What Black Dog meant by the sexual thing and guns is that it is a fever. Alot of gun owners are fanatical about their collection and treat them as well as their umm. you know. -
Pat Robertson Calls For Chavez To Die

Too bad Bush is pretty good at not falling on his face when out on his bike. I would love to see something unfortunate to happen to Bush as well. -

Iraq and the Bush Administration
GostHacked replied to Ironside's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Who are we to second guess that leader? Everyone who is a citizen of that country. Remember your president works for YOU not the other way around. The American population is the boss, not the President. So please don't blindly put your faith in the president. If you have faith in him, at least have some good solid reasons that you believe in. Black Dog. Um that book ships in 1 to 3 months. I guess you have to have patience when trying to be positive. -
US Daylight Savings and the new Energy Bill.
GostHacked replied to GostHacked's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Kimmy. That analogy may work when every single one of us is 9-5. And by reducing it in the evening will mean a rise of consumption in the morning. And to say that most people in the mornings are on trains/buses cars ect is the same group of people using the trains/buses ect in the evening. Most 9-5ers spend 2 hours (or more) a day in commute on public/private transportation. Now with that in mind, getting off at 5 and home by 6. Even with daylight savings, you will still be comming home in the dark. I don't see this as a valid solution. -
I just don't understand this at all. http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/200...ight050808.html This new bill (which looks like it is LAW now) will really be a pain in the ass to Canadians and other countries affected by this move. Are you kidding me? This will not affect that at all. The evenings will still be a set amount of hours weather you push it back or forward an hour. Retarded. And this is all to help out those energy firms http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/08/08/bush.ap/index.html And with this bill comes new tax cuts and gives energy firms less restrictions. Mainly in how they look for new resources. For one, when drilling for new oil/gas ect, the companies are no longer required to have a clean area on site. This can devestate the local environment. This can greatly affect the ANWR reserve in Alaska. So they don't need to clean up or have a clean working area when exploring for resources. Bad bad bad. There was an article on this but I cannot seem to locate it now. What chaos this will cause. It is not a big OMG in your face type thing, but alot of little things that wil be affected and causing issues. So what can be done to stop this insanity? Look like nothing now. Other items of interest that are affected by this. International air travel Electronic devices that use standard daylight savings. Cross border communications and business transactions. What do you people think of all this?

BHS In order to start a thread, you should really read the article before discussing this more. I have not read it, so untill I do, I cannot really say about this topic, or what goes on in the Pentagon. And I wish I could read it at work here, PDFs sometimes crash these 'great' work computers.

Theory is NOT fact. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=theory Evolution is a theory. God is a theory. Evolution is a theory with alot more evidence to back the theory up. God is still just a theory that in no way can be scientificly tested. Evolution took years and years. So in our short lifespan on this planet we are able to only view things that happen over our life span. Evolution takes centuries. However, with scientific methods that are in place, we are able to 'watch' the progress of evolution over a long time. Scientific methods include, observation, making and taking measurements of any kind. The theory is adjusted after time when evidence proves or disproves it. Religion has not changed over the past few centuries. It has remained static. This does in no way prove it is a theory or fact. There is no solid evidence of God. No proof, nothing tangeble. Well if you consider a story book that has changed over the years, the Bible might be considered a theory. But overall it is just a story, for there is no solid respected scientific evidence to back any of it up. Evolution has grown out of theories and evidence that back up each other in a scientific matter. Theories are taught in school all the time. But those are theories that have been 'proven' to a point that it becomes 'fact'. Teaching Inteligent Design without some science behind it becomes hocus pocus. Smoke and mirrors, slight of hand. Prayers should still kept out of the schools. Pray at home, or hell, even pray in class by yourself (no biggie to me).

