Dave_ON Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 It's not particularly controversial more just informational. As a fan of the Monarchy I look forward to the visit. I would definitely go out for the event if she visits near here. The itinerary is yet to be announced. Would you go out for the Queens Visit? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/07/12/queen-visit.html Also how do you land a cushy gig like "Secretary to the Queen" like Kevin MacLeod? No Monarchy is a throw back to the bad days. Quote Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

Smallc Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Anyway, I'm quite excited that HRH is visiting. It's always nice to have our head of state in the country to check up on things (well, she does that quite often from afar). Quote
lily Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Way back when when I was at university, Queen Elizabth and Prince Phillip did a walkabout there. I skipped a class to go see. I don't know if I will this time though, but I'm very happy she's coming. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
g_bambino Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 The itinerary is yet to be announced. If only the PMO would smarten up and have HM here to open the Winter Olympics. If she's not here next year for that event, I imagine it might be the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Canadian Navy that the Queen will mark. Maybe the 83 year old woman just didn't want to be in Vancouver in the dead of winter. Quote

ToadBrother Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 To go see the motley family of Gotha Saxburg? No thank you. Um, first of all I think you're referring to Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. And I'm reasonably confident that they wouldn't cross the street to save you from drowning. I know I wouldn't. Quote
g_bambino Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 To go see the motley family of Gotha Saxburg? No thank you. Yes, I suppose their multi-ethnic background is a little too motley for your puritain tastes. You must see a real value to close inbreeding. Quote

Smallc Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 The monarchy is so pointless, Well, if you consider the administration of 16 countries to be pointless. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 I have no use for the monarchy. I'd prefer something more, well, democratic as our head of state than who your daddy was. So this visit will be a yawn for me. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Smallc Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 We have a democracy in government. There's no reason to politicize the head of the country. Quote
