Nice advice Slim
-
writing to reach you, if you've made it this far, congratulations. As you can see it is a very partisan board. I don't think this is the best place for objective information. My advise is to go to each of the party's websites and try to weed through the rhetoric and negativity. Read the platforms and avoid the attacks. The TV ads are going to get a little nasty, so keep that in mind. Best of luck in your decision. Don't be discouraged. Your vote is important.

Canadian Politicians at it again.....
newbie replied to America1's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I guess I worry about the innocents. In the U.S., for example, there were 802 accidental firearms deaths in 2001 (bound to be higher now). To me that's a good enough reason for concern and alarm. http://www-medlib.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUT...NS/GUNSTAT.html -

Plus, as I understand it, before he became PM he sold the company to his sons. -
Kimmy, When you paint a picture for us like that, you are at the very least, categorizing, and at the worst, racially profiling these fellows. You insinuate they dress and smell a certain way distinguishing them from everyone else. Unless you are stating that they are some part of a gang or group, then you are insinuating they are this way because of their religion or race. ???????????? It's that easy to do. Me though, I'm not racist. I hate everyone the same. Just kidding. My view is clearer. These guys as individuals must not be able to circumvent our societies laws based on their beliefs and customs. Just like I don't believe Pakkie RCMP officers should be able to wear turbans either, or indian police to wear their hair down their back. HOWEVER!!!!! If the radical Muslims keep impressing their lack of respect for our society and laws, and we in turn cannot deal with them using the restraints of our same laws, then it's time for another CRUSADE!! First we'll sweep Europe killing looting and maiming Muslims, push them back through Turkey and meet up with Georges guys in Iraq and finish them all off in the Middle East. It's really up to them how they want to behave. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This has got to be the most racist post yet on this forum. Are you deliberately plotting to get thrown off the board? Seems to me there is a rule on respect.

Canadian Politicians at it again.....

Have you ever heard of a security system? How about a doberman? There are other alternatives to having a loaded gun lying around. My brother-in-law in the States almost shot us one night when we came in late. And he knew we were coming! -

Please give examples of our "obsession" with guns/violence that is not found in Canada. Protecting oneself and ones family is a right in every country, guns allow you to protect yourself against violent attacks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To answer your question re examples, you must have passed over this earlier post by Flashman. Very accurate. "The American media that we see in Canada seems to be fascinated with gun violence. Whether it's TV shows, movies or video games, America seems to worship guns and gun culture. -

Do you deny that American cultural attitudes towards guns are unique in the industrialized world? No other industrialized country considers gun ownership a right. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From the NRA website: "...efforts include enacting laws that recognize the right of honest citizens to carry firearms for self-protection; preemption bills to prevent attacks on gun owner rights by local anti-gun politicians, and fighting for legislation to prevent the bankrupting of America’s firearms industry through reckless lawsuits." Kinda says it all. -
Harper talking policy, Martin talking his values?
newbie replied to willy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Posted Nov. 2, 2005: "Thank God for opinions! My take on all this mess is much in line with FTA lawyer. I thought that Martin could have gone a little further than he did in parliament yesterday re apologizing on behalf of the party. He was, as just about eveyone has pointed out, the Finance Minister at the time. If he didn't know what was going on, he should have..." -

I was against the way Martin handled the sponsorship "apology" and said so on this board. But I don't know what your point is. It should be painfully obvious that I am Liberal and make no apology for that. My posts speak for themselves. I posted off the Conservative site to make a point. -

Speaking of accountability: Conservative leader Stephen Harper claims he now wants to improve accountability in government but his public record reveals this is nothing more than political double-speak: * Stephen Harper opposed amendments to strengthen the Lobbyist Registry (Bill C-15, Lobbyists Registration Amendment Act). * He voted against the Ethics Bill which created an independent Ethics Commissioner (Bill C-4, Parliament of Canada Amendment Act [Ethics Commissioner and Senate Ethics Officer]). * He opposed the political financing bill that put tight limits on corporate and union donations and strengthened donation disclosure rules (Bill C-24, Canada Elections Amendment Act [Political Financing]). * He has opposed all efforts to put limits on the influence of third-party advertising during election campaigns, even fighting the issue at the Supreme Court as president of the National Citizens Coalition. Mr. Harper said he will repeal these rules if he becomes Prime Minister. * Mr. Harper has opposed a recent government initiative to require third party groups that advertise during elections to reveal the identity of their donors. * He has repeatedly refused to reveal who bank-rolled his 2002 campaign to become leader of the Canadian Alliance. * He has refused to reveal exactly how much was paid to Ezra Levant in 2002 to get him to step aside from the Calgary Southwest nomination so he could run in a by-election. * Mr. Harper has refused to make his deputy leader, Peter Mackay, reveal the identity of the single donor who paid off his $500,000 leadership debt. * Mr. Harper appointed as a Defence Critic Gordon O’Connor, a man who has acted as a lobbyist for the defence industry for seven years. * Today Mr. Harper pointed to the record of Brian Mulroney and suggested he will use Mr. Mulroney as his standard of ethics. Mr. Harper’s spotty record on ethics contrasts with the reforms Prime Minister Paul Martin has brought in over the last 18 months. http://liberal.ca/news_e.aspx?id=11298 -
Does that mean you loved John Turner, Kim Campbell and Joe Clark?

From Jack Layton: “So voting Liberal isn’t being smart. It’s being played, played by a broken Liberal party, by a leader who doesn’t know what he believes - The Toronto Star. Poor Layton. He must really be scared by comments like that. Kind of reminds me of one I read just recently on this forum. I guess desperation calls for belittling of a person's right to choose. .

Where was your support when canuckcat went after me for quoting Warren Kinsella? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shoop, this is a political forum. But there are supposed to be rules. Canuckcat attacked you personally - not allowed supposedly. Take it up with Greg. I was responding specifically to rbacon's post. It's that same "tarring all Liberals" crap all over again. Shouldn't have got my dander up, but I think that's understandable since it mostly from the right side of the fence and totally unnecessary.

I would never take delight with any capital punishment. It is nothing but state sanctioned murder. I am reminded of the persons on death row in the States who were murdered unneccesarily and the 100 incarerated who were wrongly convicted and have been freed since 1973. http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=12923 But something maybe we can agree on is a life sentence (meaning a life time behind bars) for murder. It is cheaper, a deterent, and is more punitive. And I admit it is a judge and sentencing issue here.

So if we vote liberal we are stupid and void of morals. Can't get much lower than that. But of course I consider the source.

Oh, it's that darn left media again.

You can have any opinion you like crazy, but to express in such a tasteless and vile poem goes along the with meanspiried posts you have shown in the past. This isn't debate. It is spite and vengence. Ignore is invoked.
-
Well I've yet to read of a statement from an American on this website pointing out the obvious problems in the U.S., honest meaing reality, not a Fox News fed bias. And yeah, it's my opinion.

It works both ways fellow. But to imply anyone who wishes to employ his democratic right as someone is somewhat who lacks intelligent is a huge insult, and a very common practice of Converstative posters on this forum. Disagreeing is one thing, but lay off the "tarring all lefites" crap. Theses are opinions on this website and let's keep it that way. No one's is better than anyone else's. Can we not leave it there?

crazymf, that was extremely bad taste.