Shady, if they are supporting terrorism then they are a threat and dangerous. Iraq was an ally (of some sorts) to the US during the 80s. So personaly I don't by that 'they are an ally of the US or the west'. Seriously, other than an 'ally' what do they have as collateral that prevents the US from doing a regime change there? Other countries are exporting terrorism as much as (I am guessing) that Saudi Arabia has. By religous means no doubt.
-
I did not mention religious beliefs, so let's leave that factor out of this for now. I am not sure. It may all come from religious centers, but that is no reason NOT to invade if they support terrorists through those means. If the religion spreads hate, I would not consider it a religion anymore. I am focusing on money and the support of terrorist groups outside Saudi Arabia. Are there ties to that nature? Any evidence to support my claim? Well you may not invade for religious reasons, but if money is flowing out for terrorist activities (Saddam was linked in just the same way to Al Queada) You sure should be able to take them out. Why all this pussyfooting around with Saudi Arabia if this IS the case? What do they have as collateral that prevents the US from invading?
-
IF most (or all) of the Islamist terrorist fundamentalists are comming from Saudi Arabi, or if the money is comming from Saudi Arabia to fund terror cells around the world. Why have they not been invaded up to this point? If the invasion of Iraq did not contribute to the rising numbers of terrorist activities around the world, then what is causing it? I have seen that tossed around here several times. Saudi Arabia is the main reason all this crap is going on? Am I understanding this correctly? IF Saudi Arabia is causing and funding the terrorists... I ask Why was Afghanistan invaded? Why was Iraq invaded? Why not get to the root of the problem and take Saudi Arabia out?

Bush names Bolton as U.N. ambassador
GostHacked replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Since he cannot be approved through normal proceedings and normal channels, Bush installed Bolton through a loophole that allowed this. And this is only temporary, he still can be pulled from the postition when Senate gets back in the house. -
A bump? Woah, thought I was over at the Shack for a moment. The problem with letting vetran posters moderate the forums can lead to exactly what you are concerned about. It can get biased and some views could be nixed for that alone. A facilitator of some sort will work, but again sometimes a facilitator can get biased and maybe just not report anything. Tough call bro.

I thought they were still looking for that lost city. I totaly forgot about Atlantis. So they can fix either one up. Send up a repair crew then bring both shuttles back down. Or screw it, leave it there. Refit it and send it off to Mars !!!
-
Well, I think they penciled in a contigency plan this time. They could park that POS over at the ISS and Soyuz it back to earth. You figure with all that money spent on those vehicles they would want to have a back up plan to protect your investments. Only one left after this one is the ENTERPRISE !!!! This should have went up first. It is the least used of the fleet and would need some major renovations for space travel. But at least (I hope) that shuttle is in better shape.

Black Dog does give some insight for the coughgascough. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1984459.stm http://www.unocal.com/uclnews/97news/102797a.htm Let's not forget Karzai used to be a consultant for Unocal. Interesting. http://www.truthout.org/docs_02/12.30A.afgh.pipe.htm Whoa, hold on. Now I see what the big fuss is about for China wanting to buy into Unocal. Now I also see why the US does not want them to have any part of it.

Every message board has their share of idiots. Some other tech webforums I go to have the same goups of people. You get cool people, you get informative people, and you get assholes as well. NO and I repeat -=NO=- forum online is immune to them unfortunatly. Just learn to ignore and don't respond to their posts. You only fan the fire more.

Well, it seems to be getting worse there in Iraq. Insurgents have infiltrated the ranks of the Iraqi Security Forces. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4716531.stm I guess the security is not as tight as it should be. So you still think that the war is being won? Now the enemy is among their ranks. How can you kill an enemy when it looks like the person you are to training COULD be the enemy? Hard to tell the difference. Hard to do your job. Security is TOTALY compromised when this is happening. Now who is to blame for this? The US? The Iraqis? Who? The US will always be one step behind the insurgents. Afghanistan is heating up again too. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor..._263/?hub=World http://www.guardian.co.uk/afghanistan/stor...1536767,00.html http://www.eitb24.com/noticia_en.php?id=78262 And those Navy Seals that got ambushed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4712885.stm The focus should have been on Afghanistan and stayed there. When the focus was switched to Iraq, this allowed for many things. First off, they were after Osama Bin Laden. Even still today they cannot find him! This allowed for the festering of the remaining Taleban leaders and bought them time to organize a new movement. So once Iraq is dealt with (or rather IF it is dealt with), Afghanistan will have to be liberated again.

Looks like you are wrong about the immams, unless this is a clever ruse to fool us all. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...National/Canada

Yes it has happened. I am reading up on that now .. Just wow. More will come out as we get it.

