RCMP raids Tory party headquarters

Recommended Posts

Why don't we wait until something has been proven first.

That hasn't stopped the Tories from trying to say that Elections Canada is on a vendetta. Where's the proof? They say Elections Canada tipped off the Liberals and the media. Where's the proof?

How about them waiting outside of the CPC headquarters for Elections Canada to show up.

Citation? They arrived after the Elections Canada and the RCMP were already executing the search warrant. Stop lying, please.

They can't help it they are CPC supporters.

CTV News is reporting now that Tory members are accusing Elections Canada of using the raid to steal their election platform for the upcoming election.

Watch on CTV.ca's nightly broadcast.

They say there are moles in Elections Canada and that it is partisan. I'm sure they will be soon saying it can't oversee the next election and will order the RCMP to raid Elections Canada offices.

Elections Canada obviously had a judge sign a search warrant. You had better blame a Liberal judiciary as well!

Does CBC get a fax of every search warrant issued?

Was Newsworld there when Guite and the Liberal fraud artists were picked up on warrants? Were CPC cameras right behind?

Come on, common sense here. Someone tipped off CBC at the very least.

The Conservative have been digging their own graves for some time now and this group reminds me of Mulroney group and they were corrupt by charging lobbyist extras for favours. Did Mulroney give Harper advise on how to govern and how to scam, no wonder they are in touble. The latest are the tobacco farmers who were told no more money to quit the tobacco growing program and grow some else but the Cons are giving 50 Mil to pig farmers! The tobacco farmers have usually 50-100 acres for growing tobacco and so the cash crop has to be like tobacco to make any money. Maybe they should grow poppies like they do in Afghanistan, there`s a short of morphine in the world and this would help out. Alot of the Ontario Tobacco farmer`s were Conservative supporters and they were burning their Con card and vowing to vote against the government.

I'm not so sure that this is as amazing as some of you claim. If any of my wife's friends worked in any capacity to know anything was being issued as big as a search warrant on a political party's office, well word would spread pretty damn quickly. Let us not forget the proxemity of the LPOC offices to the CPC one.

Stop being so freaking paranoid.

On the news this morning the Harris Decima poll reports that women are fleeing the Conservative party. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink or similar sayings apply to Mr. Harper. There is too much on record of what he really believes and Conservatives can yell to the heights that he has changed but people are not stupid. People will not trust someone who says oh I have changed and then tries to sneak throught bills such as the one changing the rules on abortion. Sneaking additions to bill to put through unwanted legislation only proves how dishonest Harper really is.

I heard some journalists saying the Harper is playing the good cop/bad cop game and poor old Flaherty fell right into it. Ontarions booted Flaherty's party out and they do have long memories.

In a world where there is so much access to informtion it it pretty hard to shut people up the way Harper tries to do.

How can the CCP be so blatently dishonest? I know that they are no different than the other parties but give me a break, we as voters are not deaf or blind.

I guess the CPC stands for Corrupt Party of Canada. Cheating and breaking all the rules to try and buy an election seems pretty serious to me.

We need strong election laws like we have to prevent corrupt groups like the CPC from buying their way into power. We have spending limits so that the very rich minority that votes for very corrupt parties like the CPC cannot use their very deep pockets to fleece the public into believing their lies with fancy tv ads. The CPC spent over a million dollars more than they were legally allowed to spend to BUY this minority government. HMM, a million dollar crime should warrant a mandaTORY minimum sentence, what's Harper going to do for a year in prison?

Translation; Please get rid of these people so I can get someone, anyone in power who will let me smoke pot all the time! Please! I don't care if it's an Adolph Hilter clone burning Jews in ovens so long as I have my pot! I don't care if its a bunch of socialist idiots who destroy the economy! I only care about pot! Give me pot! Please! Please!

Talk about a one trick pony.

Why did you ignore the phrase that August quoted: "...showed up when news of the raid began to spread"?

