I don't see that happening anytime soon, but the reality is that the two countries are moving closer, and many Canadians are now proposing a customs union between the US and Canada, to the exclusion of Mexico. I approve of that, because Mexico's problems cannot drag us down. If there is a customs union, then, over time, both countries will merge. Do you see this happening? IOW, do you see the two countries becoming one? China is a huge country under the brutal thumb of a small minority, the Han Chinese. A country whose economy is essentially based on slave labor will never develop the dynamic middle class needed for world leadership. The EU is an ossified, fossilized group of countries that are good at paying benefits. I do not see either, as presently constitued, as being a legitimate challenger to the Anglosphere.In case you haven't noticed their influence rises and falls with crude oil prices. Last summer they were riding high with $140 oil. 1. The Han are not a small minority. They constitute about 90% of China's population! 2. A country needn't be a chalenger to become more influential. Overall, China has gained influence not by trying to challenge the uS, but rather by minding its business overall except when directly and legitimately affected. 3. The Anglosphere, though a legitimate concept, is still limited in its application. Heck, a good 20% of Canadians do not belong to the Anglosphere! Some here seem to view international relations along very materialistic lines (i.e. what's in it for me) rather than from a more altruistic POV. Union with Mexico might slow down Canada's development in the short to medium term, but would certainly benefit the Mexican people more than it would hurt us. In spite of that, we'd rather keep them down in our attempt to keep what's left of what we have, we want to build a fortress America. If we could look beyond self interest to altruism (all too dead a virtue in the hearts of most compatriots I believe), we could adopt policies that would help to develop the world, at but a small sacrifice on our part. Fair enough.....Mexico, Mexicans, and other Hispanics are a significant part of American history and current population demographics, especially labor. IMO, many (not all) Canadians dismiss this relationship in favor of an overly bloated estimation of their own nation's relevance to the United States when it comes to immigrants, legal or illegal. I've spoken with them about such things, but they say demand in Canada is insatiable...you know....like Americans craving BC Bud. Maybe we'd get more clout and respect if some French canadians decided to pour into New York, Vermont, Massachusetts et al. illegally, costing billions in tax subsidies to the doltish American Tax paying bovine animals, spitting on their culture and their people, desecrating their institutions, insisting to speak and be SPOKEN to in French, make crime skyrocket, and produce a movement bent on breaking off the north East to give it to their rightful owners: Quebec... maybe then the French Canadians could simply scream "racism" and get everything they want on a silver platter like the Mestizos do... maybe then the US would like us....