The Isreal Point and how it is similar to the attempt for security of the US. Security in Isreal is pretty tight. You have to be scanned by metal detectors and the like in order to get into PUBLIC places, like malls, city hall, ect. Now we can all look at why Isreal is as big as they are. After WWII, Jewish people were given a small part of the land in Palestine. Isreal used to be a small new country. Now Isreal has taken over the land (regardless of the reasons) and have disposed the Palestinians to small localized control areas. How DID Isreal get so big? And what are the reasons? Taking away the land from the Palestinians did contribute to their being a target for suicide bombers. it goes back and forth, for years. Isreal grabs more land, pisses off more Palestinians, contibuting to more attacks by the Palestinians, which Isreal retaliates by throwing missles into the Gaza Strip, plowing down houses which disposes more Palestinians. This again, turns around to more suicide bombers. Then the Isreali reaction to all this is to build a big wall around them. To prevent the suicide bombers from attacking. So by taking over someone elses land (ok you can argue the Jews have historical rights ect...regardless) someone will retaliate. The cycle continues..... All this security the Isrealis have will not prevent the attacks. The more security they have the less free they are. The Palestinians are definatley not a free people. They are checkpointed at every turn when they enter and exit Isreali controlled areas. Let's take this into consideration when we look at the US and their war on terrorism. Patriot Act, Homeland Security, MDS, tighter border control, detaining many people without reason indefinately, ect. I can see the Isreali situation on a larger scale with the US. Now onto Iraq : It has been stated here that Freedom cannot be borne out of Tyranny. I say that is wrong. After the USSR break up, Georgia and other break away states are trying really hard to be democratic. This is a drastic change for these people used to a tyrannic style government. It can be done. Freedom has to come from within. The people will WANT to have it that bad and will risk anything for it. Now I would love all people to be free, but sometimes you have to let things take their course and democracy will some out if they want it that bad. Not to say that the Iraqis did not want freedom and democracy, but if they are not willing to stand up and fight for themselves against a Dicktator they no longer want, there is nothing we can do to help them out in this case. Hence the reason I am thinking (but not hoping) that this will all fail in the end. Iraq is a very messed up place. I know I have more to say, but that will come later.

PATRIOT ACT RENEWED http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/07/21/pat....act/index.html With the two recent bombing events in London this past month, looks like that only helped Bush get the Patriot Act renewed. If those bombings did not take place, I guess it would have passed either way, but not by a large margin. [i"]The final vote was 257-171. The bill makes permanent 14 of 16 provisions in the act set to expire next year and extends two others for another 10 years."[/i] Now those provisions are PERMANENT. Meaning it is the law of the land. Orwellion Police State here we come!! NOW DO YOU FEEL SAFER??

Canada needs to rebuild its railway system
GostHacked replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I propose a major overhaul of a east west train/road/communications pipeline. The existing railroad from the East to the West coast does need some work so hows about this to accomplish alot of this at the same time. THE GRAND PIPE (dream) LINE !! Along with the addition of a few parrallel train tracks moving east to west, you can have a major road/hiway doing the same thing right along side of the tracks. Major centers can have terminals to load and offload cargo (trucks ect). Along the whole line you can have major communication networks like fiber op, cell towers and the like running the whole lenght. Now you will have to branch off somehow to acommodate some cities that are out of the way, but overall can be done. Now this should blow your noodles. Since there is enough trains and enough tracks going east west, how about a train system that can carry cars from one side to the other (we already do) I am in Halifax. I want to go to Vancouver, but I don't want to fly, and I don't want to drive my car there, but when I am there I want to drive MY car! Drive the car onto the train, hop on the passenger cars and ride the train all the way. Less strain on your car and wallet at the same time. The cost of carrying the car and your butt to the other end of the country will be less than driving /motels/gas/meals. Prolly less than flying as well. Reach Vancouver, get your car and drive off the train into the cool city of Vancouver. It is quite the endeavour but what a dream system. -
Personally I thought they were next right after they invaded Iraq. Geographicaly it would be easy. The US has control of Afghanistan, Iraq, and most of the Persian Gulf. Militarily it will very tough. Iran has a miliraty that will put up a good fight. Politicaly it would be a very bad idea. Not to sure if it will be a joint operation with Isreal/US but it is a possibility.
