waldo Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 and just how's it playing down home in the heart of the "accidental Albertan's" (h/t jdobbin) frozen base? Tories should can attack ads In a deft counter-attack clearly worked up in advance, Ignatieff effectively accused the Tories of having a nativist notion of what makes a first-class Canadian. "You know and we know that no matter where we come from, where we live or have lived, we are all of us proud Canadians," he said. Did the Conservatives really want to give Ignatieff a chance to get that sound bite on the air, after all the effort they've made to lure socially conservative new Canadians away from the Grits? Albertans -- might consider telling their Tory MPs to show more confidence in themselves, more focus on the country's problems and less eagerness to give Ignatieff opportunities to work out the kinks before the next election is called. Bryan Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 please dismiss another G&M op-ed... are we seeing a pattern yet? Sure there's a pattern... That the G&M is a shill for the LPC. Tell us something we didn't already know. Quote
Smallc Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 That the G&M is a shill for the LPC. Tell us something we didn't already know. Yeah, that's why they endorsed the Conservatives last election.... Anyway, the last article is from the Edmonton Journal, so what about that? Quote

Smallc Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Here's one (a letter to the editor) from the Gazette (Montreal): Is Gretzky one of us, according to Harper? And the actual article: Bad tactics National Post: John Mraz: Conservatives' poopin puffin may miss the target this time Calgary Herald (although to be fair, Don Martin seems to hate Harper): Don Martin: Real issues go begging as nastiness takes hold Yeah, but it's only Liberals attacking...right? madmax Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Sure there's a pattern...That the G&M is a shill for the LPC. Tell us something we didn't already know. Nonsense. These attack adds are going over like a lead balloon, regardless of what the G&M prints or any other Media. The strategy is too little too late, and with the public more focused on what the current government is doing, it appears to the public that the only thing this government is capable of doing is attacking. Its a bad strategy that is going to make no gains. I have been looking at the ads and they SUCK!!! The CPC had better find something better to do then throw mud, because if they keep this up, they will be throwing mud as an opposition party. Quote

Who have you been speaking with to know that they've had little impact? You're little posse of OCAP'ers don't count max. The Tories are the masters of PR so I'd watch what you say unless you want yourself quoted in a few months. Making you look rather silly. Truth is the Left is attacking these ads so violently because they are good and all factual. FACT : Ignotieff has been out of the country for 34 years FACT: Ignotieff came back to Canada to become leader of the Liberal Party and PM FACT: He claimed both the UK and the USA as his country, without mentioning Canada FACT: After failing to become PM he'll go back to Harvard. FACT: He is out of touch with everyday Canadians. FACT: He is another power mad academic looking to become PM for his own gain! FACT: This just isn't good enough for Canada, we deserve better. FACT: Stephan Harper is a leader who puts Canada first, not his ego. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog

Smallc Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 FACT: Ignotieff came back to Canada to become leader of the Liberal Party and PM He came back and taught at the UofT. He came back because he was asked to run for the HofC. Yes, he did quickly become leader, but it's not the only reason he came back. He returned to Canada every summer. Why would he do that if he didn't miss the country? FACT: He claimed both the UK and the USA as his country, without mentioning Canada He did say something similar to that, and i won't try to deny it. I will point out though that the Prime Minister has also said some things that should disqualify him from holding the office if you think that this disqualifies Ignatieff. FACT: After failing to become PM he'll go back to Harvard. This is a fact? FACT: He is out of touch with everyday Canadians. This is an opinion, not a fact. I would put to you that it is in fact you that is out of touch with every day Canadians. FACT: He is another power mad academic looking to become PM for his own gain! Another opinion...and another example of Conservatives attacking people who are educated and who educate others. FACT: This just isn't good enough for Canada, we deserve better. This is also an opinion. FACT: Stephan Harper is a leader who puts Canada first, not his ego. As is this. Quote
Mr.Canada Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Funny how you left out the FACT that he's been out of the country for 34 years never once returning, even for a visit. This paints a picture of someone who loves Canada to you? LOL. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
Smallc Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Did you not read where I mentioned that he returned every (or almost every) summer for the last decade? I don't see where the 34 comes from though...I count 27. Edited May 17, 2009 by Smallc Quote
Smallc Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 He hated this country so much, that he's been writing a book about his family and this country for the last 9 years. He hated it so much, that in the year 2000 he crossed the entire thing, from coast to coast....yes...convenient. Quote
Molly Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 If he hated it so much, he might even have established one or more of the other possible citizenships that would easily have been available to him, to hold even in tandem with his Canadian citizenship... but he didn't. Mr.Canada Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 You guys can say what you want. To the everyday Canadian who doesn't post on forums, it looks bad and that's all that matters. The TV told them it was bad so now it is. Doesn't really matter what you or I think about it here on MLW with what 100 regular posters in a country of 35 million. I don't see where the 34 comes from though...I count 27. Here's an excerpt from one of my previous posts about his "summers in Canada": "When I was driving a truck, John Turner was dancing with Princess Margaret," Brian Mulroney, the winner of that 1984 election, would tell delighted audiences. For Ignatieff, the problem has less to do with style (his seems appropriately post-modern) than with content. It's hard to keep up with a place that you visit only during summer holidays – which is why, with the exception of troubled states like Somalia, so few countries seek out expatriates to lead them. Today, Ignatieff talks of those annual holidays, particularly to an uncle's farm in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, as events that kept him linked to Canada. But in a 1993 essay, he marvelled at how removed from the actual reality of Canada and Quebec those summer visits were. [/b]"The myth I grew up believing was that Canada was a partnership between two peoples," he wrote in Blood and Belonging. "Yet I never actually met any Québécois when I was growing up. ...When I went to Quebec, I went to the English-speaking Eastern Townships, to a house where my Russian grandparents lived." If the ads are slanderous then I guess we can expect a law suit to be launched by Ignotieff against the CPC right? Mr.Canada Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 The ads attack his motives and character, or are you denying that? The ads are informing Canadians of the facts. Facts, that I think Ignatieff should have to answer Canada for. If he is to be PM Canadians have the right to know the answers to these questions from his own mouth, in his own words. waldo Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 ... the right to know the answers to these questions from his own mouth, in his own words. which questions? Don't bother recycling (most) of the same opinions that you classified earlier as "FACT"... the ones others clearly already refuted. So again - which questions... be precise - thanks. Quote
