  1. Actually there are a few. Ever hear of papyrus rolls? Some of Aristotles manuscripts are in the British Museum. My point was where are the originals of even the New Testament. Aristotle's era was 384-332 BCE. I beg to differ.......there are no "originals" surviving. Hate to go back and forth but please read this: Aristotle's manuscripts survived despite their bad condition. Two-hundred and fifty years after they were written, the manuscripts were taken by Sulla to Rome to be edited by Andronicus of Rhodes (Lewis 1974, p. 60).link Seems to me Gilgamesh on the original clay tablets in Sumerian texts cuneiform writing are in existence.
  2. I'm not a parent, but I'd be a little pissed. Being said, what actually happened isn't what you stated. This HAS happened in the past Geoffrey. Bishops have withheld evidence of Priest sexual abuse and participated in coverups. As far as the other issue, the name of a child cannot be revealed if they are minors. What some of you don't realize is the courage it takes for someone to come forward to reveal this crime. Most don't and are screwed up the rest of their lives because of it.

  4. Can you provide even one example? The press have uncovered many, to the point Watergate, Iran-Contra......
  5. The trouble is that the Bible has changed tremendously thru the ages due to the politics at the time. There isn't even a single original manuscript. Plus we learn what our parents and teachers teach us. There are tons of books that survived that are a lot older than the Bible (ancient Greek classics, Gilgamesh, to name a few). And why is it there are so many different Christian faiths, even with a different slant on "his" words? To me this is a bunch of tales handed down with virtually no proof to back them up. Other than religious documents, where is the proof that Jesus even existed?
  6. Mulroney signed the Multiculturalism Act. Take it up with him.
  7. It was a crime scene first, then a disaster.
  8. I cited some links but obviously you only read what you want to, if you even read them at all. Here are some clips for you: And so it was there, among other locations, that terrorists struck killing some 37 people and injuring dozens more Thursday. The perpetrators claimed to be propelled by an Islamic ideology, believing that somehow, killing underground commuters in London will accomplish something for their cause. Presumably the killings were justified in their twisted minds because those people somehow constitute the enemy. Beyond the sheer barbarity of the attacks there is an irony that will likely be lost from macnet.ca “As Canadian Muslims we unequivocally condemn terrorism in all of its forms. Canada is our home and we are deeply concerned about the safety of our country,” says Karl Nickner, CAIR-CAN’s Executive Director. Saturday, 29 July 2006 ImageThe Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a grassroots organization of American Muslims, strongly condemns the attack on the Jewish Center in Seattle. ICNA offers condolences to the families of those killed or injured in this attack. In a statement, Naeem Baig, Secretary General of ICNA said, "These violent acts by those who claim to represent Islam, are against the teachings of Islam and the practices of the prophet Mohammad". We ask the authorities to step up security measures of religious institutions such as synagogues, mosques and churches. ICNA also urges people of all faith and cultures to show patience and restraint in such time difficult times. # ISNA urges all Muslims in the U.S. and Canada to exercise the utmost self-control and to never let their understandable anger lead to any un-Islamic and irresponsible act towards their fellow citizens. In fact, they should continue their ongoing dialogue with their Christian and Jewish friends, many of whom have condemned Israel’s terrorism perpetrated under the guise of “self defense”. # ISNA condemns any act of deliberate or reckless targeting of innocent non-combatants by any party to the conflict.
  9. If that's true Betsy, show me on these muslim sites where that is indicated.: http://www.macnet.ca/national/index.php http://www.cmcla.org http://www.icna.org http://isna.com Please do us all a favor and stop the generalization. Yes, there are radicals muslims that believe some crazy things, just as there are crazy and zealous Christians, Jews, and other religion fundamentalists. Your irrational conclusion does more harm than good.
  10. So I take it you would be against: - promoting energy conservation, - the conservation of wildlife, habitats, and natural ecosystems, - repleting fish stocks, - cleaning up contaminated water, and - clear-cutting old growth forests. Greens a threat to the world? No, just to people like you who are willing to burden your progeny with our mess.
  11. I'm frankly surprised Harper didn't send his henchman, Jason Kenney, out to make these comments. Harpie just looks inexperienced painting all the candidate with the same brush.
