OddSox Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 The captain of the M/S Nautica ordered passengers inside and gunned the engine, allowing the ship to outrun the pirates' speedboats in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday, a company spokesman said." A cruise ship outrunning a speed boat? Sounds a little fishy. On another note, what would the US response be if they actually kidnapped 1,000 US citizens? It doesn't sound like a great career move, even for a pirate. Quote
M.Dancer Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 A cruise ship outrunning a speed boat? Sounds a little fishy. Not really..depends on the head start....a cruise ship can go full steam ahead for hours and hours....a speed boat? 30-45 minutes? DogOnPorch Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Good little documentary on the subject from Journeyman Pictures. Re: Sting operation. Probably the best idea. During WW1, the Brits used similar methods to take-out U-Boats called Q-ships. Old trawlers and other easy looking targets were outfitted with weapons by the RN. When the U-Boats surfaced to board the craft, out came the hidden guns. Torpedos were not very reliable during WW1, so U-Boats tended to do most of their work on the surface with the deck gun rather than using torps while submerged. ------------------------------------------------------- Desperate affairs require desperate measures. ---Horatio Nelson Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
