Then come back to cook later - we could have flights that bring in fat Pakistani cooks who we put up in hotels - then they cook and fly away - and Yah - mexican maids as mistresses....oh yah - immigration is good but needs controls...

We need to only accept refugees in dire situations, situations of life and death only. Send the rest packing. Immigrants that fill our needs are to be accepted all others denied until the world economic crisis subsides.

Lets clear the backlog and become productive again. We mustn't let our founding fathers principals be overrun by the special interest.

Rule of thumb is nothing that needs to be cooked. But for some reason mexican spicey pepper pastries are forbidden. Obviously we need more Latin Americans if the street food scene is to be improved.

Or why not just reimplement a head tax. The government would make a lot of money off of it.

You are bringing money with you that we will end up taxing - 500$ headtax.

You would like to come to canada but we don't really need you - but you woulnd't hurt $1000 headtax

You are unskilled - you can move here but you must pay a come to canada fee of 500$ that will pay for your airplane ride home if you don't keep paying us. (the rate based on return airfare costs). then say 1/10th their income on top of taxes each month to some reasonable ammount like 500$'s If you put in 5000$ into your pot then you can bring a family member over for free (subject to the same guidelines) and if anyone you sponser ends up being a terrorist you all get sent to Nunuvut or the north west territories for 20 years.

Refugees would be special in that they would go on tour until they started work. Telling why the other side is the badguy to highschool civics classes and other great places. and would be required to work for CSIS and help with the census and elections = but there would be follow ups and if there were errors, they would be sent home.

This is not a matter of skin colour. This is a matter of cultural values and the quite natural feeling of comfort people feel about being around those who are much like them. It can be quite disconcerting to find yourself living somewhere largely populated by people with entirely alien values and cultural beliefs who speak a different language and who you suspect regard you with hostility.

The fact so many immigrants, and yes, it's a minority, but still, quite noticeable amount - do not work, or work at low level jobs, paying little, if any taxes, or become involved in criminal activities certainly does not help fill one with the thrill of welcoming newcomers. Every slum seems filled with immigrants, and our newspapers relate the violence in our streets every day, accompanied by foreign sounding names for those being arrested. What is the ordinary guy to think of this? Why, he can justifiably ask, are we bringing over so many of these people?

And the only response is "We aree the wwwoooorld!" sung by, for the most part, politicians who live in very large homes away from the great mass of immigrants they're populating our cities with. The politicians aren't exposed to criminal behaviour, or any other behaviour. They're not on the buses and subways, and about the only immigrants they ever encounter are the cleaning staff in their government buildings, or the "cultural representatives" they cut deals with in exchange for voting blocks.

And yet generalities are generally true.

Hum. Haha sorry, I guess I got the wrong message from some of the posts. If you guys are talking about the failure to assimilate into "Canadian culture" and values, then yes, I do believe that is a pretty huge problem.. I am all for immigration with the condition that the immigrants would be able to successfully assimilate. I still don't think being born in the country is a big deal, look at Omar Khadr for example.

Every Saturday morning you can go to any Money Mart in any area with a high immigrant population. What you will see is a long line up of people sending loads of money out of Canada. That sounds to me like people who have their hearts elsewhere.