  12. Care to dispute these poll numbers Jerry? link
  13. Allow priests to marry and utilize and ordain women as priests as well. That might help a little bit.
  14. Typical reaction of the cons to blow this out of proportion. Iggy aplogized by the way for his comments re Qana and this is his response after Kadis withdrew her support: "I believe that war crimes were committed in the war in Lebanon, I don't think there's any question about it, and war crimes were visited on Israeli civilians and they were visited on Lebanese civilians," he said. "We've got to be determined as Canadians to do whatever we can to make sure that military solutions are not sought in this conflict because the consequences are just more civilian death." link
  15. Let's just say I know a lot about the inner workings of the church, but am not at liberty to say much under threat of lawsuit. I can say that to compare the amount of deviant priests, bishops and cardinals to other professions is laughable. Unfortuntately, they all cover for each other.
  16. How about we wait until we see if it was a "nuclear" test or not? This is probably KJ just pissing in the wind.
  17. There is a difference between consensual sex and using one's authority to coerce and in effect rape another. I'll never be okay with paedophilia, and there definitely has to be some lines drawn in the sand. Teen sex is one thing, but sexual abuse is another. Having said that, this is also a problem in the workplace and needs addressing as well.
  18. Some of these folks, if they didn't have problems before, developed them in the church as it breeds this behaviour by its abnormal relationships. Priests live together, and were involved in many young people's sporting activities. They got to know the dysfunctional familes through invited suppers, confessional, and through personal counselling. You have to remember they were once treated as God's messengers who could do no wrong. Young kids were sexually abused, threatened and/or told to keep things secret. When parents found out they either denied it or blamed the child for lying. But when caught red-handed, the bishop just moved the priests around the diocese. This happened time after time. Now there is screening process, but there is still a great shortage, offering more immigrant priests an out from their impoverished countries.
  19. Seems to me it has something to do with the fact that when a priest dies, much of his estate reverts back to the church. And other faiths have married ministers. It's a joke Betsy, and an old man's club as far as I'm concerned. Bringing the church into the 21st century would mean getting rid of celibacy, married priests, flushing out all the perverts and paedophiles, and offering a mass that young people can relate to. Alas, that won't happen in my lifetime.
  20. While negotiating the terms of 'settlement' with Arar and his legal team it would be self-defeating for the Canadian government to issue an apology. No lawyer/lawyers acting for the government would accept Arar's statement that he would not use a government apology, if offered today, to effect a more substantial monetary payment. Would you? Arar is suing the government for hundreds of millions of dollars. How many millions he will be offered, along with the 'apology' from the government, and how many millions Arar will accept, is the question. I think an apology ranks second on Arar's Agenda. It may rank second but it's deserving. A pay out doesn't automatically preclude a published admission of guilt in my books.
  21. No, the priest is a homosexual paedophile. Paedophiles indeed seek sexual relationships with children, pre-adolescent children. Lusting after 15 year olds does not make you a paedophile. Paedophiles are not interested in 15 year olds. They used to. I don't believe anyone does now. All the Pope's letter said was that investigations could be kept confidential. Could. It did not say "will in all cases". Furthermore, it said nothing about what would be done after the investigation has run its course and a decision on likely guilt or innoence rendered. If word gets out that a priest is being investigated for child abuse that priest is finished in his community, regardless of the outcome of the investigation. I can see the logic in keeping such investigations as secret as possible while they are being conducted. A couple of things here. Don't just think paedophile Priests are strictly homosexual. There are plenty of young girls that have been abused as well. You mention a Priest is finished in his community if he is investigated. But where does he go Argus? Most likely to another community to abuse again. Don't kid yourself about Bishops protecting their own. I have absolutely no doubt that we are only hearing the criminal cases in the press, and not the huge amount of cases unheard because of meagre settlements. Since these are all private no one can calculate the enorminty of this injustice. Have the Canadian bishops apologized by the way?
  22. Graham already apologied to Arar on behalf of the Liberals. Where's Harper's?
  23. Imagine one or two of them in a police lineup. "Yeah officer, number 4. I can tell by her eyes she's the murderer." I would certainly draw the line with driver's licenses and any pic for security. I remember when we had a lot of Shieks over here and came to work in the coal mine. They had to take off their turbans and put on a hard hat, and they did so with no problem.