Why did you ignore when August added "Disingenuous phrase". Word began to spread? We're talking about a half dozen guys in suits entering an office building. How is word about that going to spread around the city within minutes so that already hired Liberal videographers show up to record it all? Word began to spread? From whom? The only ones who would have known were the Tories and Elections Canada.

I'm sure every Tory with a Blackberry was wiring someone about what was happening and within minutes every news crew would have been there.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that the Tories leaked it? Because half a dozen guys in suits entering an office building doesn't make much noise around Ottawa. I find it hard to believe that Tory party people were going to be calling anyone to talk about a raid on their offices other than other Tory party people. You're suggesting one of those party people tipped the Liberals and media within minutes?

Harper appointed Elections Canada's present head
.

Clearly an error on his part. If he had followed long-time Liberal policy and only appointed loyal party people to head all government boards and agencies this wouldn't have happened. Instead he just appointed a long-time bureaucrat (most of whom have ties to the Liberals)

I asked for an example "in and out" that several Tories here have said every party does and I haven't seen one example. This is just part of a sleazy, paranoid and vitriolic campaign by a party that is not transparent and is full of crap on the issue of election spending.

Actually it is the media which is suggesting this is common practice and always has been, ie, Don Martin among others. And for someone who is as much a blind Liberal Party zealot as you are to complain about sleaze is laugh out loud hypocritical given yours is the party which meets in dark Italian restaurants, patting each other down for microphones as they pass stolen money across the table in brown envelopes.

I personally don't care who assisted the raid. All I know is a judge signed a search warrant and obviously thought there was cause. I guess the right wing can now call this judge a partisan hack now.

Has anyone else noticed that Jdobbin got new talking points from the party in his latest package?

Every single post of his refers to the "right wing". I know the Liberals are worried about the NDP making inroads on the Left. Maybe these new talking points are part of their response.

You are being uncharacteristically shrill these days. Internal party polling not going well?

The questions I would like to see answered: What were Elections Canada after, why did they think they needed a warrant, and why did they think they needed RCMP assistance? As importantly - what steps did they take previously to get this information.

If, as the Tories have said, they had given EC everything asked for, and EC had not made any requests for three months, why the warrant? What did they say in order to convince a judge to sign such a warrant? I would really like to see that warrant unsealed. We've seen numerous cases in the past where warrants were issued due to misrepresentation of facts. This could be another such instance. If that were the case, then the whole top echelon of bureacrats at EC should be fired.

Another question: Why call the RCMP? You would normally call upon them to assist if you had fears the people you were serving with the warrant would refuse to honour it. That seems highly unlikely in this case. Were they afraid party workers were going to beat them up? Ignore a warrant and refuse to hand over the documents? That seems unlikely too.

EC raided the Tory party HQ twice, and both times the media were there to show them entering, not just exiting. Suspicious doesn't begin to describe that.

This raid is hugely undemocratic. When an elections commission raids political offices that are suing them for wrong doing, you generally think of Zimbabwe or Malawi. I really don't think of Canada. But today, you do.

This is clearly the most undemocratic thing I've seen in a long time. Bureaucrats threating political parties with force and police when they are sued. Yikes.

I overall agree and that's why I'm saying this stuff simply doesn't happen in first world countries. This stinks of Pakistan.

Anyhow, I find it more troubling.. or equally troubling of what Harper's party did. That is simply open corruption at our highest level of office. That is a sign of a falling political system. A falling country.

These really are signs that Canada is sinking.

The Media are always going to be on a hot story. One of the problems is that the CPC lost credibility the moment the attained office by not sticking to their principles. Once you have this level of doubt that the CPC are no different then the LPC with regards to integrity, you are going to attract the Media Sharks on every controversy. And the media sharks prefer a good story over political bias.

Welcome to the feeding frenzy.

Wow this is so disgusting. What 3rd world style of politics have we become. I'm truly emberassed to be Canadian (again).

Are we in Canada or Pakistan?
