continue to support a completely unacceptable form of capitalism which doesn't serve the interests of it's people. This has resulted in a nation which has the highest per capita income in the world along with the second highest income inequality in the world. A situation which is guaranteed to bring it down if it's not saved by a popular revolution. Not likely, as beginnings such as OWS and the tea baggers have been quickly hijacked by the Koch brothers and their ilk.

America is stuck in the 20th. century with it's dreams of the American way. It's a way that is totally unsustainable in this 21st. century.

Canada needs to pay close attention to how the US is disintegrating in relation to the wellbeing of it's people and run away in the other direction fast. Disposing with the Harper government is mission # one on the road to a more socially responsible Canada as has been our pride as a nation for our very length of existence.

Add to that that it's a forgone conclusion that the chickens will begin to come home for Canada too if we follow in the footsteps of US aggression for much longer. That must never be what Canada still is in the eyes of the world. Indeed still in the eyes of Europeans the most desirable country in the world in which to live!

Really ? Then why do more Europeans emigrate to the United States....then and now....voting with their feet, just like the rest of the world, including Canadians.

I think a few Canadians would be surprised to hear how well many in the world speak of the U.S. and Americans; I've heard it plenty during my travels. :)

Well, it's a safe bet to say that you don't know "Canada" at all, as it is a far more complex place that your tiny and narrow view from America allows.

Goes both ways I suppose.

Is that nice little attack aimed at me?

Americans have a larger number of idiots than Canadians because the population is 10 times more.

The biggest difference is our media and this is mostly due to CBC's presence. The Canadian media manages to criticize its government deeper and in more depth.

Canadians also do not have to deal with obnoxious racist idiots like this:

Though I don't always dignify your posts, I response as follows:

  1. This particular individual is an obvious idiot with a chip on her shoulder;
  2. Only a small amount of this had to do with race, most of it with excruciatingly poor customer service, similar to what I received at Stop N'Shop in White Plains routinely;
  3. This has nothing to do with "American culture"; and
  4. I have encountered some service of this variety in Niagara Falls, Toronto, and most especially Montreal

For you to accuse anyone of racism is beyond rich.

Funny you categorize that as an attack , and even funnier that you attempt to purposely try to ingratiate yourself in some non existant made up spat.

You walk around all day this way? Maybe so, you are a lawyer.

She calls the girl working there a "sand nigger".

If you don't think that's racism, then you need a lesson on what racism is.

Maybe you could tell us what video you watched? It certainly wasnt the one from DD.

It would help, only becuase there was no poor customer service only exemplary service as shown by the young man in the video who helped her

Yeah, right. Canada doesn't have any obnoxious racist idiots.

The biggest difference is our media and this is mostly due to CBC's presence. The Canadian media manages to criticize its government deeper and in more depth.

Yeah, right. again.

This brings to mind an actual difference, though; the U.S., while I totally disagreed with it, went into Iraq making no bones about it - as Canada went too, but pretended it didn't. As much as I disagreed with going to war, I'd much rather my country be open about it than hide it and pretend to be something it's not.

This floor is starting to hurt when I fall off it. Stomach muscles hurt some too.

Knowing the lies and rhetoric leading up to the war were bogus and even admitted as bogus by the informant the Bush Admin used to drum up support for a ground invasion.... people use that as an example of openness?

Next think we will hear that Syria (Assad) never used chemical weapons!

I'll put the needle at the start of this record so we can hear it again.

Perhaps I'm missing it - but where, exactly, is your outrage at Canada for its lies about its involvement?

Technically we did not go into the war. There were Canadian troops in Iraq, but these specific ones were part of an exchange program between Canada and the USA. These Canadian troops embedded with American forces had the option to come home or stay with their assigned group. We've gone over this a few times before.

Yes you can take up the issue where Canada did provide logistical support in the Gulf, but that has always been the case even before the war happened. And that I will agree with you, Canada should not have been anywhere near the the Gulf or the Iraq war.

Some of us have taken issue with it, but when we do, it's ignored in order to say that there was no outrage.

I guess this may represent some cultural difference, but sorry, got off topic.

What lies?

Is 100 personnel , on loan or in an exchange , and 3 ships patrolling the gulf a lie (logistics)?

Canada was not particpant to the invasion nor fighting on the front lines. Perhaps they would have been , but no UN approval meant they wouldnt be going to war.

On second thought and edit, this is off topic for this thread so should be ignored.

Ummm, Yeah. "Technically" you did.

So why not own it instead of trying to make it into something it was not?

Some of us have taken issue with it, but when we do, it's ignored in order to say that there was no outrage.

So show me where your outrage was? All I saw was criticism of Bush et al. I said that perhaps I missed it. So please point it out.

I guess this may represent some cultural difference, but sorry, got off topic.

It most definitely does represent some cultural difference.

Racists/idiots are on both sides of the 49th.

Absolutely.

Such denial.

For the record, denial doesn't change the reality.

Canada had no problem bombing Serbs for 99 days without "UN approval".

Hey thats great.

Got a point?

OK...I'll play along and not assume that you understand the obvious point that "UN approval" doesn't mean jack when Canada is not so inclined.

I did have an answer. It was quite obvious. Sorry you missed it. Here it is again. Your denial doesn't change reality. Nor does your lol emoticon.

I am afraid you have nt the slightest clue then.

Spell it out. tell us how Canada as a nation went and fought the War in Iraq

Why? That isn't the topic either. If it makes you feel better, Canada bombed Iraqis too (in 1991). When you get bombed by Canada, you must have really screwed up, huh ?
